    It helps us Americans remember all the words. It also says so much about us and how we are brainwashed by only being taught a history that compliments America.
    Our sports have, "world series" titles, but; (Americans only need apply).
    We have won all known wars.
    Everywhere, wishes they were us.

      Yes. I've traveled extensively as a military contractor with my job. That is why I understand just how much brainwashing is so heavily practised in the USA! Of course there are many worse places to live, but misdirection does not dismiss what happens here to cement the beliefs that America is so much better than elsewhere.
      I belive the statistic is that only 28% of Americans possess a passport, but many will happily give opinions on other countries, but ignore facts.
      The USA is certainly a geographically beautiful place though.

      I think it's more of an amalgamation, though. And probably more a parody of the popular image of Springsteen than his actual musical output. The look is Springsteen, but the sound is someone else - not sure who, because out of that mix I only listen to Springsteen. :D
      (Also, before someone misconstrues my comment, I'm not American, and not offended. Just a bit puzzled by the fact the music doesn't _quite_ go with the look...)

    • @roguishpaladin
      @roguishpaladin 4 года назад +4

      The look is Springsteen, but if you think Springsteen is actually a slogan-singing drone, you've got to listen to him more closely. Born to Run and Dancing in the Dark cover the desperation of feeling trapped in an industrial system. Born in the USA is very much a criticism of the Vietnam War and how the US treated the war and the vets who fought in the war. There is a drive in his songs to go and do better for yourself, but while his setting is American the feelings aren't painted as such. His work can be closely compared to pre-Brothers in Arms Dire Straits (especially Industrial Disease and Telegraph Road), and in fact Jimmy Iovine did production work for both.

      @@Dogtles That wasn’t patriotism, it was rabid tribalism with a cult mentality.

    LOL, I found this very catchy and now I have to check myself lest I sing it out loud while walking on the streets. Bruce Springsteen would love this parody! (If I'm not wrong, it's Bruce Springsteen who's being parodied?)

    • @definitelyhexed

      its not. It's a parody of AMERICANS.

    • @ptroinks
      @ptroinks 7 лет назад +3

      That's how I interpreted it. Just a song about americans being full of themselves. It seems nothing has changed in that regard since this song was written :D.

      Hmmm, I don't think a song with only about three words can be thought of in depth! It was 1989, so not long after the big slew of big patriotic stadium songs and their singers, of which Hugh Laurie himself is parodying. vijucat is right, it'll be Bruce Springsteen with a bit of Billy Joel/John Mellencamp etc.

      Bruce Springsteen for the look, someone else entirely for the sound/lyrics. (Bruce Sprigsteen's one big 80s patriotic song is A) rock, not this sort of piano-accompanied saccharinity, B) actually very bitter.)

      It strikes me more as Billy Joel. Springsteen can be critical of his own country and probably has a sense of humour.

    What a riot! :-) I wonder what his 'adopted' 2nd home think of this, eh America?! The man is a master of comedy & of musical composition. I remember first seeing him on 'A Bit of Fry & Laurie' & marvelling that he not only really !could! play the piano but that he also played it so well!
