So on the topic of why Silver Surfer tells people about Galactus, I always assumed that *wasn't* part of his job. He does that so that, if the species has interstellar capabilities they can escape before Galactus arrives. Norrin is incredibly empathetic, and would likely want to save as many people as possible without directly betraying Galactus, as that would doom Zenn-La.
Yeah that about sums it up.
The idea that he's hoping that one day Galactus will come across a planet strong enough to kill him and he warns them to give them time to prepare is actually pretty neat. You can totally imagine Galactus in his ego just assuming he's going to tell people how big and scary he is. I think it gives the Silver Surfer a bit more agency which is nice.
So we aren't explicitly told that's why he is doing it.
At one point, the lore was that Surfer was trying to find uninhabited planets for him, but G is hungry and in a hurry when they come across Earth.

My assumption was always that the Surfer announces the arrival of Galactus to give sentients a chance to leave. Galactus is looking to eat the planet, plus or minus a few thousand bipeds doesn't matter to him.
Correct. It's the planet itself, not the ones who live on it. So they do it as a matter of mercy.
So now will Galactus specifically be eating Celestial eggs? Planets which require civilisation to get to a certain point, so there will ALWAYS be collateral?

I just don’t want them to rush into Galactus and Silver Surfer this early, that’s my issue. I was kinda hoping this first movie would do like Mole Man and Giganto with some Doom setup for the sequel

Sure she was great! Thing is, like Inhumans, I bet they act like it didn’t even happen. Or if they acknowledge it, it’ll be like Dr Strange 2 where we’re familiar with the character (Black Bolt) in passing but they don’t really connect it. Who knows…? In our reality the heralds serve a narrative purpose because it's more interesting of you know an apocalypse is coming so you can try and stop it. In the marvel reality the heralds give species a chance to mass evacuate(like the skrulls did) because it's not the life on the planet that galactus is meant to destroy but the celestial eggs at the center of all planets.
Someone should tell Galactus it's not healthy to eat eggs every day. 🤔 Then again, maybe he just needs his celestial protein and iron.

They also turned Shalla-Bal into a female Silver Surfer for a single issue in Earth X before dying in battle. I think they could do something like that where both of them are Silver Surfers in the movie, or Shalla-Bal took Norrin's place out of love. Could potentially end with one of them sacrificing themselves for Earth, and the other going on as an enemy of Galactus.

I think you underestimate how much ppl actually like the silver surfer. He's arguably more popular than F4 and we've seen a good surfer. It would be a distracting change. With how shallow the fantastic 4 rouges gallery is and how most of them aren't popular at all it makes more sense to genderbend someone who isn't so well known as they'll have more flexibility with the character.

When the rumor surfaced about Anya Taylor-Joy joining the Fantastic Four cast, I initially felt disappointed as I admired her portrayal of Magik. However, I imagined her as Valeria Richards. Considering Pedro Pascal's casting as Mr. Fantastic, it's noteworthy that at least half of the Richards´ family now has Latin representation
i mean realistically if pascal is latin and mr fantastic then obviously they’ll look to cast young latin actors as his children lol. i do think she’s beyond the level of playing a child to a MCU superhero, she’s like a star now

I think she’d be a lot better as a Mad Thinker. I think it’s too quick to pull out Galactus this early, and the female Mad Thinker from Ultimate comics would be super compelling in her hands. If I were having my cake, I’d have her as Mad Thinker, calculating the odds of Earth’s survival in the background of the plot to prepare for Galactus in the post-credits scene, thereby alerting Reed and Sue to the danger.
Plus, Norris Radd is my favorite super hero, in Marvel or DC. I’d kill to have a comic book-accurate version in cinema (but, you know, in a good movie this time).

Silver Surfer finds planets for Galactus because it takes so much energy for him to travel the universe searching for planets that can actually properly fuel him. But yeah, him announcing Galactus is coming kind of doesn't make sense

In terms of heralds of Galactis... What about the Ultimate version of Moondragon? I could see them incorporating a version of her, perhaps blending with 616's origin where she's actually actually Drax's daughter (not the daughter of the man whose soul became Drax) and she survived, and could even reunite with him. We do have Phylla-Vell now after all, so it's not entirely unplausible of a rewrite

