GAS - The Image of the Forest / a short documentary

- In this short documentary I explore the music of Wolfgang Voigt's GAS project, a kind of ambient techno inherently connected to the visual of the forest. Special thanks to my patrons - without their support this project would not have been possible.

Oliver J - Producer, director, presenter, co-editor.

in like 3 months fantano is gonna have a video walking around Compton or some shit called "Kendrick Lamar - The Image of the Maad City / a short documentary"
And I'm gonna watch it
i'd watch that, but only if Oliver makes a cameo
Fuck melon guy at this point, deep cuts is my personal top tier in case of music channels and honestly, I expected that loooooong time ago.
I'd settle for the return of that is the plan. Best teeth!
Jajaj
I remember when I first heard GAS years ago. It was one of those rare moments when listening to an artist when I thought that this is music I've been waiting my whole life for.
Oliver makes me want to make music just so I could hear him talk about it and describe it back to me.
this makes me more interested in gas than any guide or review would
Sometimes the internet is such a nice place.
Floura10 but you have to search for the gems :) and then hit the ”subscribe” buttom
Fav. Wolfgang project
Toby and yourself really hit it out of the park visually here (and as always you kept me interested from start to finish), so happy to be part of the Patrons helping you to usher in this new era of Deep Cuts - I cant wait to see more ❤️
Incredible! This exceeded my already high expectations. Thanks so much for the effort you put in to this. :)
green planet, a third sequel to "blue planet" coming to your television soon - soundtrack by gas, thom yorke and hans zimmer
host - oliver from deep cuts
Wow. I'm in!
Hey Serg. Long time, no see. Good idea btw xD
hey lie! thak you ahaha, still following and watching your videos! hope you are doing well
My GAS boxset just arrived today. This couldn't have been better timing 👌👌
jealous !
goddammit, my fav dc vid ever already, i love you oliver for this
Amen
On more than one occasion I've wandered into my local forest, not knowing where I am going at 3 AM in the darkness with Voigt's music pulsing through my headphones. Most of the time I would play Zauberberg (which totally fitted the moment, bats would fly at me erratically in the blackness which would freak me out, hence the 4/4 beat was in sync with my pounding heartbeat and the dark swirling ethereal sounds were apt too) Königsforst (especially track 5) and Rausch went well with the night excursions too. His music and the forest compliment each so fucking well, it's like a perfect marriage.
Wild it could be a couple activity
Pop, Zauberberg, and Konigsforst are amongst my favourite albums ever. Utterly engrossing and beautiful.
Oliver, it would be perfect to see you doing some sort of music journalism documentary series on a streaming service such as Netflix
I remember back in 2003, I bought Zauberberg -- in one of my "halcyon days" -- and ambient was born in my brain.
The Question "How many ants are there in this forest?" is the reason I love this channel so much.
Oliver is TRUELY one of the great minds of our day. 😌
His music is actually amazing
Love GAS, love Voigt. So glad this channel exists to have people discover these wonderful sounds. Phenomenal work as always Oliver
Olive looking green, just like how it should be
Probably the best video I've watched all year.
Shoutout for Toby and Jake, both did fantastic jobs as well!
One of the best videos I have seen on RUclips, nice exploration in the forest talking about this artist. Please do a longer video on GAS
This made me love Gas even more somehow and gave me a lot better of an understanding of the ideas behind his already amazing material, making it all the more engaging. I honestly can't begin to explain how much i love this style of content man, keep up the great work.
Nothing better than falling asleep to gas 1 then shitting your pants when gas 2 kicks in
Every time you drop a video, i find myself listening to that artist obsessively for the next week or longer
This is stunning and truly beautiful. Thank you for a little ray of sunshine in my dull Monday. Keep it up!
Thank you so much for this beautiful take on this brilliant artist. I think you really did the depth of his catalogue, and the scope of his magnificent compositions justice with this documentary.
Hats off to Toby as well, the visuals are absolutely stunning.
Best review I've ever seen of Wolfgang Voigt's work! gr8
Absolutely loved it! And it made me more excited for future videos on this style. Keep getting better Oliver! Deep Cuts is quickly becoming my favourite RUclips Channel right now
I listen to pop gas on repeat while I study biology. Its the best
this is literally my favorite video on youtube. i'm angry it has only 15 000 views. i still watch it regularly
Same
Wow. As always, awesome job Oli. I'll go listen to GAS right away.
zauberberg 1 is the greatest ambient track of all time
This is beyond awesome Oliver, you are pushing the boundaries of music critique, journalism or what have you.. Thanks!
I just love watching people gush about GAS like I feel, thanks man. The forest stretches out forever when I listen.
Oliver, this is amazing. Please do more of these. There's so much potential here.
This is a great concept. I hope to see more of these vids. One of my favourite uploads of yours for sure!
Secondly Zauberbeg is THE BEST album ever.
i swear to god, i've experience a change on my senses, and i blame this fire crisps/wind or whatever sound that one can hear through the entire album.
