One of the most groovy riffs of Metallica
yes
Funny thing is it was bob rock that believed in that riff. James was clueless when bob directed him😂
Especially the verse riff!
If only they cut out the “yeah” part and had some lead guitar, then it’d be a very good mid-tempo banger.
@@Adam-fl9uc Bob Rock was a brilliant for Metallica. It's him who made them next level. The first album after he's gone, sounded as shitty as it gets

Mr_Venbeer What's your first?
BubbaZen10 I can't chose between Master of Puppets or And Justice for All, but I currently listen to justice the most :)
To be honest, I am glad they released St. Anger. After Cliff's death the entire band started to slowly descend into existential crisis. That along with James running away from his personal issues and the mistreatment of Jason were gradually creating tensions within Metallica for years. It was only a question of time when they were going to be forced to face themselves and learn to deal with their problems like adults. The entire music industry landscape was rapidly changing in early 2000's, and that's when their crisis finally peaked. You can clearly hear it on the record. They needed to get that album out of their system in order to move on, and that's why I respect it. It's just pure fucking emotion.
I heard that they called it a pallet cleanser which is the best way the album could be described
Amen to that!!
Totally agree!! And then we get Death Magnetic and Hardwired which are both killer old school albums. I will admit Anger grew on me much later. Got some great tracks. And I love they’re now playing Frantic, Window and St Anger off it live regularly now

“Disappointing.”
I love the hardcore sound of the St. Anger album, including the drum sound, and the absence of solos was a cool touch, just lets the intensity of riffs breathe. I like the fact that Metallica breaks their own formula with every album, every Metallica album is distinct.
I agree that they broke their own formula with every album - if we exclude the last two.
This video version of the song is a lot cleaner than the album version that sounds like someone recorded it through a gutter drain with a walkman
It is stoner metal/grunge which is pretty rare in the mainstream. Bands like scissorfight excelled in that style
Ride and Puppets had the same formula. As did the Loads (of course they were written to be a double album).
Honestly I think this entire album is incredible. It has some of Metallica heaviest riffs.
I bet if St. Anger was released by a different band people would like it more.
If motley crue made this album.
Yeah. Metallica standard is too high
I happen to like St. Anger, thank you 🤘🏻
But who else would release it? Not Slipknot, nowhere near heavy enough, even being the heaviest and craziest metallica's ever been. Not Korn, it doesn't sound alien enough. Not system of a down, again, doesn't line up right. Have you got an idea of who else would release it? Especially concerning all the "The band is falling apart" concept of the album.
I bet your an idiot

Absolutely the heaviest and craziest song. Only special people can appreciate the song. St. Anger is the most eccentric, yet the most heavy and special piece.

WarmnessOnTheSoul stfu you actual flannel!! how many songs have you posted this on and how many times have you heard Metallica say fam ?
They should try a remix/remaster with this album. I bet people would appreciate it for what it is. A great album.
Ive thought that as well. If they pulled that snare back just a hair, it would make such an incredible difference. St Anger is a GReat album but has the sound of a new band and first album, under produced. I think people were not willing to except the rawness of production in this album but if it were from a different band would not receive so much flak. INstead, because it is Metallica, everyone expects top shelf over production. Im glad they released it the way it is. While "Some Kind of Monster" documentary was released as well. The two things tell the story. Without one of those pieces, the listener is not hearing things in their entirety>
THIS IS ACTUALLY ONE OF THE FIRST SONGS I KNEW FROM METALLICA :D also one of the first songs I played on bass! St. Anger is not that bad ;)
After 40 years there still got it and killing it ,as a part of the Metallica family 🤘
the reason i love this album, is not because it sounds cool, which jesus, believe i think it's badass, but it's also so....real. like they wrote what they felt. it just had to be told with a different tone. and if you haven't seen the documentary yet, i strongly suggest you watch it before judging this album.
the reason this album has gotton so much flack is because 1. its not normally metallicas style to play this trash metal. and 2 ulrik turned off his snare on his drum which ruined the whole album.
jtj
i think this album is hated a lot is that they went on nu-metal because it was the thing that was popular in those years, but they completely forgot their own style. I mean they could have done nu-metal, but still whille staying metallica. They could have done nu-metallica if you know what i mean xd
Raw real hard dont like it then fuck out punk bich haters
Honestly, St. Anger is my favorite Metallica album. That's coming from someone who used to hate it for years, but about 2009 I picked it up again and it's been my top Metallica album ever since.
That being said, the video edit of this song is definitely better than the one that's on the album IMO.
Likewise! Was always Ride the Lightning and Black Album when I was growing up. The riff in this is simply jizzworthy, there's no other word for it. Death Magnetic though...meh :/

One phrase to describe their career: SOME KIND OF MONSTER! And this monster lives...on and on...hell yeah!!!

I really think history will be kind to this album. It's much better than people think. For its rawness i love it. Not to say its my favorite. It's just a good solid album
James Hetfield would be in Nashville playing country music, I’d be off producing films and Kirk Hammett would be on tour with Joe Satriani - direct words of lars Ulrich
This album was when the band was rebuilding. So if this didn't happen death magnetic wouldn't have happened either. So keep that in mind if your going to post hate comments
I've been a fan of Metallica since I ever remember. I also agree that this album isn't their best by far, but is it wrong that I still enjoy it for what it is? I actually remember this song and that it kicked ass and I came here specifically to listen to it. I will take a bet that if this album was released by some other random band it would have become much more popular. People just bash it because they are too biased with older Metallica work. Take a minute and think about it though, this is what makes Metallica what they are: they experiment with different styles. If they were to stay the same there would be no Kill 'em all and no metal as we know it today.
Right. Let me try to decode this. We're supposed to keep in mind exactly where the band members would be, and what they'd be doing, if they hadn't made the album...that they DID make. And these entirely speculative acts and locales somehow have a bearing on the matter of whether people should think the produced product sucks. Put another way, you are demanding that we base the validity of our opinions on the music that WAS made upon unrelated and wholly hypothetical events and activities that not only did not take place but now *can never* take place. That makes no logical sense whatsoever.
but, Death Magnetic was shit
*you’re
Kirk ain't good enough for that haha
Am I the only one who likes all the metallica songs even with mixed genres?
the band needed this album to regroup and start over
I really liked what they did with the drums on this song.
really?
Not sure if sarcastic...
zombiemartin1
ofc he is being sarcastic. ulrik has to be one of the most stupidest drummers. i mean who would ever turn off the snares on his snare drum??? it gives the snare drum such a metallic sound which sounds horrible. ask any drummer if he ever does this.. never have i heard of a decent drummer who have done that. well any drummer with respect for themselves..
I was talking about how the drums don't sound like a pan on this song, not like on the album. And yes, Ulrich is not a good drummer, nor a bad one.
Bboy(with a banana)
yeah i agree, i like this song aswell. it seems as if the drums are more in the background somehow so you dont really hear that pan sound. that and the badass riff makes this pretty awesome.
Some people just talk the talk and say how bad st.anger is.. I personally love it. Ppl should be a little more open and realize the true meaning for the songs and what they all went thru to make it.
