My first experience with Ocarina of Time was in 2002 at 12 years old when I got a GameCube for Christmas. I just beat Ship Of Harkinian yesterday with the Twilight Princess Texture Mod, made me feel like I was playing a brand new game. Not gonna lie, the ending music hit me too. It made me 😢 So many amazing memories. And yes, the Iron Boots being a usable item like Twighlight Princess made the Water Temple soooooooo much better 👌
How crazy is it that strangers from the other side of the world can have pretty much the same childhood memories. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were just everything to me as a kid. First played OoT at a neighbor’s place when I was like 8, and it left a lasting mark. Going from 'ALink to the past" on SNES, to Oot N64 was a leap in gaming and tech that will forever be unique to the generation of gamers who witnessed it back then. I loved everything about the original Oot, from the animations to the graphical style. I know it’s rather nitpicky, but I loved the original so much that the small changes to Link’s run and roll animations in the 3DS remasters just didn’t sit right with me, which was ultimately the reason why I never bought the game. Just booted up the original I bought on that retro Wii shop instead. Crazy how these games still hit after all these years
I'm on my first ever playthrough rn on og hardware and it's very quickly become my favorite zelda. It suddenly all became so very clear to me, "they've just been remaking this game my whole life"
Still my favour game of all time followed by the original and now prophetic, Deus Ex. I remember playing it for the first time at Christmas 1998. How heavy the cartridge was compared with Goldeneye and the almost weightless Mario64. Kakoriko forest, the Giant Deku tree the danger of the Lost Woods. Getting my first sword, leaving for Hyrule field. Growing up and growing back. And the music. Oh my, the music. The level design, the puzzles. How the Water Temple broke me and I had to consult a gaming magazine for a walkthrough (no internet access to look it up and probably few if any sites dealing with this at that time). I consider that game to be elevated to work of art status and judging by metacritic and this video, I'm probably not alone. Yes, it defined my childhood too and I cried when I finished it despite being almost an adult.
I never post comments. But BBKDRAGOON, you and I have been on the same wave length lately. I was playing through Half-Life 2 and then your video came out on it. Last night I bought the N64 (switch) controller to play Ocarina of Time and Majors Mask. I’ve been watching your content for a few years now, back when Halo Infinite was just coming out. I absolutely love your videos. Keep them coming!!
Yeah I started playing through it in 2022 managed to get to the point where Link turned into an adult but I had to stop playing because I was so fed up with the constant lack of direction. For me it went like I was having fun for a little, then 20 minutes later I got stuck and couldn't figure out what to do to progress, spent 1-2 hours trying to figure out what to do, eventually gave up and googled it, thought to myself "wow that was really stupid and I wouldn't have figured it out in a million years" then rinse and repeat the whole process over and over and over again through the entire game. I've never been more frustrated with a game before in my entire life but I do plan to revisit it and finish it before the end of the year even if I have to strictly follow a guide just so I can say I did it.
This game genuinely made my childhood. And the music of this game has never left me. Put on any track from this game and I’ll get goosebumps. It always takes me back to being a kid again
Same here I think I’ve beat it 10 times or so over the years I haven’t played in 2-3 years but eventually I don’t know when I will play it again. I always do lol 🏅
The 3ds version got me back into the game after leaning there was a OOT3D randomizer and Ive been playing ever since and Ive moved back to the original now. Learning all the tricks for rando to beat seeds without logic is just so fun and the OG version has so many awesome tricks that the 3ds version took out. Also, try the Ship of Harkinian if you havent its awesome! is a ground up PC port of the game with a built in randomizer and so much more. Its defiantly my favorite way to play nowadays
Naah I’m playing it for the first time! I remember playing parts at a cousins house in 2000 but I never owned it sadly. Last year I bought an n64 with ocarina and majoras so I can’t wait to experience ocarina in its entirety.
Oh my gosh you are in for such a treat. Playing OoT into MM is like none other. MM is just.... also so incredible and unique and unmatched. Cheers and enjoy!
Christmas morning, my little brother and I loaded the gold cartridge into the N64 and explored the lost woods for the first time while I could smell the roast Turkey. An amazing childhood memory and I was just the right age when I completed it to vaguely grasp the sad subtext of losing that childhood. It’s more than nostalgia when I revisit this game.
Whats actually crazy is that i can hear everything going on in these clips even though theres no game sound. Almost every sound in that game is locked away in my brain to the extent where it just plays automatically.
I was just thinking about this game today, because it does something I think goes under-appreciated. While many games use a similar targeting system today, this game (and MM) does something different by tying that targeting system to a character on screen. By doing this, the game allows for a few subtle, but convenient functions. For enemy encounters, especially keese (bats), you may not see the enemy, because it's above you, but if Navi flies up off your screen, you can target it and take it out easily, without having to look around for it. For puzzle-solving/exploration, Navi will jump to points of interest and change color, giving you a hint on how to proceed. She might jump to something you can interact with, or call out a place to play a song. Anyway, convenient timing for this to pop up in my algorithm. Personally I can't play the 3DS version because I absolutely can't stand that forward roll animation (I'm weird). As for the original game, I do think the original N64 stick is the best for precision aiming, but it's absolutely worth playing any way you can. It's definitely constantly jockeying for position in my top 5 games of all time.