It seems weird to me to do female Silver Surfer for a few reasons.
1. You could replace Norrin with Juno and be 100% comic accurate, but then you're talking a niche character and making them even more niche, not using the most popular version of the character. Kinda like if the first time we saw Spiderman it was Ben Rielly, it would be kinda weird.
2. You could make Norrin Radd female, but then you're changing the source material, which hasn't worked great sometimes like in Thor 4 and Iron Man 3. Other times it has worked out, but current Marvel seems less likely to deliver a billion dollar hit right now.
I get the desire to have more female characters in FF, but I just don't think this is the best way to do it, mind you I don't know another way we could do it

as far as female villains from FF, there was Malice The Mistress of Hate from the 1980s and the 1990s. I think she got exposed to The Hate Monger and she ended wearing that really revealing outfit and the spike mask. It was a two part story that took place during the events of Secret Wars 2, where The Beyonder came to Earth and was wearing that disco suit. Also the part 2 of that story is the issue where there's that panel where Reed Richards smacks Sue Storm in the face. This was to get her to snap out of the Hate Monger's control.

but yeah, I honestly didn't really realize the FF has very little in the way of female bad guys. At least from the blocks of comics that I've read. The only other one I can think of aside from a small bit of villainy from Lyja the Lazerfist when she returned, the Skrull Empress Veranke was indirectly a bad guy of the Fantastic Four when Paibok the Powerskrull captured the team in the 90s.
I would love if the MCU broke continuity and just started making movies based on the comics. Just pull in characters from Marvel and make movies. No timelines, no Disney plus connectivity just great movies using characters in marvel lore.

Agree that they shouldn't use Frankie because she is just Human Torch. But in the Silver Surfer cartoon, she had a different origin that she just got her powers from th e power cosmic, no pre-existing powers.

Heralds - Galactus started with Silver Surfer, but they were too compassionate and betrayed Galactus, which is why Silver Surfer was bound to the Earth for many years.
Galactus still liked the 'someone else hunting for for me' gig, but wanted someone less compassionate who wouldn't care how many people were killed so Terrax, former brutal dictator, was chosen. Terrax betrayed Galactus for power.
There's a general theme that reach time someone is turned into a herald either the process or just the massive amount of power they are given seems to accentuate some inner trait.

Norrin Radd pleaded for his planet to be spared. Galactus was moved by his argument and made a deal. Norrin Radd leaves with Galactus to scout out planets. Galactus doesn't have to spend time searching for planets that have sufficient life and Norrin has the opportunity to suggest planets that have life but not major civilizations.
So Galactus said, 'hey, I see where you're coming from about not genociding civilizations, but if you want to prove how dedicated you are to that, leave your planet, never come back and *you* pick out planets from now on.'

The thing with Heralds is that even in real life, things that aren't super practical still appear in cultures around the world, so its not out of the ordinary to have this almost religious ceremony of announcing the arrival of Galactus

I have no distinct affinity for the Fantastic Four nor for any non-Doctor Doom villain, I’m just here because I like your videos and “scoops”. Have been since the “X isn’t X” videos however long ago.
If I were trying to align the pieces laid out in a way that works here, it would be a neat throwback to have the original Human Torch be Frankie Raye; after the Synthesizer didn’t work the chemicals still got on her (or some other origin), she had a brief superhero stint in that relatively untouched period in the 50s/60s, then Galactus showed up and her gambit of “I’ll find a better planet for you” talks him down. Then Galactus comes back around when she or loses her humanity from all her time as some higher being. That gives an organic prompt for Johnny Storm to be called “The Human Torch” and preserves him as a legacy character-he’s written in with a previous version.
If it’s a motive of “she lost her humanity” then it also gives a prompt for a more emotion/reason based solution, since that’s more the FF’s schtick than just brute force hitting the bad guy until they can’t be bad anymore. If they go another direction with it, I’m not too bothered by it either. It’s not like the other versions of the character just cease to be when they get adapted some other way. Feel free to ratio me to hell if what I said seems dumb.
As much as I think using Ana Taylor Joy as anyone but Magik is a shame, I would much rather see them use her as the black swan from time runs out/secret wars and keep in line with what's going on in this phase. Idk why they're bringing in Galactus this early, especially if they're going to be rebooting the MCU, it just seems somewhat out of place with the rest of the theme of phase 4&5 to go with him instead of someone like the Molecule Man Owen Reece who plays a direct role in both the Shooter and Hickman versions of secret wars
Let's just make him gold and give him a jetski while we're at it.
I feel like doing a Planet-Level threat for the F4 movie, when theyre already setting up incursions & multiversal threats in everything else kind of diminishes the threat of galactus since the "world-ending threat" stories are already getting over saturated. I think doing something like the Frightful Four for the 1st movie would be a lot more interesting since they could all be good foils for the 4 individually and as a team. They could serve to help show what makes this incarnation of the F4 special & since they dont have the same powers as the 4, itd also make for fun & unique match-ups throughout the film

