ELR looks 10k times better than a Tesla roller skate. That ELR is such a nice ride. I have 3 Caddys. 2020 XT5 Love it. 2023 CT4 Love and 2019 XTS (same color as your ELR) and I love it. Cadillac gets a bad rap. I've has so few issues over the years a lot than my MBZ or BMW's I've had. Even less the one of my family members has had with her Lexus is350. Keep your Cad!
This is exactly what I'm thinking!!! Unless he love's it enough to keep it forever he needs to move it on down the road. A bird in the hand..... if he REALLY loves it then move it, buy another, move it for profit, then rinse and repeat until the used values inevitably crumble. Once properly "crumbly" keep THAT one and be in it of free when accounting for the profit made on the previous flips. That's the move!
I'd sell it, side it's a sweet ride and good on gas but you have the Tesla anyway. I think the styling is starting to age, pocket the 9 G's and make some memories with it.
@@ferrynpalmer3875 If I saw this correctly, hes actually bidding on a 2014 ELR so he could easily sell the 2016 for 21k and the 2014 for probably not much less. Both cars are low mileage so he is about to make bank! Randy is a smart guy, and given this car is easily going to net him 9k profit, I think these things are a win! After watching his videos I want one of these.
Right ? take the offer while is still available instead regret not taking it.. beside with the little profit he was already looking for another ELR black cheaper that would have different problems get that one and still have money left to fix it that one as well and decide latter to sell or keep that one too who knows maybe as time will pass by those might get a bump increase in value or maybe new improved batteries would be available to that Cadillac dealer and might worth keep at least one..
That ELR is one of the nicest gm products I’ve seen. Usually even Yukon denalis and Escalades still look a little cheap because they are basically just a Tahoe but it seems like with the ELR they went all out
agree man. That is a sweet looking car. I passed on one a few years ago and I think about it all of the time. They are worth way more now than they were back then. I think the 2016 is especially desirable because they only made 545 and it has more power and torque.
I got one recently. Honestly, coming from a Honda CR-Z, the lack of attention to detail is noticeable, but it is still a very nice car. The interior is very nice, with nice materials all around, very little plastic and what is there feels good. I love the almost Hot Wheels like appearance with the huge 20" wheels on a tiny body and the high waist line.
Randy, I'm not sure if you sold it yet, but I would agree that it's a nice, smooth, fun ride! I love my ELR, too. On EV range, I get a constint 35-37 mpg. I have a 2104 ELR, and sometimes, when I'm all freeway, at 60 mph on the freeway, I get 39 mpg on EV. The trick after doing much research is to drive 5 miles below the speed limit. Other people hate me, but I have learned to cruise and enjoy the ride. Also, if you change the charging to 12 amp, from the 8 Amp prest setting, on the level one charger, it should only take you 8-10 hours to fully charge the battery!
Keep the car. Enjoy it. Perfect first car for Nick. Great mpg, and he’d have a unique ride that looks sharp too. Can’t go wrong keeping it at that price point.
I definitely do not think that you are stupid. It's a great car that you love, keep it and drive it! You've got lots of cars that you can sell and you'll be getting lots more.
Interesting video. Clearly you got a deal as a result of the previous owner not doing simple maintenance. Your ELR is the first I’ve seen in pearl white, it looks great. It’s a bit puzzling that the ELR doesn’t have the same electric range, 53 miles, as the Volt. The information I’ve stumbled onto states the ELR range is 26-28. Even so it’s a beautiful car
I have a 2016, I average well over 150mpg in mine. I’ve gone as far as 3300 miles on a tank of gas which hold 8 gallons. These are awesome and rare cars.
