    A friend of mine had a tradition like this! They passed down the same gown to each bride in the family when the time came, but the mother of the bride would always have to do something with it to change it. There was a whole album of the changes to the dress over the years and it was really cool to see!

      Beautiful. We are the totality of the ancestors who have come before us.
      We all want to be original, but we are original because we have one more mother and one more father than the generation before us.

      Tiffani Farrington no. If you want a new dress, you’re supposed to decide that BEFORE destroying your mother’s beloved gift. In the same boat the daughter should know that’s the dress she wants before altering it. You don’t cut up her dress, break her heart, and then say meh I’m gonna get this new one instead.

  • @GpD79
    @GpD79 6 лет назад +514

    Honestly, ignoring the sentimental value of the borrowed dress, I actually think the borrowed dress is much prettier. She looks stunning in the borrowed dress. She looks nice in the new dress, but it just looks like a regular blinged out dress you'd find at clothing store. It doesn't feel like a wedding dress to me. That's just my humble opinion. I like the borrowed dress much more!

    • @ChristinaI
      @ChristinaI 5 лет назад +6

      The borrowed dress (updated of course) looks like what we mere mortals wear. The new dress is like all the other bridal TV show dresses (for non-plus women) - a daydream when you have thousands for a dress and fittings and hairdressers and makeup artists. I'm envious for sure, but I think most of these shows build up expectations that many of us can't afford or obtain.

      They always have to pick a new dress and then choose between the updated old dress or the new dress of their own choosing. They have to choose between something borrowed (after adjustments), or something new. That's the whole point of the show. That's even why it's called "something borrowed, something new". Duh. And obviously it's hard to choose because the new dress is always something that the bride always feels like this is her dress and makes her feel unique, but then the old dress after the update is beautiful too and carries memories and sentimental value and is much more "her" than before the update (if she should have had to pick between the unaltered puffy sleeves and the new dress she would have gone for the new one without a doubt) and that's why they update the old dress first so it has a fair chance against the new dress. So of course it's a difficult choice. But the choice is what the whole show is about.

    • @gloriousbee9366
      @gloriousbee9366 6 лет назад +1

      sophia mac
      First of all, cutting the sleeve off the other way, while she was still in that dress, would have been difficult.
      Secondly, in that way you do not destroy all the lace with it, it is easier to 'recreate' / 'recycle' that beautiful piece.
      When you look closely at the sleeves, then you can see that the measurements of them are not perfect, it is her mother's dress after all and was not made for her. Therefore, it is not as fitting.
      However, by cutting them off lengthwise, you can 'recycle' them by sewing them into any part of that dress. If you decide that you will keep them, then you can take the exact measurements from the daughter. That way you can work according to the measurements and remove or add textiles, if she needs it.

      That's the concept of the show. They have to pick between something borrowed (altered to a more modern style because most modern girls don't want to walk down the aisle in a dress that makes them look like they just came from the set of an 80s movie) and something new. That's why the show is called something borrowed something new. It's the concept of the show. And although it's emotional, if they really hadn't agreed with the dress getting an update and then still having to choose they shouldn't have signed up for it.

      If they would have done it your way she would have not even considered the old dress and gone for the new because it was obvious she hated the train. So they adapted the dress to something she feels beautiful in. Not to something you would like to see. It's about the bride. Not about the mum. And not about strangers on RUclips who would have kept the train or done it differently.

    why are brides so obsessed with looking sexy on their wedding day 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @Iv1309
      @Iv1309 5 лет назад +22

      That's what I wonder, especially with the modern trend of showing as much cleavage as can be. If I get ever married I would at least want my boobs covered. I have quite big ones and wouldn't be ashamed to wear something sexy any other day but on my wedding day I would want my future husband to look me in the eyes while saying "Yes I do" and not say yes to my boobs. 😂 But I do have to say that I didn't find her old or new dress to sexy. The new dress actually really made her look beautiful and the cleavage was at least still modest and I think open backs are just amazingly beautiful. I would want an open back too. Actually my ideal wedding dress is a bit between her old and new, mermaid dress with lace body and sleeves and open back, but in a light blue color like the dress my mum wedded in. Anyway, in front of the altar he's facing my front not my back anyway so at least that open back wouldn't be a distraction. As long as my boobs don't fall out of my dress and he is saying yes to me and not those melons I am fine. 😂

    A very good friend of mine got married in her sister's gown. She paid $300 to re-do the sleeves. We three bridesmaids were kidding about getting awful bm dresses. Well, they weren't awful, but they were stereotypical and only $15 each in a slightly different shade of lavender. Ceremony & reception held at her sister's home, mom took care of the simple brunch, friend officiating, two plain silver rings and a honeymoon of camping at 3 National Parks. Total cost... $4,500. They celebrate their 32nd anniversary this year. Their daughter got married last spring exactly the same way. All these overblown weddings are ridiculous. Focus on the relationship not dress up and a party.

    I am flabbergasted just scrolling to the reactions. I mean, so many people obviously don't understand the concept of the show. Mother wants daughter to marry in her dress, daughter hates dress because it's outdated, so they alter the dress to be something she'd actually like to wear and is much more "her" and much less "mum" (the wedding isn't about mum anyway!), in the meantime she has to pick a new dress of her own choosing. Then the moment comes she has to choose between the two. This is what both mother and daughter sign up for, they already knew there would be chopping in the old dress and a choice that may mean she still ends up with the new dress however emotional it would be, if they had a problem with it they wouldn't sign up. No one forces them. And this is the whole concept of the show. So all these questions about "why did they do this" are stupid questions and I used to believe stupid questions don't exist. And what's with all the "I would have done this and this differently"? You're not the bride! SHE is! They altered the dress to something she would actually like to wear to the altar. It's about her. Not about mum. And not about a random stranger on RUclips who would have done things differently. Perhaps the way random strangers on RUclips would like to see the old dress isn't what she wants! Some strangers liked the train. She didn't! Some strangers liked the choker. She didn't! It doesn't matter what you like it's about what she likes. Consider that. It's her wedding. Not her mum's. Not yours. Not mine. I don't even care to share how I would have done things differently because it's not about me, I am just a random stranger on RUclips. It's about her. And she was happy with it after the alterations. And picked the old altered dress by the way although they don't show it in this RUclips video. And I am completely happy for her. And that's all that matters. So what is the point in going all on about how I would have done things differently if its not about me but about her. I even think it's rude towards the bride if she would read the comments and I am quite sure a young lady like her visits RUclips sometimes too and comes to this video too to share it perhaps with family and friends. If the bride reads this, I pray that you had the most beautiful wedding day that was all about you and your husband and the love that unites you and that you have an amazing marriage. Because that's of course even more important than the one day that starts marital life. ❤️💐
