    I agree with you. I was just thinking this same thing the other day. I’ve replaced my old 2011 MacBook Pro with a 4th Gen 12.9 iPad Pro. when I did, I got a pretty good case from Logitech. I didn’t really love the combination. When I saw the magic keyboard on sale on Amazon, I just bought it. Boy, when I did, I feel like my iPad became more of a replacement for my old MacBook. Everything you talked about. The keys, the hinge, the viewing angles. When I wanted to show someone a picture, I could just lift the iPad off the case and then snap it back so easy. It is truly a GREAT device and has made my iPad that much better.

    After I had my ipad without the Magic Keyboard for about half a year, I decided to go ahead and get it. It truly does transform the iPad experience and brings it to a whole new level, and this keyboard has a way better typing experience than my 12" MacBook from 2016, and its way easier to replace in the event of an accident or damage. This combo has truly become one of my favorite product offerings from Apple to date

    You are correct in saying that it does change the nature of iPad usage. I ended up choosing the iPad Air over getting a MacBook Air to replace an older Air that essentially died. The price of the Magic Keyboard did bother me at first as I bought a Brydge keyboard but I ended up getting the Magic Keyboard and I love it. I love how thin it is as a case as well as how it takes advantage of the connectors on the back of the iPad. The instant connectivity is a deciding factor over the Brydge Keyboard as the latter uses Bluetooth. My only complaint about it is that I wish they’d added peripheral usage of the keyboard’s power port.

    Just bought the MK for the 11 inch iPad Pro 2022. It is SO essential, that I use my iPad much much more, it’s just more usable. Couldn’t recommend more, except the price tag problem, ofc. And I wrote that comment with the MK. Fantastic.

    I tell people that if you're going to get the iPad Pro, just factor in the price of the keyboard when you go to buy it because it's that much of a game changer.
    Since getting the magic keyboard, it's absolutely changed the way I think about and use the iPad for the better. It's even the perfect stand when you just want to watch movies and not physically hold something for 2 hours. It's perfect for when you game with a controller. It feels the closest to an true laptop experience we've ever gotten on a tablet, ever.

    Eventually I went with the folio for my 12.9. I was very tempted to get this magic keyboard, but it's so heavy and inconvinent to dismount it to use it as a tablet, I found the smart keyboard folio is more suitable if you use the iPad as a tablet more often.

    Hey man. I just started using the iPad with the white keyboard. In my everyday work, it actually replaced most of the features that I relied on my MacBook for except for Final Cut Pro. As far as fingerprints on the white one, I haven’t seen any issues with smudges or discoloration. Coming from the screen keyboard of the 9.7 model, the 11” model has been a really impressive upgrade.

    Only big hope is that they hold onto this design for a while longer. Would be amazing to continue to use an accessory like this across generations. The updated 2018 design still looks like it’s from the future.

    Have a black Magic for my 12.9 M1 Pro. Love it, use it in my lap all the time. My issue is the front corner edges of the keyboard is splitting with care and not carried in a bag. I have decided to wait until it gets really bad before replacing it-and I will. I love using it and use Pro almost 100% now instead of Macbook.

    What I like about this keyboard is by being supported in the air it’s better for cooling. Air flow to keep the device cool. And spills. If the iPad sits on the surface and something is knocked over. You run the risk of it getting on your iPad. Yes the keyboard is what may get wet. And yes it’s not cheap to replace. But it’s cheaper than replacing the IPad

    If you still have your 11” M1 iPad Pro, any chance you could do a video comparing the Logitech Combo Touch to the Folio Touch? The Folio Touch is technically not meant for this newest generation 11” Pro, and the speakers don’t align perfectly, but I’m curious if there is anything else noteworthy beyond that, and if they partial covering of the speakers makes a noticeable difference.

  • @heastin92532
    @heastin92532 3 года назад +4

    When the case first came out, I was against purchasing one due to price and the fact that I didn’t think that it added any functionality that wasn’t already part of the iPad itself. However, after much curiosity and not finding any alternatives that I was completely happy with I bought one, however the one I bought was the 1st generation and for $199 at Walmart.
    The Magic keyboard case is the case I continue to come back to. I have other smart cases that don’t have a keyboard with it, but again I continue to come back to the Magic Keyboard because of the added experience it adds to the iPad and the variety of viewing angles and the fact that I can use all of my dongles with the iPad without any issue.

    Magic keyboard (ESP white) is always nice to have and beautiful. But with this price tag, I expect no compromise (losing Apple Pencil, can’t protect the side of the ipad) and longevity (the material don’t stick finger print as much)
    I decided to buy the Logitech Folio touch one year ago instead because the size of the trackpad and palm rest are both bigger than the magic keyboard and it has the function key row. The only down side is the keypad can’t detach (solved by the combo touch) and difficult to take off when I don’t need the keyboard and its weight.

  • @ThomasEJohnson
    @ThomasEJohnson 2 года назад

    Give the ESR Rebound Magnetic Keyboard Case for the 12.9” iPad Pro’s a try. It’s Bluetooth and 1/3 the price of the Magic Keyboard, but has some nice features that the Magic Keyboard doesn’t have and the trackpad supports all the gesture controls.

