I wouldn't wonder, given how the original working title for this song was NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) - Probably before Master Poet Warlord Hetfield gave it complete lyrics... There's definitely a writer's nod to Bruce and crew in there somewhere.

Probably because it's about Atlas, the titan who was condemned to hold the skies for eternity. He just so happens to also appear in God Of War! (The second one)
I like that that have found a way to renew, but still find the "old" sound that we all came to love :) When that being said, ive been with them all the way, and even though some of what they made was better then other ive allways found every album good in their own way
I hate one thing about comments on Metallica. Yes, Lars needs upgrading, yes,Kirk seems to play the same solo over and over again. But let's not forget a few thing: They're all over 50 years old, they created thrash metal, they still play (old school) thrash metal, they've been playing metal for more than 30 years now, and without them, a lotta bands would not be here (among them Testament, Slayer, Overkill, ...), so we'd better show more respect to this greaaaaat band who still gives us the opportunity to enjoy its music. They kicked asses, they're still kicking asses and they will kick asses! so long
Yes dude. The respect is a very important thing nowadays that the majority of people are missing. We need to respect and enjoy this possibility of listening some great music from metallica again.
So because they're old we should accept any ol shit as great? Tell that to guys like Ian Hunter and Buddy Guy who actually write and create great music well into their '70s.
I love that the "METLLICA" sheet music stand is still used by James after he commented on it in Some Kind of Monster! I first heard this song live in concert in Nashville Jan 2019 and I've loved it since.
As a 43 year old and having listened to these guys from when i was about 15 , can i just say that Metallica are without a doubt, my all time favorite metal/rock band. Others come and go but these guys continue to put legendary concerts and songs together. Stay Awesome guys and may i continue to enjoy your music as the years go on.
Sadly the quality of their work suffered a major decline after the the amazing triffecta ( Master of puppets; justice for all; black album). Since then only death magnetic is worth of considering. Sure there are a couple of musics from load and reload, but not enough to say that those were good(ish) albums, ok at best. Hardwired to self destruct is just MEH, ok at best. This is were bands like Iron maiden and Megadeth really shine, consistency. All bands have a bad album but in general the quality is always high.
@@abiseniyya I'll be 43 on February 1. You gotta love those guys. I grow up with them, and every album they'v made just was the right for me at the time. They can't make same music for 40 years. That would be stupid. Just dont understand how some jerks dont get it. If I made some mistakes, sorry, I'm Croatian. English is not my native language.
Make your question clearer if that's what you meant.... As for comparing to "the first five albums," why does it always have to be? All of you people who hold a new Metallica song up to what you consider their best prevents you from hearing it as it is. They're still killing it and bringin' some epic, heavy metal, and that's enough for me.
I love seeing everyone's differing opinions. This one feels a bit more disjointed, more similar to the Death Magnetic stuff - which is why I enjoyed Moth like I did. I'd still put this slightly over anything on DM, though.
Up until now I've only ever heard this song as a cover song by The Warning.. Now i'm amazed at how well they did it as a 3 piece band. I think the only thing missing is the guitar harmonies.
Same. I thought it was boring as hell on the first listen, but now I really like it. I've found myself humming it more often than I'd care to admit. 😂😂😂
That's exactly what happened with me. When I heard it about 2 weeks ago, I thought, "Eh, it's alright. It sounds like Death Magnetic. This is more of what I expected from them. It's not as good as Moth Into Flame." Now, I just can't get it out of my head. The pre-chorus and chorus fucking rule.

