Just wanted to say that this is the most accurate review of this game I have seen. No hype; no trolling; just accurate, well articulated descriptions. Good job. And I agree, this is in my top 5 4X games I have played in my life.
One of the worst games I've played in my life, complete nonsense, but hey it's just my opinion. I just regret having thrown away 50 bucks. I hope other people will be able to enjoy it.
Looking at your review I was almost sold... Until I saw that they game the overpowered flanking mechanics that made me not play AoE3 AT ALL. (Thus felt I've wasted my money on that title, AoW1 and AoW2 were much better than 3, imho). BUT --- You played it. Is the flanking mechanic much better balanced in that one? I'm asking because AoW3 devolved into how many flanking can I force against an enemy unit. Meaning I attack it from the west and flank it, it turns to face me, then I can FLANK IT AGAIN from the north this time, again for double damage. And since the unit always turned to face the new attacker, you could flank as much as you want... Very poor strategy balance for a so called strategy game, what a cheesy mechanic that was in AoW3. So, is that fixed in AoW4? If so, I'll probably buy that game. If not, I'm going to pass this time.

AoW 4 is definitely one of the few very good games in 2023 thus far.