She's most likely playing Frankie Raye not SS. That would make more sense, her dormant powers are activated by Johnny Storm.
As far as female characters go - I just hope we eventually get Valeria, her relationship with Doom is one of my favourite parts of the Fantastic Four - and seeing exchanges like:
"Can we go get ice cream later?" - Valeria
"Doom will consider your request" - Doom
Or
"i was a God, Valeria." - Doom
"And?" - Valeria
"I found it...beneath me." - Doom
Would be so amazing, just make Hickman's whole run the template for the films 🤷♂️

I think this was mostly via The Lady Liberators. And some bonus stories in the recent She-Hulk books where She-Hulk hosted a book club with a few friends.
But I think you could have a point there with maybe a Sue Storm slice of life type comic could be an interesting type angle. I know that's what I've been seeing with this current run of She-Hulk books.

She was pretending to be Alicia Masters after the events of Secret Wars. Married Johnny.
Puppet Master figured something was off. Told The Thing. Revealed it to the FF.
it was part of this plan of The Skrulls to get some intel and infiltrate the FF without breaking their budget to make another Super Skrull.
so they went cheap and got somebody who was close to the FF who didn't have any super powers. So, that's why she was Alicia Masters.
She died on their rescue mission to save the original Alicia Masters.
But she came back a few years later and joined this small villain group that attacked Johnny Storm at Empire State University. made him end up going supernova and burning down the campus.
She rejoined the FF for a while due to some difficulties they were having at the time.
I think she was with the FF in the 90s until the Onslaught Saga. Wasn't there for Heroes Reborn.
She's had a few appearances since then: Secret Invasion, Future Foundation, also she was a part of this MC2 line that was called Fantastic Five. No idea how that was as a book. Have yet to read that. I just saw that Spider-Girl had a run in with them.

I thought a hearld's job was more along the lines of scouting for planets, seeing if they had the right nutrient levels that Galactus needs to sustain himself. And then marking that planet as suitable for consumption. And then Galactus comes to eat it.

The main reason he decided to save Earth is because of Susan Storm reminds him of his wife.

What if Magik is the herald?
No that would be an interesting twist, Galactus saving her when she arrives in that universe.
I think there's no good reason to gender-swap Silver Surfer if Sue Storm is the focus of the team (which I think is a good thing considering that even many comic book fans aren't aware of just how powerful she is, and I can see huge potential to simultaneously give a middle finger to some of her more misogynistic writers of the past and fill some of the space of a moral anchor that Captain America left vacant).
Let’s also not step over Surfer’s crucial race neutrality to reach for a far less prominent gender neutrality. He has a masculine physique as Silver Surfer. Norrin Radd presented male in his origin, even if you prefer to neuter the herald. If it were remotely acceptable to depict the nude form in commercial media, the artists might have drawn him with genitals. More importantly than any of that, though, he’s a character that many young men of color who struggled to find themselves represented in the hierarchy of Marvel’s most powerful and intriguing characters, especially on the cosmic side of things, were able to project themselves onto. I think that’s a facet of Silver Surfer that has been more meaningful to many fans of the character than his conceivable gender neutrality (which frankly is an idea I've never seen emphasized or hinted at by fans or writers).
I’m not in the “FemCU bad” camp. I even like the idea of art having an agenda both in the final product and in the process. I just think at this point in Marvel’s trajectory, maybe we should take a step back and err on the side just making a good movie that elevates the comic legacy to cinematic scale.

Just change her name. Firelord is another herald with fire powers, call her Firelord. Heck, even Firestar, since Angelica is probably safe to ignore. Or if you don't want to go with another character's name, then... I don't know, the Greater Torch.
I like Frankie mostly as a Silver Surfer supporting character. They have this weird sometimes-romantic friendship, and although they should usually be on opposite sides (since she works for Galactus after he leaves), they still tend to work together. It's really sweet.
I think Anya will play Nova, considering how, before becoming Galactus Herald, Frankie was Johnny's girlfriend, which could play a role in his arc, showing how Johnny, despite being a ladies man who never seems to be worry about life, truly cares for the girls he dates and wants to have serious relationship, to marry nad have kids like his sister was able to do with Reed.
I could see that. It would be a good way to get Johnny (who often gets the least attention in the FF) an interesting story.
One of the reasons why there's a lack of female villains in FF< is that Stan Lee had trouble writing woman. Most of the femme characters were shipped over from the Romance genre. Read Sue/ Pepper's/ Jean's dialogue/ thought bubbles Yeesh!! Straight out of All My Children. Geesh!!