Hey Randy, great video… wanted to thank you for taking the time to explain why this car, or many other hybrid vehicles can work for you, and save you $$… I drive full electric ( model 3). and love it…🤗 it works for me, I tell everyone, you have to think hard and see if it’s going to work for you, road trips and charging issues turn off many, because they are so used to having a gas station on every corner… driving electric is a little different.. It’s going to help that Tesla charging stations are going to be open to all EV’s, with adapters 🤗 you’re spot on with the stat about how much a persons daily commute is… P.S. keep the ELR.. It’s a very rare looker 🤔👍
I could see keeping the ELR, yeah you can make 9k on the car. But it's in great shape. I'm sure it's great to drive and the mileage is awesome for running around. Just the peace of mind is worth it. If you were to take the money. You will surely spend it on yet another headache vehicle so having one that, for now, and probably for quite awhile you can feel like you've got an ace in your back pocket. I'm with you 100% on this one! I'm thinking that I'm going to pick one up for the very same reasons you want to keep it.. I have plenty of other vehicles that I can drive but I think I would love having a Caddy like that for my going to town rig... ✌
I own a 2014 ELR with every option and love the car. It also had a charging issue but discovered it was the charger. Replaced it and now I have a fully functional electrical system.
I don't blame you for wanting to keep the Cadillac Randy its such a sweet looking car that gets attention. Even better you got it fixed for free! If you keep it then awesome if you sell it then try and catch the other ELR. No harm done at all. Love the videos as always.
Loved my '14 ELR. Had the same issue with battery charging at 62k miles, just low coolant. Was also pissed when the recall was done and dropped from 35 to 30 mi range. Such a great car for 2 people with short commutes.
Keep it for awhile. It's a sweet car and it looks like it makes you happy. I'm curious to see how it performs in daily use and under different circumstances.
Nice Randy she’s a beauty! Glad they fixed it under warranty! I’d hold on to it for awhile. Can’t wait for you to start working on the Monte!! I’d cash out
I can relate to what you are saying and the dilemma of either taking up Carvana's offer OR keeping / driving the car for yourself. As a "deal hunter" myself (although not cars specifically), I tend to get similar dilemma / emotions, especially when I have taken a chance / spent money on something not knowing the outcome and whether it will end up being a waste of money OR if I might get some value out of it. And then when it ends up being way better than expected, the emotional attachment starts creeping in. I think its normal for those of us that are "passionate" about these things (finding deals - be it cars or something else) when others look at them more as "transportation tools" etc. As example, we have 2 cars - 1997 Civic EX stick shift and my wife's 1998 Accord. In fact, I came across this channel trying to figure out if there might be anything we could do about the horrible clear coat peeling on her car and saw your videos with the Accord you bought from Copart and turned it around after the Maaco job. Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that for me, after all the time and effort I have put into both cars over the years and everything I have learned while keeping the cars in good running condition for almost 200k miles each, especially the Civic (which I call my "fun car" due to the stick shift and the history of all the effort i put into finding it with American Honda's help back in the day), I am the one in the family wanting to hold on to them whereas wife and kids are of the opinion to sell and move on to something else / newer. Long story short, my suggestion of next steps with the ELR might be to weigh whether losing Carvana's offer would be a bigger loss for you versus keeping the car for a bit and driving it around a bit to see how your thinking / feelings(?) for the car evolve? Another consideration might be any space constraints at AAR HQ - especially with the Bentley and potentially another ELR or other auction wins on the way? Regardless, whatever you decide, I don't think there could be a terribly wrong choice you make. I mean even if you pass on Carvana's offer now, they might still give a lower offer that could STILL make you some money - say $19k versus the current offer. So is the $2k for say 2 months of driving this ELR worth it for you / your circumstances? Just my $0.02. Great video as always. Keep up the great work. 👍
I think you’re making the right choice to keep the car. Because you don’t have to worry about it depreciating overtime. You already bought it at a depreciated price. Do you serve a favor and keep the car since life is short And it works numbers wise.
Having owned 2 Chevy Volts over the past 9 years...I would check your tire pressures...and tires....Volt owners typically run 40 plus PSI on their tires. Also try your climate settings....running in ECO or Fan Only to extend the EV range. With my Volts...in the summer I have experienced up to 40 miles of range...maybe even more...even after the similar software update. In the winter, my range will drop into the 20s...and I'm running in freezing weather with winter tires which will impact the range. This looks like a great find and nice that it was a somewhat easy issue for the dealer to resolve.
yeah I am sure it is just "guess-o-meter" stuff. I doubt the battery has degraded that much. It has been sitting for a while and you don't know how the last driver was driving it. A better measure would be to check the number of kw the battery uses.
