This is a super underrated film. Leslie Nielsen is a comedic genius and he will be missed. It’s a shame that this would be the last Mel Brooks film he directed due to the film’s failure, but I think it should be right up there with The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs and Robin Hood: Men In Tights as some of his best films.
I caught the movie on TV one night. I laughed like crazy. Really love the scene where Steven Webber’s character Drake the steak into Lucy and is splattered with Blood.”Ugh, this is gustily” Van Helsing “Yes, maybe we should have put some newspapers down”.
@@ZacHawkins42 what are some of his serious movies? Id like to check some of those out. I love his movies but not sure Ive ever seen a movie that he acts serious in.
@@ZacHawkins42 thank you! Ill have to try finding those movies and watching them. Id love to see him in some serious movies and I bet that it is odd not seeing him cracking some jokes.
I love this movie!! I wish more people loved it, too. As a huge horror fan, especially vampire films, I thought this was such a fun and imaginative spoof. It still makes me laugh every time!
This and "Life Stinks" are two Mel Brooks movies that deserve more love. The scene where Dracula inadvertently controls Mina and her maid is old-school hilarious.
Yeees, it's really funny 😂! If you would describe it to someone, it probably would sound silly and not funny at all, but seeing these three in this scene is honestly hilarious 😆!
No It’s tired better than his Robin Hood he got Leslie to do it cause he thought he’d have success like the zuckers did with him in the naked gun but that comedy is faster there’s to many dead spots in this film
I was born in 1988 and this must have been the first Dracula interpretation I saw...it's hard to interpret Dracula any other way that camp spoof parody now 😅I still want to watch every iteration ⚰️⚰️⚰️
Peter MacNicol. In fiction, the trope of a character who is a mind controlled servant of the villain is known as a "Renfield", due to the popularity of Dwight Frye's portrayal in the original film. In an amusing sort of foreshadowing, MacNicol played the Renfield in Ghostbusters II, before playing the actual Renfield here!
Peter MacNicol is one of my favourite after that film! He's so cute and just perfect in his role. Also, I've had a little problem with my hair becoming too long for me, but my mom said I looked like Reinfield and now I'm absolutely satisfied)
I remember my dad and I went to see it Christmas Day 95. My mom was cooking dinner and we kept bugging her for samples, so she kicked us out, so he decided to take us out for a little bit. There were only a few other people in the theater, so it wasn't crowded. All through the movie, my dad would chuckle here and there, but at the part where Renfield tries to help Dracula escape, he lost his shit! Everyone in the theater stared at us. I was so embarrassed, lol!
This movie came out when I was a kid and I remember renting it over and over again. I also used to act out the scene with Peter McNichol and Harvey Corman having tea for my parents and their friends. Now I'm in my mid 30s and own the DVD of which my daughter watches on repeat every Halloween season. Thank you Minty for giving these under rated movies the praise they deserve ♥️
I was, and still am, a fan of Brooks. So were most of my Friends. I also never listen to "Critics" so I really enjoyed it. Critics really do tend to suck the joy out of things...
LOVE this movie...had it on VHS and watched it so many times I could recite pretty much the whole thing (sad right lol). Mel Brooks is nothing short of a comedic genius.
I find it hilarious that last year, "DEAD AND LOVING IT" was the very 1st Dracula film I bought on DVD! I've played it 3 times already, once with the audio commentary-- by Mel, Amy Yasbeck & Stephen Webber, possibly my favorite audio commentary to date. It's my 2ND-favorite Mel Brooks film (right after "YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN"), and I went to see it TWICE when it was in theatres. I knew my Mom would have loved it, as she was a huge fan of Bela Lugosi and his 1931 film, but sadly, she was too sick to go. It amazes me to think that Amy Yasbeck & Lysette Anthony are WAY sexier and far more attractive (to me) than any of the women in the 1931 or 1958 versions. Nobody mentions that the "autopsy" scene was clearly a tribute to the near-identical scene from the pilot episode of "QUINCY, M.E." with Jack Klugman.
One of my favorites. I love the gags and the acting. The costumes are also amazing. And even though it was a comedy, they didn't short change any expenses.
I saw this film when it was first released, and instantly fell in love with it. It still remains one of my top 5 favourite spoofs of all time to this day.
When I first saw it as a teen a lot of the humor flew over my head. I was hoping for a constant fire of gags like Naked Gun or Space Balls which it wasn't. But the movie grew on me. I like it.
I actually like this one more than Spaceballs (by a very narrow margin). Peter McNicol is just too funny, especially coming after his role in Ghostbusters 2.
Yeah, I've never understood the criticism this film received. Peter McNicol was fantastic in his role. The line "My God, what are you doing to the furniture!" cracks me up every time 🤣
I love this movie! A lot of the gags were physical humor, which seems to have fallen by the wayside a bit. I also absolutely adore A Vampire in Brooklyn. It's a darker comedy, in my opinion. Dracula was more of a "poke fun at ALL the vampire things" and Brooklyn was more "how much funny crap can we stuff into a nice dark vampire story?". I love them both.
I love Vampire in Brooklyn. I think people expected a typical Eddie Murphy comedy. But it’s really a vampire movie that happens to have Eddie Murphy in it.
@@grannyweatherwax8005 when I first heard of it, I was concerned for that very reason, I didn't want "Beverly Hills Vampire". Instead I fell in love with this movie.