  • @milehighed52801
    @milehighed52801 3 года назад +7

    Hey Gary! I agree with most of what you said, especially on the keyboard feel and build quality. However, there are a few downsides/shortcomings, which some you pointed out. For the money Apple could have tried to incorporate the Thunderbolt functionality in the keyboard port, but its likely a shortcoming of those pass through connectors. The palm rests and touchpad should have been larger. Then, there’s the missing row of function keys. It could have more protection, especially around the sides/edges. One other minor issue is that the screen should have been able to tilt back a little further, but that would make it easier to flip over on the floor if you are using it in your lap. No, this keyboard does not make the iPad Pro a notebook replacement, but a notebook alternative to compliment your MacBook.

      Also the weight. It's too heavy; combined with the iPad Pro itself, it weighs more than a comparable MacBook laptop.

    • @milehighed52801
      @milehighed52801 2 года назад +1

      @@michaelfox6820 Agreed. I returned the iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard. I love my M1 MBA that I just bought in December for a steal at Costco. Don’t need wireless connection, the screen is fine and balances better on your lap. Also, it has better battery life than the iPad Pro and a full row of function keys. I got mine in Space Gray which looks great with the black keys. No white bezel crap and teenage girl colors for me. I would have liked having the MagSafe connector like on my older MacBooks. But the iPad Pro doesn’t have that either. For the price I bought the M1 MBA for, I’m happy.

    The aluminum version of the Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro (2018 onwards) and iPad Air (2020 onwards) might feature the larger trackpad (a larger 12.9-inch version will have the same trackpad size as the 13-inch MacBook Air and 14-inch MacBook Pro) with force touch technology (up to 2 levels of pressure sensitive input) and taptic feedback (used in the MacBook models since 2015). It will be available early next year.

    I wouldn’t have believed you if I hadn’t found myself needing a mouse I can use to scroll with in the M1 iPad Pro 11”. I already had a black Magic Keyboard with the numerical option and I had a regular Magic Mouse. I found that I couldn’t scroll with a Magic Mouse in this iPad. Do you know if you can scroll and do all the same gestures with a Magic Trackpad? I had to unfortunately splurge on this 11” Magic Keyboard because I didn’t want to risk just buying the Magic Trackpad separately and then find out it still doesn’t work either. Please help 🙏🏼

    I have a 12.9 iPad Pro. I was using the ZAGG case and starring getting a vertical line on one side of my iPad. It was happening every day and sometimes twice a day. I took it to the Apple Store. The rep said it looked like an interference with a magnet. She suggested the Pro Magic keyboard. I said they both use magnetic but she said that the Pro Magic was specifically designed for the iPad. I don’t know if that’s true but I bought one. That’s been several weeks ago no I’ve not had an issue since. I do love the keyboard! However, is there a way to keep or allow the on screen keyboard to pop up every time it’s needed without me having to do it. It did that on my ZAGG. Just asking.

    Kindly let me know, how to keep the Magickeyboard white clean ? . Whole day when I keep typing, i feel worried on my fingers sweat etc coming in contact with it. Do you recommend any special cloth or cleaning spray for it ? . Or is it fine to just clean it with a clean cloth ? Please let me know.

    Once again pumping out efficient yet enjoyably watchable content! I have a quick question: would you recommend the M1 MacBook Air with 16 GBs of UM/RAM for college? I’m an undecided Major but all of my majors have a large amount of math. Thanks if you see this, no problem if you don’t!

    something i’ve noticed: the 11 inch is more of an actual notebook and note paper size, while the 12.9 is more of a typical 11x8.5 blank paper size

    Minor Dislike: It’s top heavy. Sometimes this makes it a little difficult to balance on my lap or other circumstances when it is not on a table. But, this problem would be difficult, or impossible, to avoid without adding a lot of weight to the keyboard.

      Thats a good point, and i find the 12.9 much more top heavy than the 11inch model.

      NONONONO sorry late comment and you were asking the every dad but i need to tell everyone this. After i got the keyboard I put it in my backpack everyday and within few months there is a bunch of tears in my keyboard the plastic worn off and it looks so cheap and ugly I absolutely dont recommend it especially if you have other objects in your backpack (best you have an ipad case bag ( a tiny bag specific for your ipad) and then put it inside your backpack (i wish i knew this earlier 😭

    One year after you made this video - I could not agree more with the expanded capabilities - your word transformative that this keyboard brings. The reason a year later - I am finally into iPads because Davinci Resolve is now on the iPad and that has opened up my use of it. Finally a real pro app on an iPad Pro - the only thing that goes into my now open port is an external SSD that contains my work project files. The feel, the functionality, and expansion of possibilities are being realized in this humble device. Touch, pen, trackpad, mouse, short cuts, voice - so many ways to interact - more than anything is amazing. Thanks again.

      I’ll be honest, the way it protects my iPad, and the stand on the back, and it’s perceived ruggedness. The Apple Magic keyboard experience honestly isn’t good enough to make up for that.
      If you use your iPad caseless in general, maybe the magic keyboard, but a paranoid person like me I want the sides protected.