@@meandmyEV Excellent points on the guess-o-meter...who knows how long the car was fully charged before the repair...after a few charging and driving cycles...it will probably give a more accurate reading. On my 2015 Volt, I'm seeing about 9.5 to 10 kw on the battery which is fairly decent.
No way the battery has degraded down into the 20's on a 16. I had two Volts before my Tesla and that is one thing GM did over engineering the buffer in the battery to prevent degradation. There is like 15 to 20% total of the battery you never have access too at the top and bottom.
10:20 all the info I've seen quotes 39 miles of range, and on my ELR I can get 38-40 miles if I keep the speed under 60. If I'm not careful, I get between 33 and 35 miles, still excellent ~30 miles of EV range may sound pathetic but it is incredibly useful. Most people only commute 30 miles, so most people could commute on EV mode only without ever using up any gasoline. My 44 mile commute can be done with about 0.2 gallons of gas, a tank can easily last me over a month and it's under $30 for a full tank of gas. Smaller trips to the grocery store or whatever are easily covered by the battery, 40 miles is further than a lot of people realize. Only downside in the ELR is that the heat will eat up that battery like crazy, sometimes even doubling your energy usage for shorter trips. The car definitely has its flaws and isn't for everyone, but it is an underrated car, and the whole Voltec system as a whole is very underrated IMHO.
Randy, I have a 2018 Volt in blue which I absolutely LOVE, so am familiar with the ELR Powertrain based on Gen.1 Volt. I think your ELR is fantastic, the white is so sharp, Interior so much nicer than my Volt. I see why you don't want to give it up. You might see range improvement when the weather warms up. My Gen.2 Volt is rated at 53 mile range, yet in Summer I see up to 65 and in Winter it plummets to 43. If it was me, I am siding with your Fiance, take the Carvana money and run.
Volt owner here , batter degradation on this set up is bad. Good news you can get new batteries, not the OEM, and get more range. None the less, I have been thinking about picking up an ELR. Yes, on my volt I rarely use any gas, also I’m in California and this thing zips in the mountains.
I don't blame you for wanting to keep the ELR. I'd want to also. A $9,000 profile is amazing and I'd want run with it in my pocket. But so nice! I'd keep it. If! I didn't need the money. Such a sick look car man
Beautiful looking car I don’t know much about them. We have an 18 Tesla model. S but the Cadillac looks amazing I say keep it and do the road trip. Great video. Thanks again.
I drive a 07 town car and a 03 Oldsmobole Aurora. Bith V8. 1 RWD, 1 FWD. Both get on avg about 25 mpg. More if i really old man it down the road and stay out of stop and go. Both ride like a big cloud. Both very roomy and dependable. Drive what u love. I used to think sedans were for grandpas. I drove firebirds. Trucks, 2 door coupes etc. These 2 are the most comfortable cars ive had. I had to tow a late 90s Fbody. I opened the door and climbed in and was like wow, this door is so long and heavy. Sits so low. Still like it but not love. Ill take my dependable, perfect driving and ridning sedans. Easy to fix but really never have to. Drive what u love. My buddy has a early 90s s10 with a 2.8 and 5 speed with 600k. Runs like a top.
I'm glad you have to make the choice and not me. Myself, I'd wait until the other Cadillac is mine then I'd see if it's as good as the one you have and make a decision which one goes down the road.
My round trip commute is 35 miles, about 17.5 miles each way. 28 - 35 miles works. I only burn a half tank of fuel every week (this in my 2018 ES350). Very tempting to start looking for one of these
@@cdoggyish I agree. Only problem with that is we have a conventional parking lot with no provisions for charging. There's multiple people with Teslas and Taycans that can't charge them at our building.
I'd say buy the second ELR if you can and see if you can get that to work, if it does then you can sell the first ELR or determine which one you want to keep more.
