  • You may ask me "why did I buy a sphere turning jig" when I have videos on my channel showing how to turn a sphere without a jig. In this video I answer that question and share my initial experiences with the Chefware Kits EZ Sphere Jig. This is not a tutorial or review as I have not had enough experience with the jig.

Excellent video. I always enjoy your demonstrations. The older I get (and the less dexterous) the more I appreciate fixtures that can keep me on the lathe. Thank you sincerely for sharing with us.

Impressed by the chip throw trajectory - vertical - keeping the operator largely free of debris……cool! Novel approach for the tool as well: most pivot along a horizontal plane, i.e. parallel to machine bed. The tool here rotates in a vertical plane; novel and clever too!

Nice presentation. I bought this same jig about a month ago but haven't had a chance to use it. Too many other projects. However your video prompted me to move a sphere up in priority. Thx.

No prob, all truths be told I had my jig for quite a while before using it as well.

It’s always a balance of time, personal enjoyment, precision questions, material waste. Yeah, I’m a fan of the accessory to get it done but doing it with a simple cutout to check progress is a fun experience. Enjoyed video as always!

Well stated. This jig saves some time for me but it also does two things. It also cuts threads and the sphere cutting accessory was only little bit more. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@DreadKnotWoodshop I should have said ‘it’s also a cool toy’ and I know you’ve said toys before. :)

I bought the Carter version a couple of years ago and ended up returning it. It had some play in the arms which caused it to catch. I ended up getting pretty good and fast at free-handing spheres so I never bought another brand. Glad this one worked out. Great video.

This one worked really well right out of the box. I am very pleased with it. I also made this purchase because this jig also cuts threads. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

You might try substituting acetal (Delrin) for the wooden cups you've made. Rods come in a wide variety of diameters. I've used 2" for many projects.

Great video! I am curious why you didn't use the sphere cutting jig for the clean up at the end.
