" Peoples of the Turkic race are nomads and therefore these people live togheter with their animals and not only keep their economy afloat by grazing animals but also by raiding their neighbours. As far as we know the first group that got contact with these people are the Chinese, now if we look at their sources (before BC) it writes that the "Tujue 突厥 came" in other words the Turks came. As you know this topic has been controversial for a long time by raising the question where the Huns(Xiongnu/Hiung-nu) of Metehan Turks? Now when the Chinese are talking about these people they call them "Tujue 突厥" and if we look at what they are describing like certain features that are beneficial for themselves, for example their army for these people (Chinese). The very first "unit of ten thousand" system (Old Turkic: tümän; Mongolian: Түмэн, tümen; Old Chinese: 萬, tman; Turkish: tümen; Hungarian: tömény;) that applied this are these people. They thought the Romans did but no it was used much earlier. This very concept an army of 10 like the very words: "onbaşı(10) - yüzbaşı (100) - binbaşı (1000)" originates from here and is very old and this concept has come to Dzjengis Khan as well and so he used this very same organisational structure in his army. Dzjengis Khan does not establish his capital where he was born but in Otuken - Mongolia (the very first capital of Turkic Khaganate and Uyghur Khaganate) in other words he preserves the Turkish tradition that this place is the capital because he sees himself as the continuation of these people.
Look I went to Kharkhorin in Mongolia and nearby this place there is a town Karakurum and in this town the Mongolians build a huge monument and has 3 corners. And looking at the front side of this monument there is a giant map of an empire drawn and under this they wrote "Mongolian nation". Then you go to the back and you can see another giant map you can read Xiongnu/Hiung-nu nation so basically the nation that the Chinese refer these peoples as "Tujue 突厥". Then we go to the next side and you can read "Turkish nation" and there is also an giant map of the Göktürks and when I saw this I was shocked. And there I was with a friend who brought me there a geologist and scholar Tomurtogoo and asked him wait now this is your national heritage! (40km away from where the Orchoninscripties in Otuken are placed) and further I asked him what are the Turks doing here? aren't you Mongolians!? Tomurtogoo looked at me and explained: We do not make such a distinction, he said. When he says we are a nation, he means there, is a group that culturally, linguistically and to a very large extent biologically hold each other togheter because for this race the very physical attributes and characteristics are common to all of these peoples. They don't look like the Chinese, they don't look like the Tibetans in the south, next to them they don't look like the Indo-Europeans. Therefore there is an Turkic race, but the Romans rightly have known that these peoples have had great empires and are in population quite small. The nomadic economy cannot feed large populations. After the invention of agriculture, cities emerged and large populations were fed and also have been mixed with other populations. When the Turks went to the east they started mixing with the Chinese and when they went to the west they started mixing with the Indo-Europeans. I don’t know if it was intentional, but you seem to imply that Turkey conquered westward into Central Asia. This is incorrect. Turks, who from my understanding are more or less Mongol related people, began in Central Asia and conquered the old Persian/Arab Islamic Empire and create the various empires in southwest Asia. This culminated in the Ottomans and finally Turkey. This was about 9th-10th century onward, I think. So Turkey is trying to reconnect with the Turkish homelands

It's a little more complicated than that. The creators of Turkic identity was definitely first documented somewhere between China and Russia, but the modern definition of Turkic identity is cultural and linguistic family as opposed to an ethnic one. Although you are absolutely right in how and where it originated, the main seed that kept the ideology alive originated in Western Anatolia, under the founder of latter renamed the Ottoman empire. Through the Ottomans was this spark connected and Turned into a family. Before that, it was strangers that were conquered and Turkified. It all comes down to perspectives, was it chicken or the egg? If you gave birth in three countries and abandoned your kids, would they be yours or would you have to visit them and reveal to them who they are. If you don't, they would remain a German child growing up with a single mother, never knowing she was an Ottoman.
An important factor of course is military capabilities. It's not a secret that the Turkic Council has ambitions to be its own defense pact at one point and for that you need a varsity of good weapon systems, not limited to drones. Like the current Ukrainian govt asks the world to help them with, you need anti-air, tanks, fighter jets etc. Turkish defense industry contractors are working 24/7 on developing these difficult systems for decades now. The idea is of course first and foremost to be independent in an increasingly chaotic world, but also to be lending a handing hand for those that are in alignment. You don't have to look back too long ago, just 5 or 6 years or so, this would have been considered a fantasy. But seeing the achievements of the last years in different fields of which most won't make it to mainstream news cycles, there is a strong reason to be hopeful at least.

