A couple people at our last woodturning club meeting asked for a demo on turning spheres. I am going to demo using your cup chucks. Thanks, I love these.
Good luck with your demonstration! In case you missed this video on stands I would make a few. They really enable you to properly display a sphere. ruclips.net/video/W2Jy_iSqglM/видео.html
You all of a sudden taught me something else Didn't understand how to use dividers to estimate an inside diameter. Just listening closely you explained it to me. Thanks again. You keep teaching, I'll keep learning.
Thanks for that one Mike. Watched it a couple of times to make sure the detail sunk into the grey matter. Am making a sherical resin night light for my grandaughter and the mould leaves a ring around the circumpherence so I was looking for a way to spin it for polishing this off and along come your timely vid. Cheers
mike i only wish i could turn a sphere like you do but im honestly in left field when it comes to using a spindle gouge,,,the more i try lol,,the more catches i get,,i have thought about getting a sphere jig but for what they cost i guess i will only dream about it,,,your a great teacher i only wish i could master the spindle gouge and get some pointers on turning a sphere
@@MikePeaceWoodturning mike i broke down and ordered the sphere jig from chefware,,,the man was very helpful,,i believe his name was craig,,,really nice guy,,,i try to watch most of your videos,,but i have never seen you say anything about a steady rest,,,do you have one and can you reccomend one,,,
@@JeffOldham-c5e Yes, I have worked with Craig since back in 2012. He is a good guy. I have a DIY spindle steady rest I rarely use. You can see it in this tips video ruclips.net/video/kmry9YUvplU/видео.html
I never used a cup chuck. Thanks for the information. You mentioned that too small of a chuck diameter has problems, is there a general rule of thumb relating the sphere diameter to the diameter of the hole in the chuck?
Great illustration of the chucks and how they make contact at the end. Thanks

Great idea. I remember the club slide show and your suggested video! Thanks for the suggestion. Have good holiday.
Very informative and the manipulative models very helpful. I am going to make some jigs to turn spheres!
Thank you👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Go for it!
Great video Mike.
Good information Mike. 👍👍Thanks.🙂
SO HELPFUL

Thanks for that feedback.
Another informative Mike Peace video! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for sharing Mike. Good set of holders, now I just must try make a sphere😀
Take care my friend

Easy peasy. No jig or math required.
Thanks Mike, very interesting!

You can do it I am sure but there is no substitute for practice. Watch this video ruclips.net/video/0wDyAezmQvk/видео.html

Thank you, this is exactly what i need! :)

No rule of thumb I know. Too small does not hold. Too large and you can't cut as much surface and need to reposition more.
miike have you found the bored out fitted tail centter versus a threaded tail center version performs better?
They both work