I was called a freak for carrying 'Ride The Lightning' under my arm through school back in 1986. I shed tears today hearing their new material. How wrong the idiots were in my year. This is the best music Metallica has written since 'Justice'. I'm so proud of all four of you; James. Rob, Lars and Kirk. You vindicated me and I owe you my life for making me carry on.
The album has leaked and I must saythey were extremely smart with the songs they chose to release to the public... the 3 that they've put out so far and the last song on the 2nd disc "Spit Out the Bone" are the only "metal" songs on the album... the rest are "bluesy-rock" (essentially Load). The album as a whole feels like some sort of In-Justice, Black Album, Load hybrid. Some fans might love it, but I was a bit thrown off by how many rock songs there were on it... especially with what they've released so far, : /. I was expecting a fast thrashy album...
Especially because they bash on Metallica by imitation. They dont have factual or personal reasons to do it. Like George Carlin said... Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
Many other bands lose it and metallica is one of them. Did you heard anything before black album? Master of puppets, AJFA - that's their peak. After that they start to falling down deeper and deeper. Try Sodom or Exodus, they are REALLY saving their talant and playing better. The only thing metallica get better at is making money. Just commercial albums, again and again. Softer sound, simpler riffs...
First time I heard this song during November when it was released while I was in Japan, sitting on the balcony over Meguro river. Now, every time I listen to this song, it brings back these amazing memories. Love you from the bottom of my heart, Metallica \m/

James has SUCH a heavy mind. I'm glad his pen is just as heavy! It's no good to have such thoughts if they can't be brought to paper the way he does. One of the best writers, period. It was his lyrics that hooked me way back in '88.
@ Y. Lee -- Nah, doubt it's about a chick, specifically. Probably left ambiguous so many people could fit their own problems into it. But you should read a little about who Atlas is. Song may make a tad more sense to ya then.
You guys actually don't know who Atlas is? Well let me fill the greek mythology hole. During the war of the titans and the greek gods, a titan, named Atlas attempted to destroy Olympus, but he failed. Obviously. So after defeating all the titans, Zeus punished Atlas to hold up the skies for eternity. Thus: ''How does it feel on your own? Bound by the world all alone? Crushed under heavy Skies! Atlas, RISE!
Now some honest feedback: This song is quite the surprise! it has some Death magnetic flavor but the riff constantly reminds me of Hallowed be thy name (Iron Maiden), the song is pretty standard, nothing too extraordinaire, but it's something you can listen to without getting tired of it. Lyrically speaking, James is on top of his game again! :D imagine this song live, that's what this song is missing, the roaring metallica family on the background. Remember that every album is composed of "Bridge songs" like Tool, remember the 4TH Song of the lateralus album? That one called "Mantra" that leads up to the fantastic "Schism" track? What if this Metallica Song is just preparing us for the next track of the album, "Now that we're dead" we had the frantic "Hardwired to self destruct" before "Atlas Rise" you see the pattern? Start off heavy no boundaries!! then slow down a bit, then retaliate with a heavier shot! This track is just the warm up of something bigger, heavier and fucking epic.
James still has it in terms of coming up with a really solid and killer riff. However, this song is meh. If Metallica wanted to really shake things up, they should bring in a lead singer and let James do back up vocals and rhythm guitar. I don't think this song sucks are anything like that...Just feels like I heard many times before in other albums Metallica has done only not as fresh or good.
Cecil Drakan dude go back to your milk and go to bed... this song a warm up???? and your attemp to review this song is a HUGE failure just by not mentioning the solos ... the melodies on the harmonies are unreal.
I agree. St. Anger just didn't grab me. A few tracks on Death Magnetic are pretty good & I especially like Moth Into Flame from the forthcoming Album. Puppets, as an album, captured magic in a jar. The song itself is flawless. My Father thought he knew what a great guitarist was until we were on a long drive when and I popped in the song "Master Of Puppets". After the end of the elaborate bridge part where James goes back to sing the last verse, my Father goes "what...how? How do they have the energy to do that?" Puppets was fantastic. I believe Justice had some of the best guitar riffs I've ever heard, personally. I'm also a fan of the black album and I even like Load & Reload. Atlas, Rise seems to have an awkward main riff that I find odd. I like that they're going high & melodic for their choruses. I do sincerely wish Kirk would write his solos as opposed to "winging them". I've heard there's some health problems & that's expected. I want to hear Kirk play some slow, melodic solos.
In Greek mythology, Atlas was a Titan condemned to hold up the sky for eternity after the Titanomachy. Atlas was the son of the Titan Lapetus and the Oceanid Asia.He had many children, mostly daughters, the Hesperides, the Hyades, the Pleiades, and the nymph Calypso who lived on the island Ogygia. According to the ancient Greek poet Hesiod, Atlas stood at the ends of the earth towards the west.
Evolved for the worse generally. still capable of writing some good songs as with moth but too many average songs like this. I wouldn't call this evolution. That's what bands like machine head are doing now. Metallica are just going backwards trying to appease fans by trying to go back to their early sound. They use to the the band that set the benchmark for everyone else to follow. Now they're just an average band that has lost its sense of direction and are just playing it safe. At least with Load they were prepared to take risks. Might not have worked all the time, but it had some better tracks on it than this imo.
Or it could also be that there are just as many bands out there today with talent better than that of Metallica, sure they used to be the Benchmark, but now many other bands have passed them. Also, this album isn't out yet, so its still way to early to write this album off based off of 3 songs.
vG xFlames I tend to agree. Spit Out the Bone may be the only epic song on the new CD. But I think Atlas Rise and Hardwired are special in their own right.
Guys, this album is gonna be that epic Metallica album we've been hoping they still had in them for so long. I liked Death Magnetic, but this.... this is gonna be a beast of an album. Holy shit I'm stoked.
So far I've liked Death Magnetic better than what's been shown from this album, I don't get the hype honestly :\ Seems like these guys probably want to make "Hard rock" but are forcing more old school sound to please fans, and it sounds forced.
+Nicholas Pearce I'm sorry you like the same unevolved sounding music. What are ya? 50 now? This is pretty much just agenda driven cash in music at this point. I love old Metallica. This is getting sad though. Sorry:( Happy Thanksgiving.

