The funny thing about the 4th puzzle is that if the pawn had already been on the board it's actually a fairly simple mate to find, but having to construct the mating setup yourself makes everything more difficult. Goes to show how hard it must be to create these compositions in the first place

I’ve been thinking lately it would be awesome to see a new series like “guess the eval”. Like guess the elo, but various positions are shown, the stockfish eval covered up, positional considerations are discussed, and then the eval is revealed. I think it could tremendously informative and also an interesting way to discuss some of the more nuanced concepts. For instance you could even demonstrate the importance of specific pieces and their positions on the board by comparing the evals of the same board but with one piece changed/moved. Please consider it! Keep up the good work!

In the 2nd puzzle, that tactic with Qg5, blocking the check and sacrificing the white queen to deflect the black queen off the light squares and prevent further checks, has a specific name I'm trying to remember. I think it's called a Novotny Theme or something like that. Definitely one of the coolest tactical ideas in chess, right up there with the super rare plachutta! (A term I only know b/c Agadmator did a video on it once lol)
I've also see puzzle 3 before on Agadmator's channel. I remembered that the overall idea was to force the black king to h5 and deliver mate with just king bishop and pawn, and I remembered that the first move was Nf6+ but wayyy beyond my ability to figure the rest out, obviously. As I recall from Agad's video, the puzzle was presented to a bunch of top GMs at some tournament in the 80s. They would all try to solve it in between rounds with no success until good old Mikhail Tal decided to step away from the board and go for a walk during which that crazy brain of his figured it all out and he came back and showed everyone the solution. Crazy!

Once you said the last one has to be a restricting move, I was able to get that one before you said anything about who needs to move. I missed that quiet Bd5 in the previous puzzle. The second puzzle I didn't get at all and the first one I didn't see to the end but would've gotten just making forcing moves

The second puzzle is also forced mate in 25 moves, Stockfish says

These were utterly amazing, especially that first one. I brought up lichess to play against the computer and playing every check in a row and slowly seeing that mate in N ticking down #20, #19, #18, that was awesome. Wonderful video!

Amazing stuff! I have seen the third position before, so could solve now, but the other three were new to me. The checkmate in 25... I figured out the first 5 moves, would have made a mistake in the walks :)

That 3rd one, is that the one that only the Magician could solve after he took a smoke break?

In 4th puzzle you can also put pawn on f4 or h4, next unpin black pawn with a bishop, lets say move bishop to b2, so black has to go g5, and then bf7#

On the last one i totally missed that the g4 pawn could move with en passant. I kept thinking only about moving the rook to free up space for the pawn to move haha nice one

Puzzle 4 is amazing! I thought putting a pawn to f4 and Be6 win cuz i thought only legal move for black is g5. I can't believe that I just missed the simple pawn takes knight LOL

by the way at puzzle 4 if you put a pawn at f4 and then move your bishop to any square except e8, they have to go g5 and bishop back to f7 is also mate

My favorite odd puzzle is the mate in one where you have to promote a pawn to a knight… a knight of the opposite color. The FIFE rules have since been changed so that you must promote to a piece of your own color.

Hi, you should make more content like that, with puzzles or brilliant computer play, because there exist such wild positions in which the winning moves are absolutely unbelievable and u taking us through such is always very enjoyable. Cheers.

In the fourth puzzle what about putting the pawn on h4 and moving the bishop to d5
It will also lead to checkmate on next move as only legal move will be g5 and bf7 will be mate
