You're not alone, ever wondered why this particular one? Listen to "Glenn talks about his chair" on utube and hear the different way he plays the beginning there!
I had the best experience just now slowing this to 75% and playing along with the left hand (which is easier since it keeps more of a steady time in this piece, with all the expressive things happening in the treble clef here.) It is like getting swept by the current, and really getting inside the music and seeing it from a different angle. I feel like it is almost like learning directly from him. I have heard this a lot, but had never looked at the music or thought I would be able to play it. But by the end, it was looking like I was going to even get the right hand part figured out. I think you would have so much fun with this, especially since you already have such a connection to the music.

Gould's contribution was to romanticize and sweeten Bach's music so that it is readily accessible to those who do not yet have the taste for baroque music.
@@777rogerf I'm not sure if I agree. Gould's emphasis on contrapunctual clarity over "pianistic effect", so to speak, make most of his recordings the opposite of "sweetened". See his recording of the 1st variation of BWV 988, his prelude in c minor from WTCI and the fugue in c# minor from WTCI as well. Not to mention that his tone is often quite dry (a plus to my ears)
Nimand sonst spielt Bach auf einem im Prinzip völlig dafür ungeeigneten Instrument so, daß man vergisst, dass das Instrument gar nicht zum Werk passt.... Danke! Ruhe in Frieden!
I remember this video. It was how I fell in love for Classical music forever.
My favorite pianist of all - Glenn Herbert Gould - the one and only !

video and sound are not sync !!!!!
Why do they need to be. Just listen to his prestige interpretation and performance .