One of RUclips’s finest channels. Truly amazing, Oliver.
Great video Oliver, I love the GAS triology and this video was a GREAT introduction to GAS, as well as a treat for the GAS fans. Keep it up!
You well timed wizard! I finally got around to listening to Narkopop last night. Yeah yeah, I'm way behind.
I love it when a video makes me appreciate something I initially didn't like that much
Pop is my favorite ambient album period. Great video 💯💯
get out of here poser
@@ZkaLy6 Lmao
@@richardroberson2564 yeah, i mean, I've written that because it's the only album that is somehow "mainstream" shared by lists of pitchfork for exemple, and it's not that much. So i do think its overrated.
BUT fact is is not the best album. Okay that may be personal.... But no.
Zauberberg is a really strange album (in a good way) in the way that has this creeping rain or fire wood sound through its 1hr &17minu that makes it a "concept" album.... It has this continuity to it....
I've also experienced a different state of mind induced by this album, which no other GAS project albums manage to deliver.
Then I'm not making ranks, but I'm not sure sure if i would put Konigsfort ou POP in "second".
Well done! Thank you for making this.
What a freaking genius I love it. Hopefully you’ll be doing more of these.
Well done Oliver. Absolutely amazing
Waw, this is a very cool new format. Deep Cuts on location. Love it!
So awesome! Can't wait to see what other documentaries you might have in mind
'You can feel the beat beneath your feet as you explore it (the forest)'. That sentence alone has sold me on Gas. Great video, definitely excited to see where this next era of Deep Cuts goes! :)
Great video, love the beautiful scenery and I think you hit the notes of what makes Gas's music so great. Cheers and I hope to see this continue for other artists!
Pop is a masterpiece and so is this short documentary
You should be very proud of your work here! . Grand production quality!
Kudos for doing this Oliver. Lovely.
Nice job on this video Mr. Deep Cuts! I'll definetely have to check out this project.
This was wonderful, fantastic work
It's quite unfortunate how little views this got despite the effort Oliver put into it.
GAS’ music is amazing👍😎
great shit oliver! You've got such a great musical mind, please keep up the good work!
love this channel so much
This was masterful and beautiful. We miss you Oliver
great video, as always. on point analysis
This is a great video. I have been a fan of GAS for few years but it is very interesting to hear the thoughts behind each album. Thanks!
One of your best creations yet! Glad to be able to contribute through Patreon so we can continue to receive great content like this.
(P.S. Königsforst is the best one)
I agree re: Konigsforst ;-)
Good shit. Thanks Oliver!
Why didn’t you play tracks from the albums when talking about them? Gives great example for each
This video is so, so, so good. Amazing work!
💕💕💕absolutely beautiful! well done! 💕💕💕
what a great way to celebrate these masterpieces. you are so good at this. thank you. im planning to play some gas tracks at my easter techno party.
best music channel on youtube hands down, super excited for more
Such a good video, love the format.
Gas pop #4 is my favorite.
Thank you I never knew of this. I will be definitely seeking all of these out.
I'm in the middle of writing an essay on Pop, and what do you know, this shows up in my subscription feed. Great video man!
This is absolutely beautiful
You guys did an amazing job
I adored this and love more cinematic experimental video essays like this. I’d be interested in seeing you do something similarly experimental again.
I ain't gonna lie, I am a HUGE GAS fan, to understate myself. I knew I loved his music since I heard it, but this video actually made me look at the albums in different ways. Thanks alot Oliver and Co.
I love this new format, it really made me interested in GAS. I'd love to see this type of video with other artists in the future :)
One of your best videos 👏
Have you heard any of the albums from the Pop Ambient series which has been going since 2001? It's curated by Wolfgang and usually has at least one track from him either under his real name or as GAS.
if THIS is the first short documentary we get i am really looking forward to any next ones if you are planning on making them
really good debut
Dude, I love your videos!
Really good stuff, Oliver! This is definitely something that RUclips needs more of, and I'd definitely be interested in watching moree of those - maybe even a sort of video essay?
i live close to königsforst! you should visit it some day, it's so easy to understand why he loves it so much- no other forests have fascinated me as much as königsforst does
Konigsfort was the first album that i have listened to... Great album.
Well, I’m hooked. Great video.
Brilliant! Wolfgang Voigt's GAS is genius.
Well that was fantastic
Oliver’s accent has found its rightful place in media
You've really outdone yourself on this one :)
Great work Oliver
Wow. Great work.
Just a amazing video
Great job!
Incredible video!
Well Done!!
This video is awesome
Now i'm really interested on this GAS project
Dude, I've been binge watching your content lately and finding beautiful gems, can't thank you enough. In fact, I'd like to recommend 2 albums which are among my favorites in the genre: Susumu Yokota - The Boy and the Tree and Midori Takada - In Through the Looking Glass. If you're not familiar with these 2 Japanese artists, please check them out, beautiful music! Cheers!
I fucking love you, you fricking madman
What a video!
Please, more amazing, melon-smashing content like this.
