    Lately I've been working on multiple projects. From finally finishing techno tracks based on grooves from my live performances to send to labels, to working on a new live setup. So my desk and studio are a big mess. I decided to just accept that for now and just keep on working. And here we are. Wanted to record this IDM / breakbeat jam and left the desk as is.
    Although my focus is on techno mostly, I believe it's good to create in different genres as well every now and then. It's inspiring, good learning experience and it makes sure you don't force yourself too much to create something in particular. I created the initial idea for this one when I was on holiday in Nizza Italy. Looking out on the beautiful vineyard filled hills it was a perfect moment to relax with electronica vibes. I really tried to perform as much with this groove as possible. It's a bit of an experiment in how far I can push one pattern on the Syntakt. I've also hit the 72 parameter lock limit with this one. Wish it could handle more plocks because with 12 tracks that limit is fairly easy to hit :).
    100% Syntakt. Post processing: hint of bus compression and EQ and further processed through the Analog Heat. After that a the Ozone Maximizer.
    Enjoy!

    Great stuff man! I greatly enjoyed watching your techniques. I was thinking the same as the previous comment. I have been building layers with copy / paste of patterns - always leaving a path back. This was interesting to watch. Keep sharing!

    Great work. Way beyond the "jams" you tube usually provides me with (minimal Techno Jam with Digi-Something from elektron number 100). Reminds me on the J. Atkins´stuff with Model 500 and Skynet. It really is fun to me listning, like a good old Detroit....

    Dig the groove! Nice swing and syncopation. Been thinking of picking up a lemon drop myself, seems like a lot of granular fun packed into a little package.
    Would love a video on your process from taking live set grooves and developing them into full tracks. And the messy desk aesthetic adds that nice touch of authenticity if you ask me ;)

      Cheers Sean:) yeah might actually stick to that. Saves me time cleaning everything up for a clean desk shot ;).
      Going to launch a Patreon later this year where I'll stream a couple of times a month and this is definitely one of the things I'll be doing. Better suited for streams I think as it's a lot of work most of the time.

    Did you incorporate a Syntakt into your live performance setup (semi-)permanently or you stick with the DT-DN?

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  Год назад +1

      I did a few times yeah. But then returned to DT and DN. But I think I’ll keep changing things up every now and then because it keeps things fresh and interesting :)

      A bit yeah but nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to packed analog gear. Xone 96 also gets fairly hot . Heat also

    Sounds solid and is fun to listen to! I tend to shy away from the one pattern approach and instead enjoy to minutely plan a performance in advance since happy accidents can also quickly turn into not so happy accidents too. So respect for pulling this off :)
    Your mastering chain does not alter the character of the Syntakt, at least not to my ears. Every sound stands well and clear on its own, nothing is muddy. As it happens, this last bit has been a bit of a challenge for me with the Syntakt: While I can mix the digital voices just fine thanks to the base-width filter I sometimes find it rather hard to use the analog voices and the (hopefully only for now) limited effects, especially since the sound of the analog voices is dependent on the respective volume of each track. How do you go about this? Do you start with the analog tracks and then build around them? I can force myself to do that, but I find it much easier and more inspiring to just build up a groove whenever I come across a sound which makes me go "Oh nice, lemme use this", be it analog or digital. I've also found one of the analog machines (one of the drums) to always be out of tune, no matter if the Syntakt is freshly calibrated or not. Does the same thing happen on your Syntakt?

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  2 года назад

      Thanks for the kind words!
      And great question. It's almost an automatic process at this point but I tend to use samples, sounds, and in this case machines, in a way where they fit nicely in the frequency spectrum. Of course depending on the control I have over it with filters or EQ. In the case of the analog voices I either use it for kicks and basses and use the filter as sound design tool rather than mix tool. Or i use it for other sounds but then give up the single filter to cut the lows away as far as needed. The bandpass filter is also great for this. And the notch filter can be used to get rid of that area around 100 to 300 Hz to make something less muddy. Just to give you a few ideas.
      The out of tune machine, which one is it?
