      For me it is toooo slow. Ar 1.25 looks better ) For me Dusty Springfield's is the best

      But Dusty did not have the titanic rhythm section T.Bogert-C.Appice who brought this chanson into something more prog.

      @@crat82 Dusty was known as the white girl soul singer and rightly so. I bought the original Vanilla Fudge vinyl album in London back in the 60s and instantly loved every track with its unique sonic delivery - it's on my personal classic albums of all time list still. However, Dusty's truly soulful rendition of this classic song is so outstanding that if I have to choose in this instance she wins by quite a wide margin. btw I grew up living less than a mile away from where she lived for a while in Ealing, London. I was a young teenager at the time when she was in her twenties. Sadly being a few years younger I never saw or met her. As a young girl she worked for a while in a record, musical instrument and radio/tv shop in Ealing's main shopping area in the record department before her singing career got going.

    An obsessive-compulsant's dream. Done by a group who loves to live in our head. I find this song popping up in my head at least once a year....just beautiful.

    This was actually the first version of this song I ever heard. Back in '69 it was on sale through record Club of America, and I purchased it blindly. Being the true rocker that I am, although I still love the song and consider to be the greatest lyrics I've ever heard in a song, all the 'lightweight' versions leave me wanting this rendition.

    • @FletcherScarborough

      Hi, This is a song that was done by a bunch 5star Pop Stars but the Vanilla Fudge are the only Rockers that took it on and no ones version sounds correct after you listen to this. And you are correct......the Lyrics are unbelievable.

    • @StaciArdmore
      @StaciArdmore Год назад

      @@FletcherScarborough I describe the lyrics like this. It takes the most mundane, tangible everyday items and experiences, and comingles them with the wildest extremes of existential thought.
      Now I'm furious, so I'm going to go in a completely different direction. About a year ago, I added the Vanilla Fudge version to the "Other Versions" section of Wikipedia. That is a standard section in their format when it comes to song.
      They show the Noel Harrison, Dusty Springfield, and Jose Feliciano chart versions. Then other versions, as far as any significance goes , I'll give the whole thing. Johnny Mathis!
      I often say, "Not if I was in the meeting." "Staci, what's your beef"" Neil Diamond, Barbara Streisand, The Ray Conniff Singers, Petula Clark, Andy Williams, (I just ripped the F11 key off my computer, I put in my pantry with my Caps Lock) well I'm pretty sure of those, but thanx to the omission of what's probably the single MOST significant aspect of this song... GONZO. Oh well!

      that's because they don't get trapped in the meter like most versions. they follow the emotion of the lyrics. and the ending is just brilliant.

    I got to see Vanilla Fudge at at small theater in Lincolnshire, IL, 2012. They played the whole first album note for note, Shotgun, Break Song and You Can't Do That. At the end Mark stein was coming from the can to sign autographs. I asked him if he recored this tune in one take. He looked at me and in a very soft voice, said little bits and drabs.