Terra haute & back . Love uncle Ron's house can't wait to see more loved the Mercedes & Celica content when you drove them back from Terra haute . I've only seen one ELR back in 2014 it was blue yours is much nicer sleek & unique. They're so futuristic.
Cadillac makes real nice cars. Keep it for as long the Tesla needs repairs, once you get that fixed, sell for the profit and you can invest in a nice car for the channel again. Big up!
Hell yeah! Turn at least one of the Cadillacs into a V8 monster. But I like it how it is. When you first post about this car it's the first time I've ever seen it. I'm not into the electric vehicles but this I like
Grab the cash before something breaks or Carvana offer goes away! Enjoy it while you wait for them to pick it up! The timing should be about right. Click the button! 😮😮😮😮
Kinda wanna see the fuel economy on that trip in the machine! Should find a EV friendly set of tires and add a bunch of "wind resistance improvers". Try to push the fuel economy to the max!
I am a Cadillac fan, at least of their automobiles and Escalades not so much of the modern small SUVs, Following along as you take the ELR to Indiana and back would certainly be a video(s) that I would watch. I know that some of my most enjoyable cross-country trips have been in either my 1984 Eldorado Biarritz Convertible or my 1975 Eldorado convertible.
I had two Chevy Volts Gen1 and 2 before I got my Tesla. Your ELR is a Volt with a Cadillac badge and the battery range on these will fluctuate over time as you drive it. If you drive efficiently your range will go up from 28 to 30's over a couple of days. In the summer your range should be around to 40 miles, winter really hits these hard because they don't have much range to begin with.
Well, having watched your previous video to this, I know you took Carvana's offer. My question is, did you buy the black ELR for under 8K on Carvana? If you did, you basically have a free ELR!! I would bet that you did, or you wouldn't have left that in this video. Thanks for the great content again Randy!
I love the ELR, I had a 2018 CT6 plug in hybrid which was a fantastic car and was my “gateway drug into EVs”. Btw, the Lyriq is going to be able to use the Tesla network in the near future.
$9000 is a lot of money, but if you like the ELR and it gives you joy, then that is worth more than $9000. Keep it. Enjoy it. There will be another car in the future that you will like more and then sell the ELR...the only risk? Rumors of Carvana not doing so well...but who knows...things you hear on the internet are sometimes not true! :) BTW--that Bentley sounds AWESOME! Can't wait for that video to come out!
Randy: You need to look into what's out there to replace or refurbish your HVTB. Your battery is 8 years old and will be out of warranty shortly. Your car and the Volt were not high volume cars and you need to know what is available for it when the time comes. If that answer is "nothing", take Carvana's money and run while it's still functioning properly and they are still in business. The same holds true for other parts. Mechanicals are largely shared with the Volt, but ELR specific parts will be in short supply. Btw,, the reason you are seeing different ranges is that the 2014 had less range, 37, than the 2016 at 39. The '16 with the Performance Package is rated at 35.
I think you should keep it. It looks great and it has the advantages of that BMW suv you used to have of the "extender" engine. It might be expensive to keep up this car after the warranty has expired though.
Newer 12 volt battery hopefully, keep real good tires on the front because the quick torque and rain while turning is 👀 I have a volt and got a spare from a different Chevy and then I got two flats at once🤷♂️ play with hold mode and mountain mode when you trip. PPF the front, it sits low and grabs rock chips out of thin air. Great video!
so glad for you, that’s some solid deal and car is so fire dude, but i think electric motor must work in conjunction with gas one so to improve your efficient as hell. it’s literally luxury, stylish, comfort prius
Good news. I ride an Ebike most of the time and drive a Prius or my Ranger 2-3k miles a year. The car you have would be perfect for long distant trips. I think you will sell it. You normally lose interest in cars fast and that's nice that you can do it. Have a great weekend! Get the Tesla fixed! :)
Maybe shop around the ELR to some other dealers or other folks. You might get a better deal elsewhere. That’s a gorgeous car and it’s going to be super rare. I wonder what it would bring on bring a trailer or on cars and bids? Heck, maybe the Fast Lane Car (TFL) would be interested in it because they are into electrics and classic cars.
