A customer brought a mint bedford cf camper into my brothers garage. To have the rocker cover gasket changed. He had tried about three times himself before giving up. He said to my brothers partner you won't be able to do it either as was walking away. Rocker cover off weld a few tabs in it with the mig jobs a good one. Customer asks how did you do it John's reply when it needs a new gasket you will see for yourself. Classic when something won't fit you have to make it fit with a bit of thought. The customer was a real fussy bloke😁nice job al

What a cracking CF that is, always good when everything works straight away, I thinks thats a 2.0 engine the same as the Vauxhall Carlton had, the 2.3 was indeed a slant 4 petrol, as for whats next, I would go for the Austin, just because its complete, with the Morris being stripped you can never be sure its all there and replacing any missing bits wouldnt be easy.

Really interesting stuff. Surprised it was left a non runner with all of the engineers and mechanics they have at the tank museum, they can’t have been interested. This will be a great vehicle when it’s all done.

    • @ptonpc
      @ptonpc 2 года назад +2

The Tank Museum went through a stage of selling off a lot of stuff, I think they are not interested in anything that isn't a tank (Got to appeal to the public). This probably wasn't considered worth the storage space (The museum is now thinking getting rid of a lot of its centurions or chieftains. It's argument is it should only keep the historically significant versions instead of the complete series.

At just 7900 miles and maintained by the Army, I knew it would start !. I used to drive one of these now and then, not for the Army but something similar. They were very slow vehicles for their day even with a five speed box. The box could be a bit weak and break if you loaded the vehicle up too much. The steering and clutch wasn’t too bad once on the move, but any slow speeds they were awful compared to commercial vehicles today. The brakes were barely adequate for the load. The design of them was a hangover from the BMC vehicles 1960’s. But well maintained they gave good service.

I had a few of these back in the day they would out pull a Transit all week long. Put them against a headwind though and then you might as well walk home. The Opel 2.3 (Racing Engine) was a great engine and the same block as the petrol engine.
Oddly enough as I remember the reason the 2.3 was a slant engine was due to a V8 block literally having its cast split in half to make a slanted 4 pot engine.
This lump looks like the later Vauxhall 20ltr petrol though.
The original 2 wheel drive trucks also had the Merc upside down gearbox, so IE reverse gear was where first should be. Great vid though Buddy..👍

Check for an air leak where the exhaust bolts to the inlet manifold as it corodes and will only idle with a bit of choke on.i had an idle and running problem with my Cf van and it caused me grief for a while.only found the problem once I had removed the engine when I did a V8 transplant because some one wanted my manifolds they were shot lol. If it won't idle once hot just spray some car cleaner where the join is and it will run fine.

    Love 1985 CF2 4x4, that engine would have been a 1979cc Opel.
The 350p would have been the full sized Jumbo with duals on the rear axle.
The weakest feature was the braking capability, always needing emery paper to free that grabbing brake problem.
I owned one out in New Zealand until 1993 when the body rusted out.
    It was a modest 55,000k ( 33,000m ) of a 1984 CF350 with the slant 4 Vauxhall 2279cc & ZF4 speed manual box.
The CF2 did feature in short bursts in the NZ scene, but usually in fleet buyers whom bought when GM in NZ were discouraging the practice.
Those buyers were NZ telecom, Auckland Electric Power Board ( AEPB ), & NZ Police 🚔..
It was also common to have the Holden 202 ( 3310cc) inline 6 fitted to the CF2, when purchased for the buyer ( NZ ) St Johns Ambulance 🚑 😀.
Sorry, no 4x4 in NZ, last breakers yard in NZ for these vehicles " Horopito Motors", see Hubnut ( UK ), love your video, Regards Vernon ( NZ ).👌😄👍

Used to drive a pre facelift one, you had to change the coil wires around to get it to start, good acceleration but I still have a stoop from the CF lean whilst driving it.

Great video. I grew up in Transits, we tried a few CF's but they were generally nowhere near as good as the Transits so we quickly got rid and went back to Fords.
You got any Transits for a will it start?

The reason that probably started so well is the tank was probably filled with mod petrol they don't get the crap we have to buy

Definitely the opel 2.0 litre, better on fuel than the 2.3..I had a cf2 mini bus with auto box and it was good mpg, at 60mph.. more comfort than the transit.mk1/2..

Looks like it could be a Bostrom hydraulic seat???
    I had one on my 1977 2.3 CF1 ambulance.
    Don't ever buy an amulance.
The mileometers only go up to 100,000; mine had 77,000 on it, but had obviously done around 200 to 300,000 and knackered!!!

I've got a feeling that reg plate was in a series of plates issued to British Telecom/post office telephones around the time of Buzby and the privatisation of BT.

Why would you buy an ultra rare 4x4 Bedford with 7000 miles and leave it parked outside on grass. Not a scrap of preserving oil or even a spray of wd40 on it anywhere. Why do folks who are too lazy/skint or have no dry storage buy these things and just leave the door bottoms etc to rot out.

Really enjoyed watching that mileage .
I will look forward to seeing the next vid .
Do like the older stuff, however that Bedford astra van caught my eye, any chance of a will it start and a tour ? 😆

Was that a box of audio casettes in the dash? Looks about the right size. If so, be great to see what they were!