More listens - more depth! And do not forget to close your eyes. Behind the scenes footage are quite distracting. So far we have three different and relatively diverse songs. Is going to be a good album. At the level of the first four? I do not know yet.
The lyrics are what I like most about this one... and the harmony part (that was so awesome I almost drooled). Wish more songs would just tell stories rather than pop culture commentary.

I wouldn't wonder, given how the original working title for this song was NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) - Probably before Master Poet Warlord Hetfield gave it complete lyrics... There's definitely a writer's nod to Bruce and crew in there somewhere.
Lyrical Genius James Hetfield
Die as you suffer in vain
Own all the grief and the pain
Die as you hold up the skies
Atlas, rise!
How does it feel on your own?
Bound by the world all alone
Crushed under heavy skies
Atlas, rise
Probably because it's about Atlas, the titan who was condemned to hold the skies for eternity. He just so happens to also appear in God Of War! (The second one)
and Chains of Olympus for PSP
Draky It's about Atlas in book called "Atlas shrugged" by Ayn Rand
Don't know about a book but Atlas is the titan from the Greek mythology. The story Hetfield describes is that exactly

I like that that have found a way to renew, but still find the "old" sound that we all came to love :)
When that being said, ive been with them all the way, and even though some of what they made was better then other ive allways found every album good in their own way
I hate one thing about comments on Metallica. They kicked asses, they're still kicking asses and they will kick asses! so long
Phil Bourgeois hell right🤘🏻
yeaaaah, but almost all of their peers aged waaaay better than Metallica
right

I'm 47 and been listening since '83!!

I think he might mean the Radio show Hard Drive. It come on a lot of rock stations at night on the weekend
Nothing compares to this band's energy and such amazing creativity
Better than I expected it to be.
What exactly happened after Load and Reload?
Jimmy Jones James went to rehab and the band almost (or did) break up. Watch "Some Kind of Monster" it shows a couple years after those albums.
James And that's why they can't compare now to their first five albums?
Make your question clearer if that's what you meant....
As for comparing to "the first five albums," why does it always have to be? All of you people who hold a new Metallica song up to what you consider their best prevents you from hearing it as it is. They're still killing it and bringin' some epic, heavy metal, and that's enough for me.
Seems like a grower. Don't care for the solo. I hope they stop releasing songs and just put the rest out on release day.
so big is the love I feel for these guys that dont know how I'm gonna get over their absence the day they leave this world...
It could happen that you die before them. I hope that helps.