The ELR is a very nice car. I do not blame you for wanting to keep it. I know that everybody expects you to sell everything but every now and then you come across one that you want to keep. Don't listen to other people. Keep it and enjoy it. Money isn't everything.
Randy.... love your short sided love of the ELR....... BUUUUUT...... everyone on this channel ķnows you are gonna be bored with that car next month. How many cars and trucks have you loved...... then left in the yard. Randy..... we love you for it!!!!!!!!! But man.... please take the money this time. Please!!!!!!
YAY THEY DID IT! That’s so good they were able to fix it! Hope your trip to Indiana went well (based your IG, seems like you are)! Love the content randy, love to see it!!! ❤
I have Chevy Volt. Your Cadillac has the same platform as my Chevy Volt. It comes with 17 kw batery. Gm.let us use 10.2kw. The rest of it is used for backup. I see you used 9.8kw for your trip. I think you should be able to make 36 miles on one that charge. So when you deplete your fuel, then your remaing batery will kick back on. It depends on your driving habits. You have 10.2 kw (in your case, 9.8kw) usable battery. Depends on your driving habits how many miles can you make on that.
Personally, I'd keep the Cadillac. I've had a hybrid in the past (not the Cadillac), and they are great cars. It gives you the best of both gas and battery.
Keep it. You can then sell it later and make your money back. You pretty much get to appreciate it for free. I do similar, but I pick around the edges of Mecum auctions. I even make enough to cover all the mechanic services and the rest. I sell so many cars that I had to get my dealer's license. That makes it even easier because I can (legally) toss a dealer plate on anything I drive.
Take the deal. The profit from it will pay for the other one you bid on,and you'll still have a nice chunk of change left.I've had good dealings with Bob Moore dealerships. They take good care of you.
That's a sweet car, but 21000$ are 21000$, I would cash out and buy an another cool car. Man, you can even start a series from it like "Flipping the ELR to a Ferrari" or something like that! Would be very cool!
Randy, do the road trip with the ELR. It will be good consumer advice comparing that to the Tesla on long road trips....I found the Tesla Vs Prius C trip very interesting as a comparison and I'm a form believer that full EV is NOT the way forward, ICE/Hybrid IS!
I don't blame you for wanting to keep the ELR. That is a sweet little ride!
Do whatever makes you happy, man!
Is a rare car. I would have a hard time on this. 😮😢
He already decided he's going to sell it, mentioned it in his last fleet video.
Picking one up as a daily personally, they are great cars.
Take the money and run.
Never thought I'd say this about a newer GM vehicle.... but that is a really good looking car.
But it will break down in the next 12 months… Greetings from Germany!

If Carvana offered $20,000 + for your ELR they either have someone who is going to give them more or know that they can find someone to do the same.
I don't think that's how they do things
i think carvana are in loss making/tax minimization mode
Should u try carmax maybe more like 25 to 30,000 have u ask how much longer on the warranty last when end it ❤

Hey Randy, hopefully you win that black ELR for cheap 🎉 awesome car😊
Sounds like a real crappy car to me…
No way the battery has degraded down into the 20's on a 16.
If I'm not careful, I get between 33 and 35 miles, still excellent
~30 miles of EV range may sound pathetic but it is incredibly useful.
CONGRATS!! Something finally went YOUR way!!!
Volt owner here , batter degradation on this set up is bad. Good news you can get new batteries, not the OEM, and get more range. None the less, I have been thinking about picking up an ELR. Yes, on my volt I rarely use any gas, also I’m in California and this thing zips in the mountains.
Keep the ELR, it will be a collector car in the future. 10 years from now sell it at Berrett Jackson for $150,000.
Plus, he already bought it at its depreciated price five years or so from now
Jessica is smart! Take the money and run!
Awesome car man, hopefully you win that black ELR for cheap, Cadillac makes some of the best looking cars and they always ride amazing
Hold on to it and have fun with it, Randy.
