I too was 13 when it came out and saw it in the theater. When I was 18, I took my now wife and kissed under the bridge of sighs in Venice :) while the chimes were ringing. We've been together for 39 years now. I love that movie!
Diane is glorious. She’s a talented actress, one of the best of her generation. She’s a year or so older than I am. I saw A Little Romance and she’s been my celebrity crush for over 40 years. I’ve seen just about every movie and TV show she’s been in and she is always captivating.
I wish we didn't judge actresses by looks first. Diane Lane is a great actress. She could have gotten by on just her looks but she chose to hone her craft. Kudos to her!
I grew up watching Diane Lane in the late 70's. I just fell in love with her. I watch this cute movie everytime TCM plays it. I thought it was always such a beautiful love story involving kids. TCM playing this and Jodie Foster the last couple days, I just love you TCM❤️❤️❤️
TCM you're the best. I really only watch few channels on a regular basis and this is my go to channel. It is a comfort channel that brings me my favorite movies, as well as exposes me to new older movies that are classics for now on. Please stay just as great as you are. A channel that is a great education as well as a comfortable channel with movie and theater greats.
She’s one of my favorite actresses and it’s one of my favorite films. It’s pure magic in every way. Thank you for interviewing her and allowing her to share her memories of this film. I hope one day she can meet up with Thelonious Bernard-that would be so special 🫶🏻
I was so incredibly Fortuitous that I just happened to have been channel surfing and came upon this Film : "A Little Romance." And it was then that I became a very earnest fan/follower of Diane Lane's career. She has shown so much ability to be Creative and so able to look so incredibly Polished, yet so Young!!! And I wanted to watch and listen plus Learn about her after that Film. And knew in my Heart that she'd become the Star, she has. I am so happy that I watched it; because, I would not have known about her classy, graceful, and unique Style!!!
Great interview! I love Diane Lane! There are lots of interviews with Diane Lane on RUclips and she is always such a delight. So down to earth and charismatic. Great actress too.!
So funny watching this & learning that Diane Lane's dad was a taxi driver in NY as my dad, who was also a taxi driver, in a suburb of NY always loved Diane Lane! He said she riminded him of his 2 girls - my sister & I of course & he is the one who took us to see A little Romance in the theatre back in the 70's! It is the first movie I remember him telling us about that he thought we would like & then taking us to see!! I was 12 & my sister 9yrs old. And Diane Lane did indeed look like some combination of the 2 of us, we had long hair & always wore it as she did in the movie -lol! My parents had separated when I was 7 & my sister was 4 & then we had a little brother right b4 they split. Anyway, my dad loves movies & always took us to a movie for our times together with him. And at almost 84 he can still tell you the actors & plot of oh so, so many movies....
George Roy Hill came to our college to screen Slaughterhouse Five (while getting readyy for Sting) and he sat down with a small group of students. He was very proud of his films and filmmaking. Loved A Little Romance where Diane Lane was great and still love to watch again.
@@ttaylor1808 He was a very versatile filmmaker. When I finally watched ‘Slapshot’ for the first time, I couldn’t believe it was directed by the same guy behind The Sting and Butch Cassidy.
I was a film booker when this came out, and I remember the sales guy telling me, "This is a beautiful little picture, with Olivier..." So I booked it, and it did okay boxoffice-wise, but I had NO IDEA until I saw this that the girl was played by Diane Lane.
A movie that glows with *tender, poignant power. That *score! Great that it's being honored, isolated, relished as a real "goody" - today. Diane Lane - beautiful woman and child, graced and gracious. Thank you, TCM.
Every film I’ve seen her in she was delightful in. I adored her in Must Love Dogs. I have always dreamed of meeting someone like her. I think the first time I saw Diane was her playing Ellen Aim in Streets of Fire. To this day if it’s on I’ll watch it,and half of the reason is the amazing sound track.
The music lifts you up and is a lttle breeze that floats you through the Paris streets and the poignant and sparkling feeling called First Love. This is one of my favourite films of all time. What a gem.