This game, Mario 64 & Final Fantasy 7 are the most important games in video game history. They brought so many influential & revolutionary state into 3D gaming that many games afterwards replicate.
I just played through the legend of zelda ocarina of time and the master quest on gamecube again earlier this year... every bit as magical as I remember ❤
I remember before Ocarina of Time came out Toys R Us had the trailer playing in one of their demo booths. This the first time I seen it and found out about the game. I would go to Toys R Us constantly and be in awww watching it. The wait for release date was brutal, I would count down the days until release.

Ocarina of time is my favorite zelda and most played game ever on n64. I missed it on 3ds and probably never going to get one. Ive been waiting to play it again now as an adult, but on the switch so i can experience it on the big screen.
lol I literally replayed both games you had your videos on: Half Life 2, and LOZ Ocarina of Time this year. I replay Ocarina of time once a year for the past 4 years. I grew up watching my older brother hog the TV in our shared bedroom playing the crap out of this game back when I was 8 years old in 1998. Probably the most nostalgic game of all time for me TBH (Besides Counter Strike 1.0)
Shoutout to the pc port and the modding scene for ocarina of time. Personally I beat the 3ds remake a few months ago and got hyper into Zelda. Great game, really important to the history of gaming. Check out the Zero (Mega Man X) mod for Ship of Harkinian it looks sweet.
Let me tell you how proud I was whenever I got to next checkpoint in the game then finishing the game but it took forever!!! Almost like whole year or two when I was in grade school like middle school and younger
Switch 2 remake is based on the 3DS version. 60 fps. Modern controls. Master Quest. Majora's Mask included. Can't wait. By the way, the Switch NSO version of Ocarina of Time is great. There were issues when it launched, but they fixed them a long time ago. Majora's Mask is also great on Switch NSO. Don't believe the haters.
At least you didn't make it further in the game to witness the re-deads, or... gulp... bongo bongo, couldn't imagine what those creatures would have done to you, skulltulas are pretty tame next to the keeper of the Lens of Truth even, that creature was a thing of nightmares. I'd honestly love a Zelda horror movie now with all these creature designs.
I’m happy to see more people appreciate the 3DS lately it’s always been one of my favorites. The DS was actually my first Nintendo system. Tho I do wonder what’s with the surge of popularity with the 3DS lately? I mean it’s great, I’m just curious where it came from…
I used to watch a lot of ranking videos of the Zelda games, and Ocarina of Time took the top on almost all of them. I hadn't played the game in such a long time and I actually got annoyed hearing people talk so much about the game; I even began to slander it as the worst game in the series because of that. It was stupid of me, of course, and I realized that when I finally gave the game another shot. I actually enjoyed it, but there was still some lingering bias that I had against it. Now in 2024, I've finally started another playthrough, completely unbiased. My statement: it's one of the best games I've ever played.
Just get hold of a proper no-intro dump and play Ship of Harkinian. Such a smooth experience, even compared to the 3DS version (I recently replayed both in MQ Mode). What's more, the N64 version has a deeper, much richer audio mix. Majora 3D's audio seems to have been captured straight out of a GBA.
Great video. As a 34 year old that doesn’t play many games nowadays, I have to say, the updated graphics kinda drive me nuts. The jumping, rolling, running, long shot aiming, spin attack charging just all look goofy as hell to me. I hope my 64 never stops working because I’d hate to have to look at the new graphics on my next play through.
It really is about that time again. I've actually been thinking about doing a replay of Majora's Mask instead. That game is so damn special. Anyone who hasn't played either of these 2 games is wasting their life.
OoT was the very firts game I asked for in my life, and every next game has been compared to it... It's hard to label it as the best game ever, but it's a damn masterpiece and nothing compared to it
Been loving the n64 port on the switch but man I would happily pay $100 for a 3ds port on the switch. Not gonna buy a whole system just for the upsacaled version. Shrug. Soooo good though.
It's a tragedy that you finished the game so many times without a full playthrough, kinda takes the magic out of it. Especially doing it finally on the handheld. Try a full run on GameCube or n64 man
Textures, character models - everything looks better but I don't know why they went for that bright and colorful look in the 3D version... it really destroys the atmosphere. I think everyone really enjoyed the dark atmosphere in Zelda OOT + MM back then. They probably tried to attract younger generations with the 3D version 😑
Play the original 64 version! It has red blood and a darker more realistic tone. The 3ds unfortunately shrinks the aspect ratio and butchers the cutscenes. Plus the models and textures don't fit in this era of style. For some reason the animations timing is off or too fast??? But yeah play the original 👍 the controls alone will be worth it. I don't know why remakes never translate correctly into the same experience?
i actually don't like the way the 3ds version looks. i'm happier with antialiasing while playing on emulator. im glad you gave it the props it deserves ocarina of time turned video games from galaga to the storytelling device it is today. the concept of storytelling and cinematic presentation in a game was pioneered by ocarina, or at least on the 3D scale.