Can't help but wonder if the F4 are going to be multiversal exploreres that get lost into the MCU. Maybe they've met Norrin before but they aren't expecting the Surfer to be Shalla-Bal this time.
A human torch versus a human torch would be confusing for most audiences.
Yet audiences watched 2 movies with more than 1 Spider-Man just fine.
I think that it will make sense that it's female, according also to the rumors that say that this movie takes place on an alternate universe so this is not the main timeline
I can see how a Frankie may Johnny storm romance could be an interesting subplot similar to like pepper and tony with an evil twist. Maybe galactus needs a new herald after the loss of a former herald like one of those other four. So you set it up as if the heralds are a necessary part of galactus’ whole eating planets thing. Then the fantastic four are doing their thing and they beat the first herald. Meanwhile, Johnny and Frankie are starting to date, maybe she even helps fight the first one. And he steals her afterwards to her prowess. The 4 fight her and she dies leading to galactus picking the silver surfer. I still want Keanu Reeves to have the opportunity to play the silver surfer. This also gives a legitimate reason as to why galactus just leaves earth. I’ve never understood how they just make him leave

If the rumour is true that the Fantastic Four film takes place in a different universe before they transition into the main timeline, then a female Silver Surfer makes no difference anyway regardless of anyone’s gripes.
You can still have a traditional Silver Surfer, and do a unique take on the character in a “tangent” universe
That may be true but fact of the matter is nobody asked for it . Everyone wants Norin Rad why can't we just get what we're asking for? I'd feel better if they're gender swapping SS for a better story but we all know they're doing it for inclusivity which is the wrong reason because women typically don't watch superhero movies.

In an infinite multiverse there's always a chance the planet (a living planet?) is a danger to Galactus and sending the heralds serves as both an offensive and defensive strategy.

Honestly ive not really been a fan of the casting for certain characters recently but I like this choice and i think her vibe/voice suits Silver Surfer well.
I think about Medusa being a Villain just as much as the silver surfer. Really quickly after their introduction they become heroes.
Anya Taylor Joy is a great actress, ive got faith she'll do a good job with whatever they give her. Is a shame that her Magik character likely wont come back though. Nevertheless happy that she got the silver surfer role!

My question is: did Eternals kind of ruin Galactus? The reason he goes after planets is to consume the celestial eggs, right? But in Eternals they already woke the celestials and then Sersi kinda froze them. So does Galactus even have a reason to come for Earth anymore? Are there more celestial eggs in the earth? Once upon a time it was an event when marvel movies dropped, but now they’d be lucky if I find the time to stream them for free. Race and gender swap characters are horrible altogether, but in what universe does it make sense to introduce the alternative rather than the staple character?!? Exactly. Im tired of the race swapping and gender bending. And Im a black man. Both of those tactics i just mentioned did not help The Marvels with DarBenn. I want to see these characters jump off the page as they were created. Im just tired of this crap. Marvel is really losing me now as a fan. Galactus makes sense for a fantastic four movie, but I feel it's way too early to use him. Galactus feels like an Avengers level threat. We'll see how it turns out.
The only female Fantastic Four villain I can think of (that wasn't a temporary heel turn like Medusa or Malice/Sue Storm) is Victorious, Dr. Doom's right hand in the early Slott run?

not sure i agree with you on the gender swap for Norrin Rad. Mostly just worries me for more fuel to the anti-Marvel fire they've been dealing with lately. The androgynous idea could maybe work.
Right near the end of this video I think you dropped an interesting angle and take I think they could go with for that Juno Surfer.
Like maybe due to Gor the Godbutcher having massacred most of the the gods recently and Zeus sending Hercules out, maybe Juno could also be some kind of figure whose out there. And for some reason maybe has some reason needs to join Galactus to get something she's after. And somehow that leads her to Earth and fighting the FF. Although I could see a problem with this, if they end up taking out Juno, that makes any instance in the event they want to use Norrin Rad, kind of redundant or something. Mostly becasue i'm going with the idea that most Marvel villains are one and dones, rarely staying around. With maybe a small handful of exceptions.
I agree Anya Taylor joy is a great actress, I think I liked her in The Menu.