This is probably hard to see for an observer from the outside.. but it's not just on a diplomatic level that Turkey and the other Turkic states have gotten exponentially closer in the past decade. 10/15 years ago, if I looked up videos on Turkic history the Turkic comments were 90% Turkish, 5 to 10% Azerbaijani. If I looked up virdeos on different Turkic peoples, most of the comments from other Turkic people were largely Turkish comments etc etc. Today, if you look up videos on Turkic history .. you see a diversity of comments from all over the Turkic world. From independent Turkic states in central Asia, to Ughurs to Tatars and other Turkic people from autonomous Russian federal republics etc The Turkish comments get drowned out by the amount of interest shown by other Turkic people. Azerbaijan and Turkey have always been close. But today? Esp after Karabag? The saying "two states, one nation" which both people have used for decades is basically a reality. We are closer than ever before. Turkish language videos be it news, tv, shows, series and movies are full of Azerbaijani and also central Asian Turkic comments. My mother came to visit me recently and asked if I could put some Turkish tv show on. I did and noticed the live chat under the video was almost entirely Azerbaijani from both Azerbaijan but also Iran. And a lot of Turkmen (Iraqi, Syrian Turkmen) comments etc. Turkic people throughout are rediscovering their own identity and their connection to each other. And I think it helps that Turkey is successful in projecting soft and hard power all over. Be it Syria/Idlib, Libya, Karabag or the destruction Turkish systems have been sowing in Ukraine against the Russians.. Turkey has been humiliating the former USSR and kinda showed that in a sense Russia is a paper tiger. Especially now with Ukraine I think even the biggest fans and assimilated pro Russian people in central Asia have taken a step back and reassessed the situation. Because not only is Russia fighting a war that it's getting humiliated in, basically everyone agrees it's not a just war. On top of that Russia loves to threaten their neighbors constantly .. like Russian parliamentarians saying that Kazakhstan isn't even a real country etc etc (basically same stuff they said about Ukraine) Anyway, my point is. This isn't just diplomatic efforts between countries. The more there is a will from the people to connect, learn and discover about each other the more pressure there is on governments to act on it. The more politicians, teachers, diplomats, influencers, historians, sociologists etc will grow up to want to further discover and expand those bonds. Not because there is some profit but because it becomes a point of pride, ideology, love a passion. I think this is just a start to be honest, and depending on how things go we could see a much higher level of cooperation between these states. And I truly do hope that happens. Not just because I am proud of my heritage, but because we are stronger, more prosperous and more capable together.

Another important reason for the success of the Turks was their superior military technology and art of war . These nomads from the Steppes could be credited with introducing ' the age of the horse .
The Indo-Europeans were the first nomadic horse-bound peoples to conquer large swathes of Eurasia, but the Turks and Mongols ushered in an era of steppe-dominance never seen before in history. Also, the steppe-peoples were my most means technologically inferior to the settled peoples that they conquered, but they used a horde-type strategy to great effect.

@@seb_5969 Truth is, there is no definitive answer to the question. Very hard to pin-point where it originated, because the Turkic ethnos includes various ancient cultures. It could be from anywhere from Eastern Europe to North Siberia.

Turks indeed had a decisive role in triggering historical major events like the Migration Period, Crusades, Age of Discovery as well as ending the Middle Ages with the conquest of Constantinople, fall of the Roman Empire.
The Turks certainly did not cause either the Migration Period or the Crusades. The remnants of the Hunnic invasion were the Magyar, who clearly speak a unique and distinctly not Turkish language.
@@jensboettiger5286 The First Crusade happened due to Seljuk Invasions of Anatolia and Levant and Crusaders promised to return ex-Byzantine lands to the Byzantine Empire. The Crusades were caused by the Turks. And the Migration Period was a domino effect started by the Xiongnu. So it is a question of if Xiongnu were Turkic or Mongolic, and the current academic consensus is that they were Turkic.