Just the music alone in Ocarina of Time is legendary

I grew up watching my older brother hog the TV in our shared bedroom playing the crap out of this game back when I was 8 years old in 1998. Probably the most nostalgic game of all time for me TBH
(Besides Counter Strike 1.0)
Shoutout to the pc port and the modding scene for ocarina of time. Personally I beat the 3ds remake a few months ago and got hyper into Zelda. Great game, really important to the history of gaming. Check out the Zero (Mega Man X) mod for Ship of Harkinian it looks sweet.
Let me tell you how proud I was whenever I got to next checkpoint in the game then finishing the game but it took forever!!! Almost like whole year or two when I was in grade school like middle school and younger
Even more fun with a randomizer. Pure bliss.
Unfortunately this game scarred me for life with the skulltulas. I’m 36 and it bothers me I can’t revisit this iconic game. I just can’t.
Planning on playing Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask on N64 and 3DS
I’m happy to see more people appreciate the 3DS lately it’s always been one of my favorites. The DS was actually my first Nintendo system.
Tho I do wonder what’s with the surge of popularity with the 3DS lately? I mean it’s great, I’m just curious where it came from…
i always come back and play "ocarina of time" on the nintendo 64, it's a masterpiece.
All i need to play OOT is some IRL time lol. Still got the OG n64 from my childhood.
Great video buddy, im gonna play ocarina for the first time after i finish Dynasty Warriors 4
thanks and enjoy!
I got this game for christmas when it came out and dad took it away and finished it I wasnt even mad I liked to watch him play.
I've played oot every 6-10 months since 2012. It's the most replayable pre botw zelda
Play this just about yearly, such a great game
Love the new style of videos. We need a FFX video!
It really is about that time again. I've actually been thinking about doing a replay of Majora's Mask instead. That game is so damn special. Anyone who hasn't played either of these 2 games is wasting their life.
The first time I played Oot, was in the beginning of this year with Nintendo switch online, I got the expansion pack to play the game
The weirdest thing going back to orcarina is remebering it back then it had 8k detail. Going back now it looks like minecraft lol
I heard they might do a remake of Ocarina of time on the Switch 2 !!! (Hope it's true)
is truth :)
Ocarina of time is a Staple in my life forever.
There are rumors that there will be remake on either switch or switch 2. Prob going to wait till then to play it for the first time.
It's definitely worth finishing 100% of the game
OoT was the very firts game I asked for in my life, and every next game has been compared to it... It's hard to label it as the best game ever, but it's a damn masterpiece and nothing compared to it
Played it back in February.
You should try ship of harkinian, the unofficial Ocarina of time PC port. It has mod support!!
Yes! And wind waker!
Literally just started playing again yesterday haha
Been loving the n64 port on the switch but man I would happily pay $100 for a 3ds port on the switch. Not gonna buy a whole system just for the upsacaled version. Shrug. Soooo good though.
When u play ship of harkinian u are going to rediscover the game again
And since you are playing Ocarina of time in 2024 you might as well play Majora’s Mask after which is arguably even better 😎
It's a tragedy that you finished the game so many times without a full playthrough, kinda takes the magic out of it. Especially doing it finally on the handheld. Try a full run on GameCube or n64 man
I was stuck on water temple for about 2 years.
I just finished this game a few weeks ago
Playing this now on my wii u
Your experience with OoT similar to mine. I got it when it came out tho. Gold cartridge.
Nintendo need to remaster ocarina of time and twilight princess hd in Nintendo Switch
I feel like Nintendo is never going to give this game the remaster it deseves
DAMNIT! I had just played it again in 2023! I fucked up.
These is a gamecube version with a 4 pack zelda 1/2 oot & mm thatvyou can play on the wii hdmi with an aftermarket wireless controller
Greatest game ever made
Oh man if you want to take your love of OoT to a whole new level, look up OoT remake in Unreal Engine 5.
Duuuude I had one of the VCR integrated tvs it was the best lmao
Weird to say as a Zelda fan I’ve only played breath of the wild all the way through. I think it might be time to do a zeldathon!
I Play ocarina of time once a year since 2022
The best Zelda game of all time and it’s not even remotely close. As great as BOTW/TOTK are, OoT is just a better true Zelda game
It costs money but switch online works well now
Playing the ship of harkinian port as we speak
waiting for the remake - switch2
If you’re going to play in 2024, definitely play the 3DS version
Is the one on switch the 3DS version?
yes
I like the N64 version better because the 3Ds versions really watered it down
Every classic 3d zelda is a "play at least once a year" game imo
