    This video has helped, the part about being attached to my therapist. I have been struggling with this but afraid to bring it up in session. I go through the cycle of wanting to cancel appointments too, trying to distance myself.

    I got attached to my therapist of two years, and yesterday was my last appointment with her. Next week I will be seeing the new therapist that she referred me to. I never missed a session, in two years. I will be processing the loss in therapy now, with my new therapist.

    How can someone with BPD or attachment issues reconcile the fact that this relationship will end? This is my struggle to decide to keep going to counseling or not. I'm afraid of the attachment because I'm afraid of the pain that will happen when the relationship ends. Unavoidable pain. Volunteering for more emotional pain(by continuing therapy), when you've made it your full time job to avoid this kind of pain in life. abandonment pain. what is one to do? impossible choice.

      this could be the primary focus of the therapy. give yourself the opportunity to surprise yourself by using the tools the therapist gives you and dealing well. and always be ready to forgive yourself for struggling

      I got really attached to my therapist who helped me overcome a lifetime of trauma. What we did was just talk about how I felt, thinking about the relationship ending. We spent several sessions working to soften the blow. I wouldn’t have ever left if she just closed her book one day and said “we’re done, go home”. Yes, the final goodbye was hard, and I cried, but I was able to identify why, and had other supportive relationships to lean on going forward. That helped a lot!

    Thankyou for your answer to #2 Kati! That really helped me too. I've found that I got very attached to the therapists that i've had in the past and i even start thinking about them to this day in that way- like i wish she could be here or see me and things like that. Also my friends parents and anyone really older than me. The problem is that I didn't really have a hard upbringing, so I don't know what's wrong with me! Ahhh but thankyou :) xxx

(I also like warm hugs from other people, dont know if that has anything to do with it, but im just putting it out there ;))

  • @NightOasis
    @NightOasis 10 лет назад +3

    Just on number three; absolutely you need to love yourself first.. I just wanted to add to that- when you get to the point that you're ready for a healthy relationship, and you're seeing someone, if you think they'll laugh, then it's not time or not the right person. When you find the right person, you will be able to share all of yourself. Without fear. And if they do react badly; that's a reflection of THEM not YOU. Your self wroth should NOT rely on anyone else.

    I am so grateful to these videos, they make todays "life" and situations more easy to deal with and i gain a better understanding of how many things work like (symptoms to my pills) suicidal thoughts, new work methods to deal with my (gotta respond to everything rule) anxietys and personal and different thought patterns i've had for a long time and how to break them, or create more positive and healthier rutines in general, so thank you Kati! I believe if a patient is crying in your sessions it's a perfectly mature and healthy way if both consent to eliviate each others pains! So if YOU make your therapist cry i would say that reflects alot on how great YOU are, but also you BOTH together as a team/optimal psychological buddy friendship catterpillar bubble of amazingness. (I have 70+NDE+BPD and psycosis so i end with randomness! :) Have an amazing day and thank you again for lifting my spirit!

    Wonderful video - thank you. Multiple diagnosis are so tricky.I was sent to the eating disorders services when I was in a really bad mixed episode. They didn't want to treat me because my mood was so crazy. At the time it was frustrating but looking back the most important thing was definitely to stabelize my mood and treat the psychosis. Now that my meds have been changed and I am stable I am in a far better place to begin working on other issues such as eating. It can seem so bleak and hopeless when theres so much going on but I think there is a light somewhere at the end of a very long tunnel! XXX

    #KatiFAQ Hey Kati! I am in hospital treatment for my eating disorder for the third time right now. I honestly don't understand how recovery is possible. How it happens. I mean how does one say they are recovered? Does it mean they don't have ED thoughts anymore? How do you know when you are recovered? I just feel lost and am having a really hard time believing I can recover from this :'(
    It would truly help me a lot, and give me hope if you helped me with this question.
    Thanks for everything! Your videos are amazing, and you are just awesome :)

    • @EleanorRealOne

      Just wanted to share that for me, I knew I had recovered when I was at a stable weight for 2 years, wasn't scared of going out for meals and having others cook for me and was able to recognise the negative thoughts..It doesn't mean it ALL goes, just that you are in control of it and you realise you are out of control when you have an eating disorder..all the eating disorder is dictating what to do all the time. I recovered on my own and then saw a therapist to consolidate and help speed up the process.. Recovery is possible when you really want it as you see how much it is is screwing up your life..When you are recovered you can have a full life and no hospital or scales or calorie counting etc. It gets better..you have to really really want it ..why do you want to recover? I wanted to finish uni with everyone else and not need a year out. Also wanted to be more carefree and enjoy food like everyone else . Its so personal but please think about all the things you will gain when you recover. Hope that was useful x

    I know I'm late in responding to this video, but I'm worried! I have an eating disorder, and though I am eating again (not always healthy food) I'm concerned that it's not only a bad time for romance, but a bad time for friendship! I'm in the process of developing a friendship with a lovely man who is very caring, who isn't a 24/7 accessible person but does get back to me when he can, who values our hang out time together, and is supportive of me as I work on eating disorder recovery. In your video, you mentioned that when struggling with mental illness, it's not a good time to have relationships, but does this extend to friends? Is it okay to pursue a friendship with him, or should I wait until I am more recovered from the eating disorder?

  • @CaraBraun
    @CaraBraun 10 лет назад

    I'm finding it difficult being in a relationship when I'm so entrenched in my ED. He is finding it really hard to deal with me going interstate for treatment. But for once in my life, I'm putting myself and my recovery first. He would much prefer the true Cara, not the eating disordered Cara.

    #KatiFAQ Hi Kati! Every since you made your video about ED vs disordered eating I'm really confused. I haven't gone to a doctor to be diagnosed for an ED but I involve in restricting and over exercise. But there are also days when I will eat normally. Usually when I eat I do cut out certain food groups. Is this disordered eating or an eating disorder?
    Edit: I also sometimes self harm after my "normal eating day" because I feel guilty. But not every time. I am also not underweight.

    Am so deferent in thinking or feeling. My mom and dad never understood me.... I'm not close to anyone ... Just my little girl..... I found a feature ones to talk to and I really liked her... And then she gave up on me when she knew everything she wanted to know about me... After that I didn't trust any one.... So I started expected and knew that evry one is going to do the same.... Is it a common way to feel about this?

    I'm really struggling with my sleep pattern - I never get enough and it impacts everything dramatically, including my mood, my appetite and concentration. I can't go to bed until I am really exhausted because I just don't sleep, my thoughts are teaching too much. I've tried the usual, like writing my thoughts down and reading a book instead, but I just can't try and sleep when I'm not exhausted because I'll get too anxious. How can I improve this and bring my bedtime forward? I notice such a difference when I am well rested but it so rarely happens. I also get awful migraines from tiredness.

      X Tina this is super common, it's called Erotic Transference. You can google the topic. Basically the advice seems to be to bring it up to the therapist and work through the feelings. By talking about it with the therapist, it should eventually go away and you won't feel the feeling as strongly because your fantasy will be broken in a rational way. Good luck I know it's hard!