So while Tajikistan is in central Asian, they’re an Iranian people while Azeris ar Turkic, which is part of why the Turks support Azerbaijan against Armenia. Obviously they had hatred towards them a century ago when they caused Armenians to flee after almost eradicating the nation, but it’s important to note the almost contiguous extent of Indo-Iranians from Kurdistan to South Asia versus Turkic peoples who also occupy ‘Stan’ countries. (India is Hindustan and had a much higher Muslim population before partition and considerable Persian cultural influence through trade and conquest.) So the actual interplay between Central Asia has been even more complex as Chinese, Iranian and Indic influences (the Buddhist statues in Afghanistan for instance) and the presence of Turkic/Mongolic names in northern Indian due to Mongols and their Mughal successors. So Turkey has a lot of competition for influence, but as the largest predominantly Turkic state, they have similar language, religion, and descended culture on their side.

I never cease to be shocked at how popular Turkish tv dramas on Netflix, movies and music are in United States (?!?), Latin America, Africa- no need to mention Arab countries of course. India was ruled by Turkic dynasties for 1000 years (Babur dynasty or Mughals being the masters). What Indian think as iersusk is indeed Turkic. I wish nothing but the best for the people of Central Asia and Turkey, and I have some serious distrust that either Russia or China is much interested in driving economic growth in the region as opposed to just taking what they can purely for their own benefit. That said, I find old men with dreams of recreating past imperial glory (such as Erogen seems to be) seldom have the capability to deliver on the dream, and given Turkey's current economic state I don't know that their present administration is going to be able to do much in practical terms to pull this off in a way that creates tangible benefits for the people of the region.

I wonder how this will play out for the Uyghur people currently undergoing a genocide at the hands of Beijing. I'm talking about their hopes for the genocide to end and for the PRC to be held accountable, but also their aspirations for statehood and their place in the arrangement of Central Asia as envisioned by Erdogan in Ankara. I know that China has been able to buy the silence of Central Asian states via the Belt and Road scheme, but I wonder just how much Pan-Turkic ideology at the grassroots and state levels might push back against them. Especially with emerging de facto independent Turkic states like Tatarstan and Bashkortostan facing the impending collapse of the Russian Federation.
Outside of Central Asia, in the Caucasus, Azerbaijan is also a Turkic country. A majority of ethnic Azeris actually live in northwestern Iran, in the provinces of Iranian Azerbaijan. Obviously, there's the ongoing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan to be considered here, but I do wonder about the potential for conflict in Iranian Azerbaijan as a result of pan-Turkism. There's also many Turkic minority groups in Russia, that are native to the territory of the Russian Federation (eg. Tatars, Chuvash peoples, Siberian Turks, etc.). I could see where pan-Turkism might be a thorn in the side of the Iranian and Russian governments, especially with NATO member Turkey leading the charge. I also feel some concerns about attempts to undermine the unity of NATO on the parts of governments threatened by pan-Turkism, namely by encouraging conflict between Greece and Turkey. Back to Central Asia, Tajikistan speaks a form of the Persian language (Tajik), but there are many Turkic speakers there too.
Conflicts between Greece and Turkey is just election technique of Erdogan and his Greek counterpart. No Turk ever said to me ever about how they hated Greece. But i had lots of people saying that Greeks are just us within a different religious costume. We even have a saying in Turkey that goes like this: if two turkish people and two greek people meets, they fight. If one Turkish person and one Greek person meets, they would just sit on a sunset near the sea and drink Raki while singing songs. This explains why there will never be a greek turkish war even if there's a whole Turkic alliance even in terms like EU. Some countries want this war to happen though and would do anything to provoke it, especially Russia because it would further isolate Turkey within Nato and force it to become closer allies with Russia.
The Azeris in Iran aren't really happy about being ripped of from power in 1925 by the British. I think a conflict within depends on the behaviour of the Persians. If they continue to be that arrogant and call the Azeris cockroaches, the Turks (not Turkey Turks but in a Turkic meaning) will raise their flag again in Tehran.

As someone of Azeri heritage, I will have to admit that Azerbaijanis, while being Turkic Speakers, are of Iranic stock. The Azeris in Iran, in particular, are genetically tied to Persians and Kurds. The Azeris in the Republic of Azerbaijan are actually genetically closer to Armenians than to the original Turkic groups of Central Asia. They also carry Iranic ancestry, but to a lesser degree. Culturally, Azeris are heavily Iranic. They celebrate the Zoroastrian holiday of Nowruz. Their foods are closest to Persian foods. Their customs are closest to those of other Iranic groups. The name of Azeris is even Iranic. It comes from Old Persian Atar, Middle Persian Adar, and New Persian Azar. All mean "FIRE." Azerbaijan had the most Zoroastrian temples in pre-Islamic times. It was the Land of Fire. Yashasun Azerbaijan!