I was 18 when I saw A Little Romance back in the 1970’s. I had been to Paris with my father and had some beautiful experiences. I was so enchanted by that movie and totally charmed by Diane Lane. Great sound track as well. It sort of inspired me to school, live and work in Europe in the early 80’s. I was in the premium wine business which was glorious.
I‘ve fallen for her over and over during her career. The Outsiders, Rumblefish, Streets Of Fire, Cotton Club, Tuscan Sun, and on and on. She is charm personified 😃❤
Yes it does....Especially where Lane runs over to Olivier and gives him that hug. I read somewhere that that scene, while planned and scripted, the emotions behind it were absolutely authentic...not acting. They both had become so fond of one another. And of course, the freeze frame at the very end of Thelonious Bernard running in traffic, jumping in the air to get one last look at Lauren. If that doesn't put a little tear in your eye, nothing will.
I actually saw Diane Lane for the first time in her second film, Touched by Love. I was amazed at her performance in that film - it stayed with me for a long time. I think my favorite is probably The Outsiders - I have seen it so many times.
This was the best movie, a favorite movie and I am the same age as Diane Lane and I watched it at that time and thought how great it would be to be friends with her lol. I have always followed her career because I thought she was the coolest and still do! Anyone who has not seen that movie should definitely watch it even if you are an adult it's a great movie. It was super special to watch it being the same age as the two main stars were.
She is such a beauty still, I became a fan of hers in the early 90's. I went back over her earlier work and was surprised to find there was so much going right back to the late 70's. I loved A Little Romance, she was such a good actress right from the start.
I'm a few years older than Diane Lane. She was always one of those I would have wanted to take home. She could have played off her face and figure (which are still amazing today), but she's made a living as a fine actor, moving beyond the 'boy toys' she was often cast as in her early career.
A DARLING film like a bright little diamond sparkling in the Parisian sunshine and the Venetian sunlight and shadow. Diane was beautiful, so sweet, so pure, and she had this lackadaisical mother and understanding father or stepfather much more in tune to her 13 year old self. The MUSIC -- sprightly and energetic, just like the young teens. Everyone has a gawky friend like her character did, and all girls know boys who are racier and more experienced; just a delight of a film. Now I want to rewatch it. I had a huge crush on Olivier from Wuthering Heights, so I was delighted to see him working even as an elder. And VENICE! We finally got to Venice a few years ago. A film to watch again and again. It is precious.
Diane Lane is a diva, she shines anhd sparkles in this interview, a rare one and a refreshing departure from the staid and hollow ones done in the industry. Ben is an insightful and emphatic host, and he manages to bring out the best, and the inside stories from Diane Lane's first breakthrough film. This was a coming of age film for many, however underrated, and many have not even seen this classic, a film Ben describes as "perfect', A Little Romance holds a poignant and somewhat bitter memory for me, and over the years, even when the Academy Award winning soundtrack of the maestro Delarue is played, emotions abound. However, Diane Lane is truly a gifted, intelligent actor, and endearingly authentic and articulate. This interview is a gold mine, and adds to the luster of A Little Romance with many revelations from Ms, Diane Lane. She is a treasure,
Mrs Diana Lane you were beautiful at a very young age an still a very beautiful woman now I always watched your movies. A fan that will always love you don't stop your to pretty to
You should see her in “TOUCHED BY LOVE” then tell me if you didn’t cry in that film. Amazing portrayal of a girl with cerebral palsy. Been a fan ever since
It might not at all be Madam Lane's Best Film but I LOVE the Warehouse Breach, Shakedown, and Subsequent Rescue. One of the Best Action Scenes Ever. ❤️🔥
because they news, talk shows and such just love to crack down on child actors that screw up you tend to forget about actors and actresses like this that have had such successful careers, I'm glad that TCM is getting those types of stories out there.
I love this movie.....and own it on DVD! And according to Wikipedia....Thelonios Bernard, her on-screen love DID become a dentist in Nantes.....so he did achieve his lifelong dream!
I was 13 when A Little Romance came out and instantly fell for Diane Lane. Haven't seen too many interviews with her. She's so charming.
There are lots of interviews with Diane Lane on RUclips and she is always such a delight. So down to earth and charismatic. Great actress too.!