Yeah, it's hard not to compare "...Dead and Loving It" to "Young Frankenstein". YF sets a seriously high bar, and we humans seem to judge 'similar' items much more harshly when something else 'like it' is perfect.
I remember one top ten list which had this movie listed among the worst vampire films made. Reading the comments it seemed most of those who responded to this movie being on the list disagreed; they loved it. I love it and can't for the life of me think why it's not better regarded. Leslie Nielsen was wonderful in the role, even making Dracula more lovable than villainous, especially when he and Van Helsing get into "The last word" duel saying words no one understands. I also love Dracula's last words "Reinfield, you asshole," brilliant. Peter Mac Nicol was also wonderful as Reinfield and was a great opposite to Leslie Nielsen.
"The scores being reused" really hits a chord (pun intended) with me. The music for "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" was used as the theme for Morgan Creek film company for years. Also it was used for many teasers including "Universals horror movies" during a time.

The really funny part is that Kelsey Grammar actually did a good job as Beast. It's one of the few things people would have wanted to be spared after Days of Future Past.
I'm not certain if it's funny or tragic. Kelsey Grammar might have been the last person I would have chosen to be Beast, but hearing him say "Oh my stars and garters" absolutely sold me on him.
Watching this movie and Young Frankenstein, I usually wonder what the original authors would've thought about the many interpretations of the books they wrote. (I'm especially curious to know what Mary Shelley would think about Rocky Horror Picture Show!)
Well I have not seen every Millbrook movie I did see Dracula dead and Loving It And I think it was a nice spoof of Dracula movies particularly the 1990 Dracula movie with Gary Oldman and the actors who play the characters were fantastic

X-Men Last Stand might have sucked, but Kelsey Grammar was still perfect for Hank McCoy and he did a great job.
I have such fond memories with this one, one of my favorites comedies ever!!!.
With Frankenstein and drakula movies under his belt, we need him to do wolfman and creature from the black lagoon
This was my movie. I love every part and to this day still say chitten.
One of my late dad's contributions to my early education was Police Squad... which got me hooked on Leslie and his charming comedic delivery. The funny thing is that I was too young too fully appreciate the jokes. But to this day I remember laughing madly... thanks Minty.
"I saw nothing! I saw nothing!!...I saw EVERYthing😆😆😆😆" 🤣🤣🤣
@@andrewszigeti2174 yeah, I even feel he did a good job as Hank. Even in The Last Stand. He had the mannerisms
Brillant Brillanf Brillant ...... Movie I Love
It. Thank You So Muçh. 🤗⚘🤗🤗⚘🤗😅🤗⚘
Watching this movie and Young Frankenstein, I usually wonder what the original authors would've thought about the many interpretations of the books they wrote. (I'm especially curious to know what Mary Shelley would think about Rocky Horror Picture Show!)
I woke up thinking I want to watch something on RUclips with a Halloweenish theme. PERFECT 😎👍
This film was highly formative for me and still remains one of my all-time favourite films
Well I have not seen every Millbrook movie I did see Dracula dead and Loving It And I think it was a nice spoof of Dracula movies particularly the 1990 Dracula movie with Gary Oldman and the actors who play the characters were fantastic
One of my favorite Brooks movies. Along with Robin Hood and Spaceballs