The threat of the Organisation of Turkish States is perhaps even greater for Beijing than it is for Moscow, when you take into consideration the Uyghur who are a turkic people and the 'East Turkestan' independence movement in the region. A strong Turkic union could lead to a similar situation as we saw with Pakistan/Afghanistan and the funding of terrorist organisations in the country. That's probably true, according to a CGTN documentary released in 2021, the former director of the Xinjiang Education Department deliberately changed the 2003, 2009 Uyghur langugage text books for primary school and middle school to promote Pan-Turkism, Pan-Islamism, reglious extremism and ethnic animosity against Han Chinese, featuring Turkic and Islamic historic figures prominently while making very little reference to PRC, Chinese history or culture. Those text books were used for 13 years starting from 2004. So half a generation of Uyghurs that studied in Uyghur language schools would've been affected.

Thank you for this information. As a Turk, the information is correct, but it is clear that Central Asia still hesitates to show their will under the hegemony of China and Russia. While China penetrates Central Asia for its underground resources, which are more important to him, Russia's eastern security passes through the security of Central Asia. I think that in the future, we will see India, China, Russia, Iran and Turkey all vie for control of Central Asia, including in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Already, we can see a Iran-Russia Axis forming. India so far seems pretty uninterested in the region, but I think this will change. So far, despite strained relations, the West has mostly thrown in behind Turkey and Azerbaijan and both seem interested in spreading their influence over the Caspian Sea. Time will tell what happens, but we can already see Russian and Iranian influence starting to subside in the region

How exactly do you see Iranian influence subside exactly? In the caucasus iran had and still has even stronger relations with Armenia, with azerbaijan they never had much. With the central asian states Iran never had much either, except for Tajikistan which was very low as well, but they're now starting to develope rapidly. So if anything Iranian influence is just starting. Iranian influence will only disappear if the Azerbaijanis and Turkey manage to break through Armenia.

It's a nice sentiment to feel a form of connection to other, similar cultures. However, Pan-Xism has been tried numerous times up to the present day and have never worked. It has always ended in some sort of conflict, often with a devastating and completely unnecessary loss in human life. Do not repeat the mistakes of the past, learn from it instead. Be under no illusion, Turkey is using Pan-Turkism as a path to hegemony. Just like Prussia with Pan-Germanism, Serbia and Russia with Pan-Slavism, Iraq with Pan-Arabism, and so on. The path for Prussian hegemony in a unified Germany dates back to the time of Bismarck in the late 1800's. Turkic languages haven't originated in Turkey. Turkic tribes have originally came from Altay region in Central Asia. And havde conquered all the lands where we now live and much more. I am not going to say non-sense stuff or suggest forming Turan Empire or anything like that. Historic Turkestan spans in a huge area from the Yakutsk in Siberia to Xinjiang in China or to Horasan region of Iran. Most of these people also identify themselves as 'Turk' and look at Turkey with a ton of sympathy. As an ally of NATO and the Western Bloc for more than 70 years, Turkey offers the most realistic opportunity to US & EU to challenge the already weakened Russian influence and possibly Chinese influence in the region. Organization of Turkic States or 'OTC'- an intergovernmental mostly cultural and economical organization might have the real chance to become a real political and military organization with some backing from NATO and the West. For instance, Turkey's influence in Azerbaijan has already hurt Russian influence in the country. If we see democratisation in Azerbaijan to some degree, we might even start discussing their NATO membership. Turkey is a very strategical member for NATO - perhaps a wild card if you look at the bigger game, China, Russia and Iran and India. Presidential elections on May 14th are perhaps the most important elections of 2023. Increased Turkish support and commitment to NATO might be just enough to guarantee a Russian defeat in Ukraine.