Should have won the Oscar for “ Unfaithful “… brilliant performance!
I love Unfaithful!
Diane Lane will be 100 and still be hot. God bless her, she's a true beauty.
You Got That Right
She is 58
So true... she's a special lady.
You're probably right
I hope she lives that long and beyond.
She is not only a great actress and easy on the eyes, but is the definition of class and elegance.
Diane is glorious. She’s a talented actress, one of the best of her generation. She’s a year or so older than I am. I saw A Little Romance and she’s been my celebrity crush for over 40 years. I’ve seen just about every movie and TV show she’s been in and she is always captivating.

Diane Lane is always so charming and, of course, beautiful. But she really has such a great sense of humor. 😄

Just saw this movie today on RUclips free, wow❤ Diane Lane was .is
. a natural.
I remember watching this movie as a kid and to this day it’s one of my favorite movies of all time.
Diane Lane was phenomenal in the film "Unfaithful".
I saw this movie in the theater when it came out and immediately loved it, and Diane Lane. She always makes any project she's in better.
I love her! ❤ Such a true beauty & class act!
Loved this movie, the actors, the director George Roy Hill and the wonderful music by George Delerue. Thank You,
I have always loved her performances! Thank you so much for showing us this side of her!❤️
A Little Romance is one of my favorite movies! Diane is lovely, true beauty! 💖
Another great interview Ben. Diane Lane is such a great actress and such a nice person. Thank you TCM for posting this video.
Beautiful Diane Lane. Love her work.
George Roy Hill came to our college to screen Slaughterhouse Five (while getting readyy for Sting) and he sat down with a small group of students. He was very proud of his films and filmmaking. Loved A Little Romance where Diane Lane was great and still love to watch again.
Just watched A Little Romance now and wow!! Diane Lane and the rest of the cast are superb! George Roy Hill was a marvelous storyteller!

@@stoogefest16 Yes. I absolutely love all three of those films. I still watch them regularly. Hill was a superb director. 👍
I totally see the commonalities between the two. He also was very loyal to his actors and loved Paul Newman.

A fascinating conversation with one of Hollywood's brightest and most luminous *whiz kids.*
I agree. But a bit too personally melodramatic, imho.
I think she was hamming it up a bit. For our benefit, and Ben's.
I‘ve fallen for her over and over during her career. The Outsiders, Rumblefish, Streets Of Fire, Cotton Club, Tuscan Sun, and on and on. She is charm personified 😃❤
Lonesome Dove…
Let's not forget A Walk on the Moon. I believe her most underrated, under the radar film.
Don't forget Hard Ball. ❤
I have seen this movie before and I loved it. She is such a beautiful woman.
A Little Romance is a perfect movie!
This film has one of the most beautiful endings in cinema.
Yes it does....Especially where Lane runs over to Olivier and gives him that hug. He's now a practicing physician!
Ms. Lane has poise, intelligence, and kindness that are truly riveting. Great conversation.
I saw Ms Lane on TCM back in the
early 2000s, and loved it! Secretariat and Must Love Dogs are also great films!
She is a charmer!
I remember seeing this film when it came out, and I just knew that Diane Lane would become a big star as a result of it. Lovely piece of celluloid.
“Tonight is what it means to be young!” Loved her dancing in that song.

Oh... absolutely!

I love (and own) A Little Romance ❤ Wow, what a sweet and positive person she is. Amazing!

What a beautiful and lovely woman, always a pleasure to watch and listen 😊
Many thanks to Ben and Diane! 💎
There has to be an oil portrait of Diane Lane that's aging in an attic somewhere.
good one
I love it...

Loved this film as I was close in age to the characters when I first saw it. ❤
Love her. Such a talent! ❤️
I'm so happy I discovered TCM, this movie through TCM and so many others! I bought a copy a few years ago and have so much fun revisiting it.
She looks amazing for her age.
She has ALWAYS been my favorite actress!
I love this movie! Diane Lane is so beautiful and talented 😊
I fell big time in love with her in the movie streets of fire she looked just like my high school girl friend.😅❤
Diane Lane is magnificent! ❤
Love this movie. So glad whenever it pops up on TCM.
To me the one thing that brought the movie together was the music. I still lose it when I hear Vivaldi. One of my first foray into classical music.
Whoa! This Woman is Stunning!
Streets of Fire is the one for me. I can’t imagine any other person than Lane for that role in the movie.
What a wonderful lady.
Funny classy person Dianne is!!! Being a Canadian ...Slapshot is a Classic movie and glad the interviewer acknowledged it!!!!!
I'm glad the host brought up Jodie Foster, my all-time favourite. I would love to see Jodie & Diane do something together.

Great interview
need more of the interviews on RUclips with older actors
How can you NOT love her? Funny, too

Great match for Richard Gere. They work well together. Love them both