Everything Metal I don't think so
Everything Metal Ehh, in my opinion this was way better but everyone is entitled to their own opinion
I love seeing everyone's differing opinions. This one feels a bit more disjointed, more similar to the Death Magnetic stuff - which is why I enjoyed Moth like I did. I'd still put this slightly over anything on DM, though.
Moth
Up until now I've only ever heard this song as a cover song by The Warning.. Now i'm amazed at how well they did it as a 3 piece band. I think the only thing missing is the guitar harmonies.
I also knew this song thanks to The Warning. But it's good to listen to the original version, both performances are great !!!!!

I'm not going to lie I've always thought he was saying bitterness in Berlin
3:24 bro in the back was vibing
I love the little head bang Robert gives as he walks in at around 3:24!
A few things that have made this new Metallica album good.
1. Good old thrash sound
2. Lars turned on the snare
3. Kirk solo
4. YeAH!
yezster This one is my favorite out of everything they have released so far.
Kirk's solo? nah... I've heard better from him
screamo14 I was making a joke back to the St. Anger album which had no solo's
Brandon2940 in my opinion, saint anger had way too much snare
Just saying
After 40 years of performing, many other bands lose it and suck, but Metallica keeps getting better!
This is not better it's worse. Anything after The Black Album sucks

It was his lyrics that hooked me way back in '88.
who is he referring to a chick maybe and he is atlas

Just to clarify, i'm not comparing these bands, it was merely explanatory :)
it does have a kind of Iron Maiden sound in someparts
James still has it in terms of coming up with a really solid and killer riff. However, this song is meh. If Metallica wanted to really shake things up, they should bring in a lead singer and let James do back up vocals and rhythm guitar. I don't think this song sucks are anything like that...Just feels like I heard many times before in other albums Metallica has done only not as fresh or good.
"Bridge Songs"? AKA filler before a good song? lol
Cecil Drakan dude go back to your milk and go to bed... this song a warm up???? and your attemp to review this song is a HUGE failure just by not mentioning the solos ... the melodies on the harmonies are unreal.
4:25 that melody has to be one of their best harmonies ever.
This song and whole album really grew on me. I used to hate this song along with a few others from this album and now I love them lol.
Yeah I've been listening to here comes revenge daily :D
Me too!
Why did you hate it at first?
Aaron Hurst I hated it because it wasn't as fast as moth into flame or hardwired, but I recently found a sped up version 1.25x faster and its amazing!
lol i hated the song hardwired at first, i love it now. amazing album. i am savage, atlas rise and halo on fire are my favs
Damn, I gotta admit. I faded out of Metallica during the St. Anger days, but these guys have really brought back the heat.
I agree.
Fuck yeah theyre back!!!!!
Moth into flame still the best so far
One solo cannot make it better.....
totlay agree moth into flame own till now , maybe we need to hear this one a couple of times

ahahahah sadly true
yeah
Well Metallica is heavily influenced by Maiden, so I don't get what the issue is.
*Sad, but true. :D
Sad but true*
In Greek mythology, Atlas was a Titan condemned to hold up the sky for eternity after the Titanomachy. Atlas was the son of the Titan Lapetus and the Oceanid Asia.He had many children, mostly daughters, the Hesperides, the Hyades, the Pleiades, and the nymph Calypso who lived on the island Ogygia. According to the ancient Greek poet Hesiod, Atlas stood at the ends of the earth towards the west.

Metallica haters are a very strange subspecies. Metallica has evolved, why don't you?!
KylefirecraftYTGamer YT have you had a stroke?
Totally agreed with you Chris
Newsflash, haters: Every artist sells out as soon as they sign a record deal.
3:24, You know its a delicious riff when Robert enters the room and immediately starts headbanging.
Man I love the riff on 3:13 one of their best in this album

The lyrics are what I like most about this one... and the harmony part (that was so awesome I almost drooled). Wish more songs would just tell stories rather than pop culture commentary.