What catastrophe? If we throw away the negatively charged idea of Pan-Slavism as "Russian Pan-Slavism" it was a huge success, compared to pan-nationalism movements. Scandinavianism was dead before it was even a thing, Pan-Germanicism brought us Hitler, Pan-Arabism had more states that have all fallen (rather violently usually) aside from UAE, the only sucessful pan-nationalist state to this day. Pan-Turkism was never realised in the slightest. Meanwhile we had Yugoslavism that got buried by Germans (They have literally sworn to dismantle Yugoslavia, also the darkest page of NATO history), Czechoslovakia, a wildly sucessful initiative dismantled by politicans without the general opinion's consent (most were against dissolving) which happened in a very elegant way anyways. Polish-Czechoslovak confederation didn't get to be a thing becuase first Germans destroyed them as independent states, then Soviets demanded to stop the works on it. We should give it a try, just without Russians so we'd have no warmongering maniacs inside. A united Slavia would solve balkan problems by giving Serbs a stronger state, which would curb their expansionism, Czechs couldnnot care about anything in the world as they do, Slovaks could stay in their mountains, Poles would get 90% ofnthe Commonwealth back and be happy with it, Ukrainians would be safe from Russia and Belarusians could be free.

Even in the West, the potential of a czechoslovak-polish state died the second polish artillery guns started to bomb cities as a prelude to the invasion which later got pulverized by the czechoslovak army. Same with the later invasion when czechoslovakia got occupied as Poland saw it as a opportunity to get more land as a Germany’s friend. Same with '68 when polish troops came to crush the czechoslovak uprising. There are precisely 2 nations which have any possibility of joining together, lasting and not immidiately trying to kill each other, the Czechs and Slovaks and even that has failed. Sure, we do like each other and we were one of the very few peaceful breakups of countries in modern history but we still broke. It is true that the politicians divided the country without a referendum but the people were asked and the answers was either apathy or agreement with the breakup. The Czechs wanted to ditch the Slovaks to get into the eu faster while Slovaks were absolutely and completely fed up with the iron grip rule of Prague and how they were little more then a overglorified colony. That's why, even if you asked today, in either of the countries the answer to reunification is a resounding No

army of 10 like the very words: "onbaşı(10) - yüzbaşı (100) - binbaşı (1000)" originates
from here and is very old and this concept has come to Dzjengis Khan as well and so he
used this very same organisational structure in his army.
Dzjengis Khan does not establish his capital where he was born but in Otuken - Mongolia
(the very first capital of Turkic Khaganate and Uyghur Khaganate) in other words he preserves
the Turkish tradition that this place is the capital because he sees himself as the continuation
of these people.
Look I went to Kharkhorin in Mongolia and nearby this place there is a town Karakurum
and in this town the Mongolians build a huge monument and has 3 corners. And looking at the front
side of this monument there is a giant map of an empire drawn and under this they wrote "Mongolian
nation". Then you go to the back and you can see another giant map you can read Xiongnu/Hiung-nu nation
so basically the nation that the Chinese refer these peoples as "Tujue 突厥". Then we go to the next

I don’t know if it was intentional, but you seem to imply that Turkey conquered westward into Central Asia. This is incorrect. Turks, who from my understanding are more or less Mongol related people, began in Central Asia and conquered the old Persian/Arab Islamic Empire and create the various empires in southwest Asia. This culminated in the Ottomans and finally Turkey. This was about 9th-10th century onward, I think. So Turkey is trying to reconnect with the Turkish homelands

It's a little more complicated than that. The creators of Turkic identity was definitely first documented somewhere between China and Russia, but the modern definition of Turkic identity is cultural and linguistic family as opposed to an ethnic one. Although you are absolutely right in how and where it originated, the main seed that kept the ideology alive originated in Western Anatolia, under the founder of latter renamed the Ottoman empire. Through the Ottomans was this spark connected and Turned into a family. Before that, it was strangers that were conquered and Turkified. It all comes down to perspectives, was it chicken or the egg? If you gave birth in three countries and abandoned your kids, would they be yours or would you have to visit them and reveal to them who they are. If you don't, they would remain a German child growing up with a single mother, never knowing she was an Ottoman.

An important factor of course is military capabilities. It's not a secret that the Turkic Council has ambitions to be its own defense pact at one point and for that you need a varsity of good weapon systems, not limited to drones. Like the current Ukrainian govt asks the world to help them with, you need anti-air, tanks, fighter jets etc. Turkish defense industry contractors are working 24/7 on developing these difficult systems for decades now. The idea is of course first and foremost to be independent in an increasingly chaotic world, but also to be lending a handing hand for those that are in alignment. You don't have to look back too long ago, just 5 or 6 years or so, this would have been considered a fantasy. But seeing the achievements of the last years in different fields of which most won't make it to mainstream news cycles, there is a strong reason to be hopeful at least.

