I'm about half way through my fifth month of learning to play the soprano sax. I've discovered many sounds that I think the instrument isn't supposed to make.
I’ve been playing the alto sax for three years
just tell people you’re learning the altissimo register lmao
@@zanybandyt7774 Lol. Never thought of that.
@@elicarlson7682 I've been playing for 2 months
LMAOOOOO, I FEEL YOUUU
I get it now. Squidward wasn’t a bad clarinetist. He was a multiphonic specialist. What’s a genius.
thats the oboe bro
As someone who plays oboe and clarinet everyone get confused between the mouthpieces because the instruments are built the same but the mouthpieces are what make them different instruments and it’s so frustrating to see someone that doesn’t know the difference
Idk you tell me
@@kermitfroggyyyyeven then the main instruments are very different
My friend who plays TUBA thought my other friends Oboe was a clarinet, which I play. I made a poster board on the differences I was so mad lol
There's also flutescream, which is both a weird technique and a Decepticon.
You mean jet whistles?
It's only bad when your at a contest and you "squeak" on a flute
I’ll keep these two suggestions in mind for next time. We can do it all here at the US Army Field Band
@@asherkat5853 and when you’re playing piccolo and you squeak is the worst
Let's not forget the joy of singing while playing😊
bassoons can do multiphonics too! wouldn’t it be cool to hear an oboe + bassoon multiphonic duet?
Woooaah! *Yes!*
I think almost every woodwind can do a multiphonic, right?
@All-ze9cl Brass can, too
I bet it’ll sound cool with English horn since it can also!
as a bassoonist, that last one resonated so deeply with me
If you wanna play a funny bassoon sound, play a low f and hold down the Bb key. Thank me later.
Dude, trying to use trill keys but on wrong notes like shifts you up an octave
Relatable to how mid the instrument is

same bro have you tried sucking in with the reed to it sounds so wacky 💀
I wasn’t expecting the last part, as a bassoonist it made me laugh my ass off ahahaha
That slap tongue sounds like a boomwacker
Why does it actually?
omg that just brought back elementary school memories
The flute beatboxing sounded like boomwackers to me too, but it's been so long since I've heard a boomwacker, I think I've just forgotten what they sound like.
@@grantm.9109 no the flute kind of sounded like one too
@@grantm.9109 i know exactly what you're talking about, sounds just like it. The flute sounds like it too
When the weird band kids evolve.
the clarinetist 🫥
What about hik
Fr 😂😂 goofy ass grin lmao he's funny
bro got the sussy smile
how iPhone users feel after typing a rectangle after every sentence
@@dunkleosteusterrelli good one! Haha
The flautist isn’t making weird sounds. He’s just warming up to play some Jethro Tull.
Was about to comment this! :)
I was about to say the same thing.
Ian Anderson wants to join the conversation........
MULTIPHONICS IS THE WORST THING EVER WHEN IM JUST TRYING TO PLAY MY MUSIC
except for when you wanna be annoying
@@samueljsamuel_ or when you’re James Morrison the horn player
I learned how to do it on my sax and it sounds like a firetruck
Be glad you're not a string player
Also, like the bassoon, the oboe reed is a pretty annoying sound if you make it screech lol
Yes, clarinets squeaking every five minutes is beautiful. Definitely.
beautiful if it's a jazz piece. Ooo!
Oh shut up, clarinet is a beautiful instrument when played correctly.
bro relate
@@Chem-Chem honestly we get so much hate for no reason
@@Lux.ury01 Ikr
As a bassoonist, I can make several noises using just the reed. It doesn't always need to be used as the world's most difficult kazoo.
My favorite is to do duck calls
As a flute player, can confirm it’s one of my favorite things to do
Same here!!!!
Agreed here mate
I must be the only one who doesn't like it.
