    What always gets me about this movie is that, if you notice, there's either:
    1) No background music playing, making the scene even more awkward
    2) Terrible music that sounds like something you'd hear in an early Nintendo game.

      The theme around the fairy-tale of Cinderella is as ancient as you think as it been running for over 2000 years which is quite clever because there were real romances between first and third class passengers on the Titanic on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York that ended in disaster. This should be revisited and improved to be more faithful to the history when William and Angelica get reunited on the RMS Carpathia when William is rescued by 5th Officer Harold Godfrey Lowe from collapsible lifeboat A with Detective Bradbury and 9 other survivors.

      I mean...think of the other Italian movies you've actually heard of. For me, that's *exclusively* a list of things like Troll 2 (the only people involved in making it that spoke english fluently were the actors), Starcrash, Starcrash 2, Tentacolino, this, etc. Most of them are exactly this - cheap knockoffs shit out as quickly and cheaply as possible to profit off of someone else's work and maybe trick a few people - and all of them are commonly regarded some of the worst films ever made. If you go on any random Bad Movie channel, basically everything on there released prior to the 80s was probably made by someone whose dad fought for Mussolini.
      I'm not saying this is exactly what Italy thinks people like, but only because the one Italian producer whose name I know is famous for believing it doesn't matter if anyone enjoys a movie, only that it turns a profit. It's definitely what they think makes money, though.

    You probably know that there are two different cuts of this film, one of which is longer, has different songs, different editing, and some more dialogue and explanation (Angelica's mother explains what had happened: she left Angelica in the rich lady's care when she fell on hard times, but then vanished with the little girl to exploit her as a servant and live off the money that Angelica's mother put in her bank account).
    Only...just because it was a different cut didn't make it BETTER. The dog's rap may have had more plot-relevant lyrics, but it was still a RAP. (And still showed the graffiti wall even though the editing was different.) The love ballad was different, but it was still a 1990s-sounding ballad. The only one that could really have been called an improvement was the mariachi song, which featured Spanish lyrics that ended with the words "this night will never be forgotten". (A Night To Remember, anyone?)

    • @MusicalHell
      @MusicalHell  10 лет назад +25

      Jennifer Schillig I do discuss some of the differences between the two versions in my commentary track for this episode. (I chose to focus on this one because it is more well-known, and also the songs are more insane.) Some of the added information does clarify things, but that bit about Angelica's mother always puzzled me--she gave away her daughter because she couldn't support her, and then had to paying support to a much wealthier family? I suspect the writers were going for something like Fantine's arrangement with the Thenardiers in Les Mis, but didn't think it through.

    • @dtaylor4552
      @dtaylor4552 7 лет назад +9

      That Explains a lot actually. Why would a gentle, beautiful and gifted soul like Angelica be put through this ordeal all her life? She must have been very brave confronting that ordeal in her own way, because it is very similar to Lemony Snickets A Series of Unfortunate Events because Count Olaf was only interested in the Baudelaire money and making the Baudelaire Children do a string of terrible chores in his house. And if Gertrude was aware her mother was on the Titanic it would have given Gertrude an excuse to make Angelicas situation even worse if her mother knew that Gertrude was trying to exploit her as a servant and by excommunicating Angelica from her family and making her life more of a living hell.

      Jaden Shelton so adding talking mice makes it okay for them to be a rip-off? But the mice THEMSELVES are ALSO ripoffs, I’m pretty sure I saw mouse characters that looked exactly like Fievel, Speedy Gonzalez, Bernard and Bianca and who knows who else. Oh and she didn’t mention it in this vid but during one of the rapping dog clips I spotted the geese from The Aristocats too.
      I would actually watch this just to see how many character lookalikes I could find. That’s just about the only fun thing ABOUT this movie tho, lol

    If you can find it, there was an animated King Kong film that was additionally a musical. It was awful, but I would love to see your take on it. It came out in the 90s, and I think was just "King Kong: the Musical"

I'll definitely have to take a closer look at that one--especially since there's a stage musical adaptation of "King Kong" that's looking to make its way to New York...

    I mean there was some comedy during the sinking in James Cameron’s Titanic. “Music to drown by, now I know I’m in first class.” That part where Rose and Jack tell that crew member to shut up, the part where Rose punches the guy in the nose and he says “To hell with you.” And “You wanna walk a little faster through that valley there?”

Titanic’s the only one I’ve seen, which I’m glad for. It’s in bad taste to make movies about real disasters.

    Y’know a decent animated movie about the titanic isn’t impossible even one with animal characters. I remember reading a children’s book about a mouse on the titanic. Just a mouse going about its life and it was really pleasant even when the ship sank (the mouse lived and hopped aboard a rescue boat) so it’s not impossible to tell this story to kids in a tasteful and competent way.