This is probably hard to see for an observer from the outside.. but it's not just on a diplomatic level that Turkey and the other Turkic states have gotten exponentially closer in the past decade.
10/15 years ago, if I looked up videos on Turkic history the Turkic comments were 90% Turkish, 5 to 10% Azerbaijani. If I looked up virdeos on different Turkic peoples, most of the comments from other Turkic people were largely Turkish comments etc etc.
Today, if you look up videos on Turkic history .. you see a diversity of comments from all over the Turkic world. From independent Turkic states in central Asia, to Ughurs to Tatars and other Turkic people from autonomous Russian federal republics etc The Turkish comments get drowned out by the amount of interest shown by other Turkic people.
Azerbaijan and Turkey have always been close. But today? Esp after Karabag? The saying "two states, one nation" which both people have used for decades is basically a reality. We are closer than ever before. Turkish language videos be it news, tv, shows, series and movies are full of Azerbaijani and also central Asian Turkic comments. My mother came to visit me recently and asked if I could put some Turkish tv show on. I did and noticed the live chat under the video was almost entirely Azerbaijani from both Azerbaijan but also Iran. And a lot of Turkmen (Iraqi, Syrian Turkmen) comments etc.
Turkic people throughout are rediscovering their own identity and their connection to each other. And I think it helps that Turkey is successful in projecting soft and hard power all over. Be it Syria/Idlib, Libya, Karabag or the destruction Turkish systems have been sowing in Ukraine against the Russians.. Turkey has been humiliating the former USSR and kinda showed that in a sense Russia is a paper tiger. Especially now with Ukraine I think even the biggest fans and assimilated pro Russian people in central Asia have taken a step back and reassessed the situation. Because not only is Russia fighting a war that it's getting humiliated in, basically everyone agrees it's not a just war. On top of that Russia loves to threaten their neighbors constantly .. like Russian parliamentarians saying that Kazakhstan isn't even a real country etc etc (basically same stuff they said about Ukraine)
Anyway, my point is. This isn't just diplomatic efforts between countries. The more there is a will from the people to connect, learn and discover about each other the more pressure there is on governments to act on it. The more politicians, teachers, diplomats, influencers, historians, sociologists etc will grow up to want to further discover and expand those bonds. Not because there is some profit but because it becomes a point of pride, ideology, love a passion.
I think this is just a start to be honest, and depending on how things go we could see a much higher level of cooperation between these states. And I truly do hope that happens. Not just because I am proud of my heritage, but because we are stronger, more prosperous and more capable together.

So while Tajikistan is in central Asian, they’re an Iranian people while Azeris ar Turkic, which is part of why the Turks support Azerbaijan against Armenia. Obviously they had hatred towards them a century ago when they caused Armenians to flee after almost eradicating the nation, but it’s important to note the almost contiguous extent of Indo-Iranians from Kurdistan to South Asia versus Turkic peoples who also occupy ‘Stan’ countries. (India is Hindustan and had a much higher Muslim population before partition and considerable Persian cultural influence through trade and conquest.)
So the actual interplay between Central Asia has been even more complex as Chinese, Iranian and Indic influences (the Buddhist statues in Afghanistan for instance) and the presence of Turkic/Mongolic names in northern Indian due to Mongols and their Mughal successors.
So Turkey has a lot of competition for influence, but as the largest predominantly Turkic state, they have similar language, religion, and descended culture on their side.

I wish nothing but the best for the people of Central Asia and Turkey, and I have some serious distrust that either Russia or China is much interested in driving economic growth in the region as opposed to just taking what they can purely for their own benefit. That said, I find old men with dreams of recreating past imperial glory (such as Erogen seems to be) seldom have the capability to deliver on the dream, and given Turkey's current economic state I don't know that their present administration is going to be able to do much in practical terms to pull this off in a way that creates tangible benefits for the people of the region.

