    Brovo Maria Young- Your videos are great , and you are a person after my heart .. I have killed a few orchids in all my experiments , but they are worth it to extend the knowledge of orchid cultivation .
    For vandas I have tried cutting part of the stem about half way and found that this causes the top part to grow new roots and the bottom part to grow new shoots !
    After a while when the growth is good , I end up having a few new plants or at least
    two plants when I make the final cut !
    I wish I come across your site earlier!
    Warm Orchid regards and adventures to you!

    Hi there!I've been waiting to see what the phaleanopsis ,cut length wise, would deliver!You are the extreme Queen!

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  8 лет назад

      +Mustofa Martin Why hello there!! :) ...and I have some good news and some bad news on the Phal that I cut length wise...the root portion that I cut has not done anything at all!!! :( There are no signs of any type of growth...although it is still alive as indicated by the green color...the other portion is alive, well and thriving excellent...new leaves and is also spiking...I am not giving up home on the root part of the cutting...it is stated that it can take quite a while for the plant to produce keikies off of the root system...so I will patiently wait...I will do an update as soon as I can. :) Hoping all is well with you and HAPPY GROWING! :)

    You really have magical green fingers, Maria :) They are looking great. Maybe that leafless vanda will also recover in some time. Your environment is so perfect for orchids, that they recover fast and well. In my environment Rose and Mary would have certainly died. Once I bought a phal from a flower shop that had seriously overwatered it. The roots were suffocating and the lower part of the stem was rotting. I had to remove all the roots except for an aerial root, and had to cut the lower part of the stem. I disinfected it well and treated it with cinnamon. Still, I couldn't save it. The whole plant rotted.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  9 лет назад +1

      Thank you and yes indeed you bring about a good fact that orchids will grow and recover better in a climate that's closest to it's natural habitat...and that goes for any plant...but if you are capable of growing them...I believe you are also capable of propagating them if you ensure the same conditions that you are growing them in...another important factor is to propagate them in the right season...where they are at a season in which they can grow the most roots and foliage....I definitely would not recommend propagating in the Winter time where the least growth is noticed and when some orchids can go into complete dormancy period such as your catasetum...but I have noticed with Phals and Vandas they can continue to grow if you provide them good temperatures during the Winter as well....so just to recap...weather, season and type of orchids are all important elements to a successful propagation.

    I am glad that the phal you cut horizontal grew the new 2 babies, the mother plant was too nice and healthy to be wasted. Just a remarque, I think you spelled the "propagation" wrong in the title.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  9 лет назад

      +fifi fifi ...It was a big relief for me!!! I wasn't quite sure what was going to take place...WHEEEEEEW....sometimes you have to be willing to do what most aren't to go beyond and take part of what most can only imagine...it's a good motto to live by and in life. :) ..and good catch...I fixed it...I had it right in the description and in the video...just not in the title...I did spell it wrong in one of my other videos though... rushing and after spending about 3 hours on the editing the video and then another 12 hours on the uploading...I was so over it already! It was good enough for me...I wasn't going through the entire process of uploading again...LOL! ...people make mistakes, it happens and in that particular case I just had to man up and just deal with it! LOL!

    • @fificorina
      @fificorina 9 лет назад

      +PictureMaria1 WOW 12 hours to upload a 19 min video is way too much, something is not right. Is always takes that long?

      fifi fifi yea...we've gone around and around with with our service provider...but when it all boils down to it we just have really bad connection/signal in our area (we call it the dead zone)...it effects even our cell phones...so I deal with the frustration...that's why I don't get as many videos out as I would like...but what can you say...it is what it is and you move on.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  9 лет назад

      Thank you for following my Extreme Propagations....and LOL!!!! Yes it can become quite challenging when your local environment does not want to cooperate with your orchid's requirements...but fortunately there are certain things you can do to try and get your orchid's living conditions as closest to it's natural habitat....such as adding artificial lighting, temperature control gadgets (warmers and coolers) and humidifiers...I know it can be quite challenging but if there is a will there is a way...and it is all a matter of how badly do you want it...one day I hope to have a green house where I can perfect growing climates and conditions...although we have great summers we also experience heavy winds and rains...and short freezing temperatures that can severely harm your orchids...I am dealing with heavy rains right now that have killed some of my orchids...and I am sure there may be some that don't survive the Winter...but my fingers are crossed and I am trying to come up with a master plan as we speak...wish me luck! :)