When you become a pro musician in the military but still maintain your band kid energy
Omg the sax slap tongues!!!! My section leader does that all the time! He’s tried to teach us but I can’t figure it out 😅 Man I love him so much but he’s a senior and is gonna be gone next year 😭😭😭
I love how Todd from Breaking Bad is just chilling in the background at the end
As a bassoon player, the most we can do is aggressively crack a note. Specifically G flat..lol
The Clarinet is just 🤣
Definitely beatboxed with my flute more than once-
That clarinet player is a hoot!
I’m not a winds player… I’m a string player. And let me tell you, the violin can make some… horrific screeches. Just put the bow behind the bridge and you’ve got an angry demon from hell screeching.
The clarinet sounds more like a tropical bird! 🦜
😂
The guy doing the clarinet trimbal trills looks like he would do clarinet trimbal trills.
Idk how to explain but he looks so perfect for the sound lol
We only have one bassoonist in my band and my favorite part of rehearsal is right at the beginning when she tests her reed. It’s my favorite sound in the world 😂
I am that one person who tests my reed
The bassoon was hilarious when you added the huge frown emoji 😂
Glad the bassoon wasn’t just a clip of them ordinarily playing
“Tired of hearing beautiful sounds from woodwinds?”
Yea, just give it to me
as a clarinet player.. i was totally expecting the clarinet to use the “laughing technique”! where the clarinet sounds like its laughing
Lol can relate, also a clarinet player
What’s that?
The beatboxing flute is the best one honestly
So if I combine 2 things I love, beatboxing and flute, I get a sound like that. Neat!
Personally, I like to use the flute mouthpiece and either stick my finger in the end and make it a slide whistle; or use the mouthpiece and rapidly cover and uncover the end to make rainforest noises
I like how most US Army troops play instruments
They learned that they don't really want to die.
Bassoon, the saddest of all instruments😔
more like psycho
I thought you said you were tired of hearing beautiful woodwind sounds. To me it's music to my ears.
I play the clarinet and I like making owl sounds with the mouth piece
The bassoon one is very relatable. But it can sound much weirder especially if you are trying to switch octaves😂Think like a clarinet squeak but not as high pitched (it’s kinda hard to describe). I had to learn the clarinet for marching season but the bassoon will always be my favorite😂
Haven’t played a saxophone in years. The tongue slap gave a good jab of nostalgia. 😌
For the clarinet, you take the top part, with the reed and blow, it makes a squeaky noise
As a flutist myself, I have used the flute beatboxing many times. Aswell as the famous "flute slide whistle"
Yes to the headjoint slide whistle. I’ve also got a glissando headjoint, but we went with beatboxing this time around
As a flutist, I love destroying everyone's ears with my beatboxing
I remember in high school we had a song with multiphonics in it from sax and clarinet. It was one of my favorite songs I've ever been a part of. Especially with all the weird percussion sounds and flutter tongue from trumpet.
What's flutter tongue and how do you do it? As a trumpet I need to find out
@@randomanimatorandgamer9392 I played flute. I'm sorry I can't help
@GalaxyPrincessK ah I see, it's all good lmao
As a drummer I got a fight or flight response when I heard a rhythmic “Mary had a little lamb”
The face the clarinetist made dude💀
You know about the ‘ ‘ Light saber ‘ ‘ Note on clarinet? Just amazing.
Good thing to know my tax dollars are funding this. This is amazing!
Tf I don’t see u in an army fighting for America so they can do what they want
Hey now buddy you didn't have to call me out on the Bassoon there lol
tell the sax player to play the home depot theme and my life will be complete
I don't care what anyone says, that flute beatbox was actually really good!
as a flute player i need to try this
I got requests to play Seven Nation Army on my bassoon Reed.
Best minutes spent of my life.
I’ve always waned to learn how to beatbox on my flute
As a clarinetist, another weird(but fun) sound it can make is if you take the mouthpiece and barrel off(as one), start blowing then change the tightness of your mouth, it can make a very fun noise
Clarinet and bassoon can also slap tongue. Saxophone and clarinet can also do multi-phonics
Unfortunately RUclips shorts and Instagram reels have length restrictions.