I wonder how this will play out for the Uyghur people currently undergoing a genocide at the hands of Beijing. I'm talking about their hopes for the genocide to end and for the PRC to be held accountable, but also their aspirations for statehood and their place in the arrangement of Central Asia as envisioned by Erdogan in Ankara. I know that China has been able to buy the silence of Central Asian states via the Belt and Road scheme, but I wonder just how much Pan-Turkic ideology at the grassroots and state levels might push back against them. Outside of Central Asia, in the Caucasus, Azerbaijan is also a Turkic country. A majority of ethnic Azeris actually live in northwestern Iran, in the provinces of Iranian Azerbaijan.
Obviously, there's the ongoing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan to be considered here, but I do wonder about the potential for conflict in Iranian Azerbaijan as a result of pan-Turkism. There's also many Turkic minority groups in Russia, that are native to the territory of the Russian Federation (eg. Tatars, Chuvash peoples, Siberian Turks, etc.). I could see where pan-Turkism might be a thorn in the side of the Iranian and Russian governments, especially with NATO member Turkey leading the charge. I also feel some concerns about attempts to undermine the unity of NATO on the parts of governments threatened by pan-Turkism, namely by encouraging conflict between Greece and Turkey.
Back to Central Asia, Tajikistan speaks a form of the Persian language (Tajik), but there are many Turkic speakers there too.
Conflicts between Greece and Turkey is just election technique of Erdogan and his Greek counterpart. No Turk ever said to me ever about how they hated Greece. But i had lots of people saying that Greeks are just us within a different religious costume. We even have a saying in Turkey that goes like this: if two turkish people and two greek people meets, they fight. If one Turkish person and one Greek person meets, they would just sit on a sunset near the sea and drink Raki while singing songs. This explains why there will never be a greek turkish war even if there's a whole Turkic alliance even in terms like EU. Some countries want this war to happen though and would do anything to provoke it, especially Russia because it would further isolate Turkey within Nato and force it to become closer allies with Russia.
The Azeris in Iran aren't really happy about being ripped of from power in 1925 by the British. I think a conflict within depends on the behaviour of the Persians. If they continue to be that arrogant and call the Azeris cockroaches, the Turks (not Turkey Turks but in a Turkic meaning) will raise their flag again in Tehran.

As someone of Azeri heritage, I will have to admit that Azerbaijanis, while being Turkic Speakers, are of Iranic stock. The Azeris in Iran, in particular, are genetically tied to Persians and Kurds. The Azeris in the Republic of Azerbaijan are actually genetically closer to Armenians than to the original Turkic groups of Central Asia. They also carry Iranic ancestry, but to a lesser degree.
Culturally, Azeris are heavily Iranic. They celebrate the Zoroastrian holiday of Nowruz. Their foods are closest to Persian foods. Their customs are closest to those of other Iranic groups.
The name of Azeris is even Iranic. It comes from Old Persian Atar, Middle Persian Adar, and New Persian Azar. All mean "FIRE." Azerbaijan had the most Zoroastrian temples in pre-Islamic times. It was the Land of Fire. Yashasun Azerbaijan!

Those text books were used for 13 years starting from 2004. So half a generation of Uyghurs that studied in Uyghur language schools would've been affected.

I think that in the future, we will see India, China, Russia, Iran and Turkey all vie for control of Central Asia, including in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Already, we can see a Iran-Russia Axis forming. India so far seems pretty uninterested in the region, but I think this will change. So far, despite strained relations, the West has mostly thrown in behind Turkey and Azerbaijan and both seem interested in spreading their influence over the Caspian Sea. Time will tell what happens, but we can already see Russian and Iranian influence starting to subside in the region

It's a nice sentiment to feel a form of connection to other, similar cultures. However, Pan-Xism has been tried numerous times up to the present day and have never worked. It has always ended in some sort of conflict, often with a devastating and completely unnecessary loss in human life. Do not repeat the mistakes of the past, learn from it instead.
Be under no illusion, Turkey is using Pan-Turkism as a path to hegemony. Just like Prussia with Pan-Germanism, Serbia and Russia with Pan-Slavism, Iraq with Pan-Arabism, and so on.

I am not going to say non-sense stuff or suggest forming Turan Empire or anything like that. Historic Turkestan spans in a huge area from the Yakutsk in Siberia to Xinjiang in China or to Horasan region of Iran. Most of these people also identify themselves as 'Turk' and look at Turkey with a ton of sympathy. As an ally of NATO and the Western Bloc for more than 70 years, Turkey offers the most realistic opportunity to US & EU to challenge the already weakened Russian influence and possibly Chinese influence in the region. Organization of Turkic States or 'OTC'- an intergovernmental mostly cultural and economical organization might have the real chance to become a real political and military organization with some backing from NATO and the West. For instance, Turkey's influence in Azerbaijan has already hurt Russian influence in the country. If we see democratisation in Azerbaijan to some degree, we might even start discussing their NATO membership. Turkey is a very strategical member for NATO - perhaps a wild card if you look at the bigger game, China, Russia and Iran and India. Presidential elections on May 14th are perhaps the most important elections of 2023. Increased Turkish support and commitment to NATO might be just enough to guarantee a Russian defeat in Ukraine.
Well since NATO is trying to stir up Turkey with their support to PKK/YPG terror groups, We will see more and more anti-NATO sentiments from people.

