I have four 6.5 Klipsch AIMABLE in ceiling front and rear heights. They have removable magnetic grills, very nice. 5 channels run off 5 channel 1000W Emotiva, 2 channel 600W crown driving the front towers and the Atmos speakers driven by the receiver.

I have speakers hanging from my ceiling. Often overlooked but make good atmos speakers are outdoor speakers. Most come with the brackets for hanging, you can also tilt to taste for aiming, and they usually have a wider dispersion than bookshelfs. Now OSD makes a outdoor speaker I am curious what they sound like. They are pendant style. I think they would look better as just like hanging lights and great for use in rooms with vaulted ceilings.

I had Dolby enabled Atmos speakers, didn’t like having them on top of my towers. After watching a YT video on that subject, moved them to on wall. I now have front, middle, and rear height channels. I did learn that a setting in my receiver (loudness management) when turned off gives you more volume (when the receiver is in Atmos mode)

I have in ceiling speakers and I love them. However, it is definitely won't work. Especially if you need to change location. That ends up being major drywall repair( been there done that)
I tested out the prime elevation and they sounded great. However, the timbre really did not match with my speakers. It sounded okay for movies, but I do all channels to test out the sound in the room. Movies are easy to hide, but music reveals everything. It drove me crazy. The fact that I will hear differences as I walked around the room. That's what drove me to in ceiling.
At the time Polk didn't have an Height option. I did buy the Polk r900s which I use initially for rears because my room was so small. I got the idea from watching your videos. However, I repositioned them and now use them as sites arounds. I made sure with a laser pointer that the tweeter was directly pointed at the listing position. They work great there. (Unfortunately, that's what led to the major drywall repair in my ceiling shifting my front atmos speakers)
Like you're set up. Love seeing your journey

I have Dolby Atmos in ceiling, like you I tried different ways inceiling is better. I use my prime elevations as my surrounds for some reason they match well with my KEF Q750, Q650 cc, Uni-Q 160 in ceiling. I am going to replace the elevations with some in wall.

I tried bouncy upfiring. It was ok. I got prime elevatuons but didnt want to run wires accross ceiling or through walls, so i just opted for SVS's side configuration. It does a pretty good job of imaging height. I had one scene where the sound seemed directly above me, despite speakers being to my side. 2 things i would change: #1: i wish i had more vertical separation from heights and bed layer (8ft ceilings with tower bed layer) #2: i need a second amp for my heights to see if it improves sound. Definately helped my bed layer

This was a debate I was having for a long time with my system. I ended up going with some Sonance in ceiling speakers. What I really like about them is the fact that the woofer and the tweeter is amiable. So they don't just shoot straight down giving me better placement options. In ceilings just look so clean.

I rent an apartment. I have four Sony SS-CSE Dolby Atmos enabled speakers mounted high on the wall, front and mid room. Finally I have Sony RS-CS5s which are wireless rear surround battery powered, with upfireing Dolby Atmos all controlled by STR AZ7000ES receiver along with two SW3 wireless subwoofers. All for a 9x9x9 home cinema area, for a 6.2.6 system as the Sony TV has acoustic center lift for dialog using the TVs screen to have dialog coming from actors mouth

I personally didn't like the design of the prime elevation speakers. All they seem to do is fire over ones head (especially in small rooms)
The ones I use now have a ball & joint connection. Not only are you able to pinpoint the audio, but with a little straightening of the supplied L-shaped arm, one is also able to achieve an extra 4 inches of distance from wall to rear port (8" total) which in itself helps to reinforces the bass. Plus, if I don't mind saying, the floating effect looks pretty good, too.

  • @csimet
    @csimet 9 месяцев назад

Like with light, speaker radiation attenuates by 4x every doubling of distance.. never mind the extra spread pattern it causes. If you think about how far those set on top of your mains (a.k.a. elevation speakers) have to travel, it probably adds nearly double the distance over wall or ceiling mounted.
I have some Polk XT90 "toppers" that while they worked, they were just lost in the rest of the setup and barely noticeable. Luckily, like most, mine can be mounted to the wall directly. I wound up moving mine up, using some adjustable brackets on the walls near the corners of the room allowing me to point them exactly the way I need. It improved their response immensely.

I 1st had in ceiling speakers and I loved it. After I moved I had to go with rear mounted on wall speakers. It never did it for me. Now in my new setup I'm running 4 in ceiling and 2 front on wall (height) speakers.
Still waiting to test the current setup out but in short in ceiling is the way to go

I'm thinking of upgrading to 5.1.4 in the next few months. not sure whether to get AMS (400€) or bronze 50 (290€ with current 36% discount) bookshelf speakers, from the monitor audio bronze 6gen series. I'm guessing the bookshelf speakers, with much better specs, would do a lot better job, right? they would require additional wall brackets (Vogel's VLB200 available), but the main goal, to have the best possible Atmos effect, definitely is worth it.
what would you recommend? and about placement, 2 front heights and 2 surround heights? no room for rear heights as sofa is backed to the wall.

I have celling speakers for my Atmos speakers that are 8” OSD speakers but I can’t find any way to get the audio to connect them because my room is on the first floor and I don’t want to cut out the ceiling at every joist so I can run the wires through to each speaker. If I had a attic I could probably get it done if I could get the wife to agree with it. I don’t think she will ever agree with me cutting out 4 holes in the ceiling because she has told me she doesn’t want me doing that at all. I have tried to do the on wall mount but it doesn’t work and I have 4 Atmos speakers that sits on top of the speakers and they are not all that good so I mounted them on the ceiling 30degrees from the wall and 35degrees apart and then 110 degrees from front to back speakers and they are working great and the speakers are a match for the bed layer speakers and I am still working on the complete set up with rew to get a better quality sound.