      @rebekahlaflin3565 9 лет назад

    I love growing orchids, having quite a few and am always eager to learn new things. I would consider subscribing to your site but good grief your insane chatter is hard to listen to, which is unfortunate because you sound quite knowledgeable. It could be nervousness or something else, but try to be calmer in teaching because what we learn is profitable. Thanks again.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  6 лет назад

      John James John you've commented on a few of my videos of which you've said the same thing...I understand you like less talking and less theatrics...so my best advice is to seek out those RUclipsrs that fit your needs. Miss Orchid Girl, TD Moore, Bumblebee are great orchid growers that I believe you would love, please check them out if you haven't already. This is how I make my videos not because of nervousness but because it is more in line with my personality....I am free and unrestrained to how I choose to make them. You do not have to subscribe to me and I prefer that you don't if my videos annoy you that much. I believe in keeping your orchid growing experience as stress free as possible so that you can have more time to actually enjoy your orchids...after all that should be what it is really about. Don't worry...GROW ORCHIDS! :)

      ...why thank you very much...I am glad you found my experiments interesting.....and I live in Florida where the average summer temps are between 80's - 90's or higher...and in the 70's at night....I'm not quite sure on the humidity though...never measured it. Thank you for taking an interest and for watching! :)

      Thank you for shering this information, summer conditions @my location day 25 - 36 celsius, night 18 - 22 celsius, humidity day 20 - 33 % night 33 - 48 %, and over 48 % when there is rain or storm. The overal problem is the dry air here.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  9 лет назад

      Petar Panayotov yea....our air is pretty dry as well....you'll find me misting my garden area to provide moisture....at night though when the temps drop it does create some moisture for them. My vandas and tree attached orchids get watered every chance I get and they thank me for it! :)

    Your environment (whre you live) must be very suitable for orchids growing so they can live good. In my place there is very hot and difficult to growing orchid here

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  8 лет назад +1

      Yes we have very tropical and hot climates here in Florida so a lot of my orchids do love the natural weather...although I do have to keep my other, non vandacious types indoors to avoid the heavy rainy season that often times causes root rot in my potted orchids. There are many variety of orchids that can tolerate a variety of different climates...so doing your research on different types will inform you which orchid is more suited for your environment. If you can provide the requirements and protection from very extreme temperatures/conditions you will find that many can still thrive for you....remember if there is a will there is a way!!! HAPPY GROWING! :)

    Even if they survive, what's the use doing barbaric expiraments? These are living entities. In my mind you just killed the phalaenopsis and made her clone herself to keep her genes alive. The plant will never be the amazing creature she once was. In fact most likely only the keikis will survive. The original entity is forever lost. It makes me sad.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  9 лет назад

      +Preston Mealer, It could be a number of things...without seeing a picture it is hard to tell...but majority of times it is due to some sort of fungal infection or mealy bug infestation...the method that I use would be to spray the entire plant down with the gold color Listerine and then allow it to dry off...I would spray the plant down at least once a week and see if that clears it up...Listerine is common used as an antibacterial, anti fungal and insecticide...also if you don't want to use Listerine, you can use peroxide or alcohol as well to help rid of infections and infestations. I am hoping you get a handle on whatever it is...because if it gets too bad it can end in orchid fatality. Keep me posted and I am keeping my fingers crossed for you.

      +David dela cruz Indeed...and that is the reason why I was willing to take the risk...the reward would've been great either way...some of the greatest lessons ever learned was through failing...because in actual reality failing is a part of succeeding...and you have to take that chance in order to expand and grow...as in your case that although there were some losses...your gain far outweighed the unfortunate outcomes...and now you have some species that are rare and hard to find because of what you learned. So indeed you walk away as a champion and proud owner of those wonderful hard to find orchids! CONGRATUATIONS AND BRAVO TO YOU FOR BEING A RISK TAKER!