What catastrophe? If we throw away the negatively charged idea of Pan-Slavism as "Russian Pan-Slavism" it was a huge success, compared to pan-nationalism movements. Scandinavianism was dead before it was even a thing, Pan-Germanicism brought us Hitler, Pan-Arabism had more states that have all fallen (rather violently usually) aside from UAE, the only sucessful pan-nationalist state to this day. Pan-Turkism was never realised in the slightest. Meanwhile we had Yugoslavism that got buried by Germans (They have literally sworn to dismantle Yugoslavia, also the darkest page of NATO history), Czechoslovakia, a wildly sucessful initiative dismantled by politicans without the general opinion's consent (most were against dissolving) which happened in a very elegant way anyways. Polish-Czechoslovak confederation didn't get to be a thing becuase first Germans destroyed them as independent states, then Soviets demanded to stop the works on it.
We should give it a try, just without Russians so we'd have no warmongering maniacs inside. A united Slavia would solve balkan problems by giving Serbs a stronger state, which would curb their expansionism, Czechs couldnnot care about anything in the world as they do, Slovaks could stay in their mountains, Poles would get 90% ofnthe Commonwealth back and be happy with it, Ukrainians would be safe from Russia and Belarusians could be free.

The balkans is a pile of nations that hate each other more then anyone else, same with eastern slavs. Might have something to do with people not wanting to be under Serbias grip. Even in the West, the potential of a czechoslovak-polish state died the second polish artillery guns started to bomb cities as a prelude to the invasion which later got pulverized by the czechoslovak army. Same with the later invasion when czechoslovakia got occupied as Poland saw it as a opportunity to get more land as a Germany’s friend. Same with '68 when polish troops came to crush the czechoslovak uprising. There are precisely 2 nations which have any possibility of joining together, lasting and not immidiately trying to kill each other, the Czechs and Slovaks and even that has failed. Sure, we do like each other and we were one of the very few peaceful breakups of countries in modern history but we still broke. It is true that the politicians divided the country without a referendum but the people were asked and the answers was either apathy or agreement with the breakup. The Czechs wanted to ditch the Slovaks to get into the eu faster while Slovaks were absolutely and completely fed up with the iron grip rule of Prague and how they were little more then a overglorified colony. That's why, even if you asked today, in either of the countries the answer to reunification is a resounding No
@@Brother_Rony Last polls I have checked had 54% Don't know 30-something yes for reunifcation in Czechis, the more apathetic part. The matter of Polish-Czechoslovak border in particular is problematic, but the truth is it was the Czechoslovaks that struck first and genocided the border populace, in fear of the referendums being in favor of Poland. Then Poland seized the very same territories back (without agreement with Hitler, they just walked in in the general turmoil), then Slovakia has seized them again. They are In Czechia and Slovakia today anyways. So much blood spilled over a bit of land. Wouldn't a union state help? The politicans were negotianing the Polish-Czechoslovak confederation in exile too, much like Yugoslavia-Greece, killed by Stalin. I just believe we Slavs, have more in common than we let ourselves believe. Westerners need protection from German imperialism, both economic and sadly, physical, considering growing pseudo-facist support in Germany. Southerners need peace and strengh, something to let them stop thinking about borders, freedom of movement. We will become one, either through EU, or on our own terms, if we try. European Federalism is growing and it'll either lead to collapse of EU or forge a federation. We should try to make our own, to get a stronger position. The clock is ticking, it may be the last straw. I will never believe in a "European man" too much people for that. But a "Slav" especially without Russians? One that considers other Slavs his brothers? One that looks upon our past of tribalism with an indulgent grin? A slav, perhaps speaking a panslavic language in addition to his own? Would that not be great? Strong, Safe from foreign interference, with our own identity? And perhaps then in EU as a negotiating partner to Germany and France, not a glorified subject? A leader perhaps? We need unity. Masaryk and Pilsudski have seen that long before any others did, too bad their visions were incompatible.
Arabs try to unite, Turkic people do too. Germans have been declawed for the time. Why should we not try?
