James confidently stepping out of the lorry, striding over to give the other cars a once-over, and smugly asking "is that the best you two could come up with?" while his own non-functional car is on the back of the lorry, is possibly the greatest moment of all time.

Well, it’s RWD, just like their cars in that episode. Maserati Merak (although Jeremy’s one has an outrageously expensive SS badge, it is not an SS), that’s RWD. Ferrari Dino 308 GT4, RWD also. Lamborghini Uracco. That too is RWD.

this was a time before audiomastering, all the voiceovers were actually just people shouting behind the camera.
Its such a botch job... i cant believe some audio engineer listened to that and thought "yeah thats completely fine"
the battery is discharging, the oil temperature is very high, the oil pressure is very low, the engine temperature is off the end of the scale, im running out of petrol, But the clock is correct. lol best part

They spent 10,000 to fix it and sold it for 7,000. "That shows you how much the rest of it is worth." That is funny and informative. That is why "BBC Top Gear" is great.

What I appreciate most of these series is the incidental music. I wonder who chose it? Possibly James, with his music background?
I bought an '84 Pontiac Trans Am that had the same headlight issue as that Maserati. When I was driving it home on the highway the wind kept the headlights up but as soon as I got back into town on the slower city streets, I had to hurry home so I wouldn't get caught with no headlights 😂

I’m a mid 30’s city boy that loves his skateboards and bikes (of which I have 6 of each for any occasion, weather condition, or off-road) but for half my life I’ve loved every minute of these guys

In his book "the man in the white suit" Ben Collins, AKA The Stig reveals that one of the most important jobs on Top Gear was to make sure that all the cars for the Cheap Car challenges were running but that if there were any flaws or defects, the instructions were to leave them, no mending because knowing that a car was going to fail just added to the fun of it.
He also mentions that that Maserati was probably the worst car ever to pass his very able hands.
One can run on just battery for short periods. You just need jumps often, as you will run down the battery very quickly.
sonyviva308 providing you don't use any electrics while driving you don't necessarily need the battery, the battery's main purpose is just to start the car. The electrics run off the alternator

jude noble You're not the only one, that's 99% of us. I am happy that they are starting a new show called "The Grand Tour" but I think it's just a temporary show. I really hope Jeremy, Richard, and James start a new, long-lasting show like Top Gear where they do their usual challenges in England. BBC, stop ruining Britain. Bring back the real Top Gear and kick out the fake car enthusiasts you hired.

We all know that this version of Top Gear is better than the current new one
There is something about shows with this kind of format -clips previously recorded and beautifully edited combined with parts into the studio- makes it very attractive and rewatcheable

I agree. Yellow for Lambos, red for 'Raris and black for Maseratis... unless you're a rich psychopath and get it all white OR a celebrity and get it all black.

Kind of crazy to think 9 years ago Richard bought a Ferrari dino for £10k and now the exact same cars go for £300k - £500k

Makes you wonder, these cars were top of the line back in the day. In 40 years from today, if we look at the F458 or Aventador, will it look so bad? lol I just don't see what else they could do to make it that much better...
We will see the impossible! Back then when these cars were new, they were sitting in the office being all like "A system to keep your traction? Please that only exists in comic books... What? 180mph? Its impossible! You'll die!" But then cars nowadays have traction control and abs and everything and goes at 230mph so in the future cars will be much better!
They weren't really top of the line the Uracco was a v8 not Lamborghini's flagship and the Dino was well a Dino not even a Ferrari, and the Merak was a v6,
Still, could be worse.
Lambo is owned by VW and Ferrari is owned by FIAT. Nuff said.
smasila Audi (VW) now actually builds Lamborghini engines and designes the chassis'. In my opinion, they are sucking out their soul by doing that. The Gallardo and Huracan are just R8's with a new skin. Fiat at least don't build the ferraris, they just own them.

Yep, I mean you don't seriously expect if the fella who sold the Merak sold the whole car for 7 and spent 10 rebuilding the engine that musta been dross.
Plus as others have said why the heck would you take a 70's car for a low price probably not in the best of shape, thrash it round a race track and not expect it to break? These cars had problems of course and the threesome obviously knew they were buying turds that they couldn't possibly expect to be reliable. However for 10 grand I wouldn't complain I'd love one just to fart about with and restore, though getting some of the parts could be difficult and alot of times it's what you can't see I bet the bodies of all 3 on the underside were completely rotten Richard even admits it on his so there you go, as another guy said don't be angry at TG for ruining these 3 beautiful cars be angry at the previous owners for letting them get this bad in the first place. Buying these cars isn't terrible as long as you know what your doing and inspect each thoroughly before buying you should be able to find a well kept example that might just need some extra work.

The 308 gt4 was intended to be the Urraco actually but Lamborghini didn't like the design so Ferrari took it from Ital design
I gotta say I really really like the maserati and I'd totally buy it if its condition was better.
