I wish this info was out 5 years ago when i started weight training and had no clue what I was doing. I would watch PhIl Heath and Jay Cutler, they were huge when I watched them, I thought I had to toss around 405 on my squats, I hurt my back and it wasn't worth it. Hearing Rich say lighter weight on certain muscle groups makes total sense. Thanks for the info!
@Real World Warrior lowen not true with certain muscle groups. Did you not hear rich say "I use to put 7 plates on the bar for squats...what a fucking idiot" I know for a fact lightening the weight for groups such as biceps is the only way I have gained size. You make the light weight heavy by doing as many reps as you can suffer.
@Real World Warrior lowen he's not the only one saying it. Huge massive monster man. You should feel good about yourself. It helps to not put others down. Ginordude.
Much respect to these two. People should appreciate the fact they actually care enough to share their knowledge and help educate. These two worked their asses off to get to where they are. Too many people unhappy with their circumstances and always putting negative energy out. Keep that shit to yourself and continue to be miserable. Thanks for the videos guys.
Ric and Rich.....keep up the awesome work! You both have takin my workouts to a new level... Wish one day I had the honor of meeting you both and telling you you have changed my life and inspired me.
Keep up the videos for the likeminded people, the ones who think outside the box and have the guts to do what they want to do rather than what theyre told they should do. You guys motivate us and addressing the haters can only take away from it. Dont give them the satisfaction! Thanks guys.
Reps! Totally agree with going lighter for growth. I did heavy presses for years and now in my 50s my shoulders can tell it. Smaller weights and higher reps are getting me great results. Also agree with shrugs behind the back. Only took me 30 years to figure all this out.
I did traps on the smith machine last week like Rick is talking about and they felt really good. Also Rich is so right about all the guys in the gym going too heavy on shrugs.
Thanks so much for clarifying about the fact that dropping carbs will drop fat. I really needed clarification and to hear that today. It's good to hear this sort of advice from people who LIVE it. Thank you, and keep up the great work Ric!
Small necks has always been a big pet peeve of mine and the first time I have heard someone else talk about it in bodybuilding here. I played football so I always put them in my routines and I think a small neck just looks weak man, made my day to hear them emphasize it.
I just wanna thank you Ric and Rich for all those great videos, really appreciate your efforts! Great to hear people who really know what they`re talking about!!! Greetings from Austria
You guys have it figured out! Spend your whole life working at the image of being the man to the point people pay you to do what you do. My hats off to you guys.
everytime I listen to Rich talk about anything, be it food or a certain exercise. I learn something new. This dude knows his stuff! I wanna be like him one day.
I love how real your shows are. A great break from all the sales pitches and generic info other channels are offering. Rich is a great example of a bodybuilder that is smart and intelligent. The lifestyle and sport needs more like you two.
As usual Ric, great show! I also love the mix of new and old. Having Rich on is always informative. Keep it coming. Looking forward to the next segment.
@@VitalMusic217 or literally pumping your body full of Human Growth Hormone.. that makes your head go larger. Happened to a boy i school. He earned himself the nickname Jughead. Literally because of it. Put me off hgh for life!
Iv been gym in for 20yrs and I tell you something you learn something new every day, love your vids anyone that makes the effort to do these chats gets a medal or a free protein shake hehe, gj.
Ric, great video and great advice, as always. I always go into the gym with renewed focus after watching your videos. Invaluable advice, and like you remind us, it's free! It's greatly appreciated, Ric! Thank you!
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR THE UPLOAD. I HAVE BEEN DYING TO SEE MUTANT SERIES 4 BUT THIS IS JUST AS GOOD!!!!!!!! It's ironic that I just finished doing barbell shrugs. Ric and Rich you guys have given me so much drive and I am finally going to start competing at the end of the fall. I can't thank you enough for these videos. PLEASE keep them coming!!!!
This was a great video it was very informative when it comes to working traps I do a lot of variations and I agree with rich side laterals will just about make you cry if you do them correctly.
respect to rich about his honesty. The thing he said about using light weights was great. I powerlift, not bodybuild but on my assistance excercises i have that battle too. people looking on and probably thinking "he can bench 4 plates for reps but I can do more on tris.". obviously I and any other experiences lifter know its because I'm shot from my bench workout, but that ego is always there poking at you and it can get you hurt when you try to keep up with it in overpowering, or hurt your gains in bodybuilding.
what a great discussion about working traps correctly. Thanks a lot....I m guilty of the power cage over weighted oly bar and not going high enough...thanks
After awhile of trap training, mine hit a plateau and just were not getting tore n sore anymore. I experimented with EVERY variation of shrugs out there, including the kind rich is talking about, but non of them worked. It wasn't until i started hitting heavy rack-pulls that broke the plateau, and started tearing new fiber. This is now my one n only trap exercise :)
I love doing power cleans and its great because it develops the fast twitch type of muscle fiber, because the effort with the traps is always explosive.
Traps for me,, shrugs to failure with dumbells or bar. Then deadlifts to murder them, followed by behind the back (upright) rows. Try pulling your pants up the next day, its a nightmare..
Great video! My goals recently changed so I started doing crossfit. We do quite a bit of power cleans and I have to agree with Rich. They're by far the best way to train traps I've tried!
Amongst, Powerlifter, the little triangular Dracula hump on The Trapz is a serious concern. They lift only up not even down, instead of leaning forward and ripping it back and up.
guys, please stop focussing on the haters. dont change anyrhing, dont allow them to bother you. you have people who love your videos and advice. fuck the haters, long live rich and ric
The modified shrug/power clean RIch talks about is called a high pull. It's part of the clean and jerk is often trained to develop power in that part of the lift.
The haters need to stop. Rich and Ric are great guys sharing knowledge. It is easy to hate but harder to give respect. Respect to both of you guys. Love the videos and info

I really, really admire Rich Piana. He's great-looking, highly-intelligent, he cares, and he is trustworthy. Ric Drasin will not mess with him at all if he is not these things. Of course one day Ric will have Frank Zane on the show, timely because Professor Zane has been promoting his 2 new books...
Thanks for yet another great video! Rich agree 100% on thinking outside the box! I have tats and I planning my love it, kill it and 1dayumay tat! I have no interest in working a 9-5 Job. I own my own company and do other things on the side. Loving not having to step into an office! Time to go train shoulders

Rich, talking about the "half power clean", is actually doing a clean pull. Love that exercise!
You guys have it figured out!
Spend your whole life working at the image of being the man to the point people pay you to do what you do.
My hats off to you guys.
They are right about cutting carbs. My dad got diagnosed with diabetes and he cut carbs and dropped 60 pounds in a year, maybe a year and a half
its so obvious....but not all carbs!!