I don't blame you for wanting to keep the ELR. I'd want to also. A $9,000 profile is amazing and I'd want run with it in my pocket. But so nice! I'd keep it. If! I didn't need the money. Such a sick look car man
I love the ELR! Great outcome. Thought call, making $9k is sweet, but driving it is so nice.
That car looks so good! Every bit of it. The gauges are very beautiful as well
Beautiful looking car I don’t know much about them.
Good outcome and what a lovely car it is.
Drive it man ! Driving cars you love to drive is the best perk of your whole gig !
My round trip commute is 35 miles, about 17.5 miles each way. 28 - 35 miles works. I only burn a half tank of fuel every week (this in my 2018 ES350). Very tempting to start looking for one of these
You could charge while you're at work and get even better MPG. That's if they have a plug available for you.
Your ELR is absolutely stunning. The design is still bang up to date! And it’s got a beautiful interior too. Pity we don’t have them in the UK 😭
Terra haute & back . Love uncle Ron's house can't wait to see more loved the Mercedes & Celica content when you drove them back from Terra haute . I've only seen one ELR back in 2014 it was blue yours is much nicer sleek & unique. They're so futuristic.
Great deal Randy. Looks great. My Cadillac dealer has a black wing 88k with a 33k dealer adjustment on top of the 88k.
The Cadillac is a steal. So glad you were able to get the car fix. Whatever you do, you score big Randy 😎😎👍👍
Please take the trip, that car is stunning!!! Please more Cadillac content
Keep it. Enjoy it. It's a classy looking car. Sell it later when your ready.
I can say a big yes sale it because you always gonna have a different & special buy & that's what you do on your channel. Good luck
Me myself I would keep it. As a business owner I would sell it. I really love that car Randy.
I love that ELR Randy 👍 keep it
Nice come up Randy 🚘🔥👍. Keep it my friend, fuel isnt getting cheaper⛽️. Awesome little car 🫡
KEEP IT! The ELR is RARE and UNUSUAL.
The ELR is a sure take the money and run! So excited to the Monte Carlo build!
I think you should keep it. It looks great and it has the advantages of that BMW suv you used to have of the "extender" engine.
It might be expensive to keep up this car after the warranty has expired though.
As Steve Miller sang ..Take the money and run! .Love the channel!
Keep the ELR!
I'm with Jessica on this one, Take the money and run, that's a great win
Newer 12 volt battery hopefully, keep real good tires on the front because the quick torque and rain while turning is 👀 I have a volt and got a spare from a different Chevy and then I got two flats at once🤷♂️ play with hold mode and mountain mode when you trip. PPF the front, it sits low and grabs rock chips out of thin air. Great video!
so glad for you, that’s some solid deal and car is so fire dude, but i think electric motor must work in conjunction with gas one so to improve your efficient as hell. it’s literally luxury, stylish, comfort prius
what about that second Caddi ELR you were winning at the beginning?
I say hang on to it and just enjoy it. Plus you can also make a video repairing the Tesla this vehicle and the Prius if you still have it.
I love the ELR. Personally, I would keep it as my main back and forth car.
As Steve Miller sang.. take the money and run!.. Love the channel!
Had one of those Bentley's took care of it did take it in for service then sold it. Had no issues. 😊👍
I would have to keep that !! Such a great find nice job man
YAY THEY DID IT! That’s so good they were able to fix it! Hope your trip to Indiana went well (based your IG, seems like you are)! Love the content randy, love to see it!!! ❤
He's winning a second ELR, bring both to the channel.
Take the trip in the Cadillac and make another cool video , loved the last trip video with mike !
The problem with the heat in the tesla is a DCS Fuse located in the dcs box you need to open it and find the blow fuse looks like a big AA battery
Randy Absoloutely cannot wait for the Monte Carlo Ss. Build my favorite car as a kid. Hoping to find and buy one soon
Enjoy the ELR for a while. Why not? You are a car guy and it is a cool car !
Keep it and enjoy, could become an investment since so few were made.
