my uncle had a 4240 purchaed new in 1981. It had power shift. i remember seeing it for the first time when i was 5 years old. i was hypnotized by it. once i was older i got to do feed work with it.
Sadly a few years back he sold it because he didnt need it anymore.
    sadest day of my life.
Keep up the great job Kip!!!! God bless, have fun, be safe

I've always believed the New Holland Discbine is the best for cutting hay. Great combo of Deere and New Holland.

  • @valuedhumanoid6574
    @valuedhumanoid6574 2 года назад +5

Don't underestimate those old Deere's. ran a 4440 all through the 70's when I was a kid and it was one of the strongest machines for it's class you could find. It didn't even have a cab. It had a red and white canvas umbrella and an AM radio with a 4" corroded speaker. I pulled grain carts in the fall, plowed in the spring, cut hay year around and ran the "honey dipper" about once a month. She never once quit. I can remember shutting it off at night and the exhaust manifold glowing cherry red and it making all kinds of ticking noises as it cooled.

That discbine looks like it's working awesome just mowing through that tangled forage like butter and doing a clean job of it. 4240 sounds real nice too. I remember when the 4240 came out, at the time that 40 series was the class of John Deere tractors. Seemed most of the neighbors had 4440's. Time to chop, get 'er done!!

Another great video Kip! With new cows on a electric fence, we take some of that bright orange vinyl marking tape like they use on construction sites, and tie short pieces of it in a couple places between the posts. It works awesome and only cost a few dollars for like 500’. It’s very thin and tears easily. Keep up the great work!

I'm cutting hay today also . I sold my 3 dairy crosses steers yesterday. So I hand milked my jersey I got 3 gallons. She freshend 13 months ago I think because I let her dry out for 5 months before she had her cow is why she is still making so much milk

Thanks Kip for an outstanding video. Great video with lots of variety.
    Most interesting and enjoyable.
First of all Congratulations to you and your wife for the baby girl coming soon. Wonderful.
Not sure I know correctly but is that two older girls and a younger boy and a girl on the way.
    Got it right???!!!
Love the drone footage you have shot. Farming and America, that is what the drone footage does for me, just wonderful Kip.
Let’s talk silage time. Been many years since I have been around it. Those silage wagons, wow, pieces of history. So blow the wagons full of silage, have not seen how you are doing that yet. Have a self propelled blower or pull a blower with tractor????? Wagons go to blower on silo and fill the silo. What tractor is filling the silo. Usually takes a good sized tractor to blow silo. What tractor?????!
Please do show us the silage operation. Been years since I have been involved. Thanks Kip.
Your drone footage of all of the buildings is really dynamic. You have a lot and a lot of buildings in your operation. A lot to look after. Huge farming operation Kip!!!!!!’
Electric fences. We used to tie some red cloth strips on the fence so the cows and us could see it at first. Hard to see in the sun.
Lots to talk about on this video. Totally enjoyable video.
Never used a discbine. Interesting machine. Thanks for showing us.
You all take care and be safe.
Looking forward to the next video.
    Thanks for everything Kip.
    The Iowa farm boy.
    Steve.

Kip, a little millwright fable. Never saddle a dead horse. Taking a good look at the cable clamps on the silo unloader you have them on ass backwards. On yours you have the saddle on the dead end, hence the dead horse fable. A thimble would be a good addition as well.

Great video. I can remember mowing hay with an 8100 mfwd with duals and a 956 mower, I used to up and down. I feel it’s faster. My grandpa has always said after a while cows and heifers can tell when the fencer is on or off. Not sure how but they can tell.
