    The former latvian cars worked earlier on the lines Riga-Moscow and Riga-St.Petersburg. They started as the one train from Riga and at Novosokolniki station cars to St Petersburg hitched to the belarusian trains.

    I probably wouldn't travel on this, but it's an interesting journey! Maybe the loco broke down and they changed it?

    An old MEST-36 in original condition 😍 Interesting to see where the Latvijas Ekspresis wagons are now... Estonian Railways sold their Kupe and Platskartniy wagons to Kazakhstan a few years back, too....

    Would hate to be a track maintainer when the toilet flushes onto the ties.

      That is one unforseen consequence! I think more and more of their trains are being refurbished with vaccum toilets so it might become a thing of the past.

    Is there a direct train between Semey and Kataganda without going out of the way via Aktogay?

    • @Simon-Andersen
      @Simon-Andersen  11 месяцев назад +2

      No, but its quicker to get the direct train to Almaty and change for a train to Karaganda there. We just went this way because we thought this train was more intresting.

      No because there is no railroad south-west of Semipalatinsk and never will be. This place is more contaminated than Pripyat.

    How does Kazhakstan Railways even allow trains with a journey lime above three hours to run without dining? Are they short of dining cars, and if so, how and why? Also, you forgot to mention the historical significance of Semey.

    • @Simon-Andersen
      @Simon-Andersen  11 месяцев назад +1

      We did not even have a dining car on Mangistau to Semey! Thats 60+ hours. I think they must be short on them. Ah yeah i could have mentioed more about Semey, but this video was already quite long compared to my normal upload :-)