@@ArmyFieldBand bassoon can do multiphonics aswell
The flute one is a good chunk of how Jethro Tull's "Bourrée" flute sections are played
Haha my band teacher would never let me make that sound with my flute in class
You could make the argument that the NFA has recognized beatboxing as an official extended technique for the flute...
𝑆𝑎𝑚𝑒
My big brother currently plays bassoon, saxophone, oboe, and precussion and idk how be managed to learn that much tbh, he is the best at bassoon tho
I’ve done the slap tongue forever, and am just now learning it has a name lol.
if a bassoon goes down to low Eb and forget the banana key (R1) and hits the large circle key you get the weirdest sound. i did it today.
multiphonics always end up to be what i do when practicing my music
You tired of hearing beautiful sounds out of these marching drums? I sure am *casually de tunes them all to lowest pitch* there we go
For some reason I love doing the “slap tongue”
I've actually seen bassoons make digeridoo noises using the other end, but reed sounds are still funny as well
Bassoon can also do slap tonguing.. 😢
I know I do it all the time
@@cdiddy0-8 It can also do multiphonics
Bravo flute !!! Saludos desde Córdoba, Argentina !!
actually i’m tired of my band woodwind section sounding like crap and i’m the only good besides my and my buddie
Slap tongue is an actual technique for the sax?
I just did that to practice quietly
I play the bassoon an he didn't even use the actual instrument 😔😭😭😭✋
This is my band on a daily when we have the chance not to play music but just play
Timbral trills: *Exist.*
John Corigliano: *It's free real estate.*
As a bassoonist the coolest and weirdest is the lowest note it’s so cool! It sounds like a fog horn and it’s so deep, dark, and mysterious 😂
Yessss me and my friends always compare to a boat horn and I love it so much😂
you can make a clarinet sound like a semi truck
I love this. I beatboxed a little on my last flute recital but dang I wish I had done more
The oboe multiphonics sound like the school fire alarm
The look of ABSOLUTE “IM DONE” on the Bassoonist’s face when he has to play that, lol. I think every musician in the world can relate to him.😂
Multiphonics are pretty weird.
Also Slap tongue kinda reminds me of hitting pvc pipes with sandals.
I only know of flue beatboxing because of matter Wu in the Lego ninjago movie lol
I love doing that with my clarinet though lmao
As a percentage I’m glad we have no instruments that make weird sounds….
(It was a joke)
There is also the SCREEEEECH from the clarinet. It is when the hole arent covered right or reed isnt in right or reed is broken
I have tried beatboxing into my flute before. It’s fun just make sure to clean off ur head joint when ur done
Slap tongue on the tenor/bari sounds way cooler
That basson player is me everytime I decide I’m tired of bass clarinet and want to try something different
These are just as beautiful! Well, most of them.
The clarinet guy’s smile…
The flute beatboxing actually sounds kinda cool in a weird way
Omg, bassoon! I loved playing the bassoon
All the woodwind players knowing the unbelievable irony in the first statement.
That Oboe sounds so . . . artificial ._. wow [it's not bad just... wow]
Crazy, isn’t it?!
Even in the military band kids are still band kids.
I wish the woodwinds at my school were capable of making beautiful sounds
I play flute and omg I’m going to try that lol 😂
ive learned by myself how to do multiphonics on alto sax, and it is terrifying to try
jet whistles from flutes are another to add to the list
make them make the sound of a door creaking 😮😮
The multiphonics grew on me the more I hear it
As a clarinettist, I’m personally a big fan of the throat-tone-a#-that-sounds-wrong-regardless-of-it-being-in-tune
Que legal 💤💤💤💤amo instrumentos musicais 💤💤💤♥️
I was hoping there would be some clarinet smearing, but hey, that was also good
👍🏻
Wdym? Bassoonists always look like that lmao
There are a lot more "techniques" on the Flute: Multiphonics, Beatboxing, Flutter Tonguing, Overtones (if you want to count that), Pitch Bends, Whisper Tones, singing while playing, Etc.
