You should come check out the game again. They took what the community was saying and completely reworked most of the game. Across the board everybody has been loving the changes. Please consider to come back and review again
I did not purchase Nightingale when it first came out. I didn't because I played the Alpha and was not happy at all with it. It was NOT intuitive. HOWEVER, I have been watching the game and hoping it would make a lot of changes. IT DID. I purchased it (9/15/2024) and I really love all of the changes. IF you are reading this now? Purchase it - it's a lot of fun!
IMO It definitely is worth it. I played it a LOT, and I like what already is in it, even though it is in an early phase of early access. Do keep in mind tho: 1) they are working on making it run offline. It wasn't intended, they only started on it when they heard player demand on it, and its a HUGE job to do. It will come eventually, but not next week. Hey, they added 3rd person mode too, which also wasn't part of the original idea, but people wanted it so... 2) its early-early access. It isn't buggy (I have only encountered like 2 bugs in all the time I played with it), but it is not where the final game will be. They already modified, balanced, and added stuff multiple times since its out. The thing to note above all: They take their time to do it right. What I mean by it, they for example prioritize fixing bugs etc. before adding more content. They DID add new content already, but only when it worked. Those who (like me) play Conan exile for example, know very well how it is when content comes first and bug fixing, balancing comes late or never :-D So its slower, but way steadier. 3) Its a very niche game. I live and die for stuff like The difference engine, or Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, or Changeling: the dreaming, or... I also love Conan exiles, even with the freaking bugs, and Valheim, and stuff like that. But if you don't, this game may not be for you.
@@unseeliedream42 Its more that I love Changeling than that I actually play it, being the forever DM that I am, also my group prefers Vampire, Cthulhu, WFRP etc. I do keep smuggling Changeling material into their campaigns though ;-)
I liked the concept of this disjointed universe and players struggling to get back to this city... ...but the environments so far feel pretty similar with creatures that also behave similarly. Furthermore... it really does just feel like this grindy solo player game where the crafting is just one tier after another. I think it would have made more sense to randomly throw a bunch of new players together and then allow them to cooperatively go out into further realms conquering bosses and various challenges. What it is setup to do from the start is make a "base location" and you explore from there (because all tiers require harvesting and new upgraded tiered devices to make further tiers of upgraded devices) yet because of the design, I don't feel is any real ownership over the house or land I build on. It ends up feeling like I'm creating a temporary dwelling that I'm trying to enjoy and personalize that's really replaceable at any time because the land itself is so randomized and actually really is replaceable. Additionally, there's this mystical city as a prize or goal out there I'm trying to reach and where all the great stuff and lore must be but I'm gated by hundreds of hours of grind time to get there in a place I don't really feel that attachment to. Going back to the concept, I think it's great but something is missing with how we start and branch out. It looks and is marketed like it should be a PvE cooperative game (with solo option) but so far the first 50 hours of gameplay is a solo grind-fest. The story-line starts us out with interacting with a single npc character, Puck, who we're really not sure if he's on our side and we don't particularly have any attachment to him and all interactions going out from there are one-on-one with other scattered npcs. I really think it needs to start in a different matter... draw us into the story-line and world more... I think of like the intro to Guild Wars 2 (I know different combat and not as much a crafting game, it's an mmo, yada yada) but think about how the intro immediately draws in new player to the setting/story. Lots of action and more "showing" and less "telling" by this Puck character. The actionas compliment the narrative creates your purpose as you then head out into the greater world. You work cooperatively from the get-go and it gives you reason to go further into the world. Okay, so this is a different model of game, but again, the introduction and design match the story, world, and purpose while I'm not seeing this occur at least in the marketing of Nightingale. I almost think that it would be so much better for, similar to Guild Wars 2, x number of players start in a shared world and have the opportunity to meet and develop relationships but have this shared world be limited in size, look vastly different than the swamp, forest, desert motif so it's not so "samey" and there players are able to setup either a single player or cooperative player home base (or go to a solo world of their own) which they can then venture from into other new and varied worlds (looking much different than their base world). No harvesting in the base world, no creature fighting or anything there, just a quick loading base to call home and possibly in a shared world with a few other base slots. There you could have the opportunity to interact with other players and where the npcs then can send you on quests, maybe tell you to go to specific realms, fight such and such creatures, or explore whatever and work on crafting and upgrading tiers, etc. Harvest the items out there in the other realms and use that new Peyps network to get materials back. BUT, it needs more than just crafting and upgrading as it's focus.
finally i found a good and relative new review of this game. i'm not sure if i would like the game and 2hours isnt enough to see if u like and refund if not. big con is the big amount different and not so materials/resources you mentioned. but the world and gameplay looks interesting and fun. i'll give it a try. tanks you for the review
Servers Hosted by Devs is a Con. 850 Players right now and it looks like they run out of money sooner or later. Servers Down, Goodbye Game. Im shocked what the Game turned out, it looked so promising in the first Trailers.
Not sure if it's just me, but that game is a loading screen festival. IE : 2+min to get the the realm where I left the game at the end of the last session, 2+min to get to my respite, 1min to open the portal back to the same realm during which I empty my inventory and 2+min to get into that realm. So between 5 to 10 min to get playing ^^ PC specs are up to date, so are drivers and internet connection. I really hope they'll fix that in the future as the core game loop is really fun.
Just bought the game, it is gorgeous and now single player. I love this

You need to post more often man! There's a lot to cover with the new Icarus Laika update!
Great review, thanks for giving us a clear overview of the game!

How about you do an update to your Scrap Mechanic video, about how it's abandoned?

I was looking at this game because I read Fae and I love Changeling: The Dreaming so much. it's nice to see a fellow Changeling player

IMO, con: 1st person. I really don't like not seeing my character unless it's a walking sim.
badly timed video, they released 0.3 update with offline mode and updates to the crafting system and much more.

Not watched the video but the short answer is: No.
Not until they fix performance... And everything else.
Shitty ass games being released nowadays.
The game is garbage... they didn't listen to us during beta testing. Also, where the hell have you been? Welcome back?
