Ohio State Fair OPENING DAY 2019

- Here's a look at most of the rides at this year's Ohio State Fair. Talley Amusements, Inc replaces Amusements of America in providing this year's rides, and the change is immediately evident, with a whole new collection for guests to enjoy. Some of the rides weren't operating, which is not surprising for opening day. One ride in particular, though, Sky Diver (aka Kissel's Military Base from subcontractor Kissel Amusement Co) was shut down permanently due to a failed ride inspection. I plan to visit the fair again soon and gather more video, especially of the rides that were closed opening day. Filmed Wednesday, July 24, 2019.
Some rides were from Kissel, such as the Matterhorn, Oxygen (Scat), and the Astro Wheel, the last of which Kissel Entertainment owns the two remaining ones in the country.
Since the Super Sizzler was open, that means the video was taken after 5:30 pm, because Super Sizzler didn't open until then. They had some last minute things to do, with the last thing being to put plastic mesh behind the fencing.
Big Kahuna was running earlier in the day; I went on it three times. It was making strange noises though which was probably why it was closed.
Space Roller's gondola wasn't spinning, but the arm was. They appeared to not be able to get the gondola to spin. They tested the ride on and off for about an hour.
Sea Ray wasn't fully assembled and needed the remaining couple lapbars put on.
These are the observations I had on the first day of the fair.
Sir Rides-A-Lot u seee that’s why I hate going on first days when they open cause not everything is situated kinda happen to me when I went casino pier they didn’t have all the ride open and the lap bar on the rockstar ride one of them weren’t working in testing phase so they had to close that lap bar down and open the ride but they didn’t have all the rides open

Talley shown on their website that there was a Zipper ride here, but I saw no sign of it in your video. Is the Zipper here or was Talley lying about it being there?
I saw that on their website as well, but I didn't see one at the fair.
That was the one ride they listed that they didn't have initially. They did have more stuff than they listed though.

Camryn Zanae For one, I live in NC and two, How was I suppose to know that you knew that some rides where there and not there? I'm not a mind reader ya know. And the NC State fair has the best rides and has the biggest midway. Has wayyy more rides than other state fairs.

Word came out that the Astro Wheel wasn’t going to open. Had to do with the inspection. Also, it was supposed to be taken down and removed.

They still could've had one of AoA's Pharaoh's Fury. Sea Ray is good but I'm not sure if it's the same height as Fury tho. One of the Pharaohs Fury ride operators at the Costal Carolina Fair told me it was bigger. That's true but as far as height? Idk.
When I went the first day of the fair, the ride wasn't fully assembled. They still had to install some lapbars and stuff. But when I went on the Sea Ray that used to come to Franklin County Fair, it only swung maybe half as high as Pharaoh's Fury.
As of 45 minutes ago they opened Wave Swinger, the second Tilt, and Choo Choo Express. Space Roller needs a new hydraulic motor apparently. Sorry for so many comments. They didn't say anything about Sea Ray though. The news report has been uploaded on YT
I greatly appreciate your input, and feel free to update whenever you want. Good to know that some of the rides are opening. I don't like visiting opening day because of the possibility of rides being closed, but when I heard that Talley was bringing in some rides I'd never seen before, I had to check 'em out. The Kissel rides are cool too, and I was really looking forward to seeing Sky Diver in action. Now it's gone. Thanks again!

That's the brand new Downdraft from Battech Manufacturing. They made a few as Dartron back in 2000; those Downdraft rides had a blue tower instead of a black one. I'm not a fan of the new Downdraft because it doesn't seem to bounce as much. It seems to spin faster than the old Hurricane ride though

@@blizzmuzic yep, I wonder what made them bring the Downdraft back, since there are a ton of Hurricanes to go around. Off the top of my head, Talley bought the Downdraft in this video earlier this year, brand new, and Knoebels also bought a new one to replace their old one after the outcry they got for uninstalling their old one.

Yep, they need to make sure all the rides are very safe, looks like they're doing a better job of inspecting rides! They should have been doing a better job before the accident happened!!!
It’s not uncommon for some rides not running on opening day, especially with so many rides to inspect. Add in the tragedy 2 years ago and they’re even more cautious. I was at the fair again Friday (8/2/19) and ALL of the rides were operating, minus Sky Diver that failed inspection and was dismantled early on.

They replaced it with the freakout it's smaller and has less seats but it's still the same build
Idk if its true or not, but the news in my area said someyhing about five of the fair rides were closed for inspection or failed inspection. But if I am wrong and they were talking about something different. Just respectfully tell me
It’s true that a few rides were closed for various reasons, but only one, Sky Diver, was permanently closed and dismantled because of serious concerns. I was there Saturday and Space Roller was the only thrill ride still closed, but it was testing. Sky Diver was gone.

Actually I’ll post on Facebook stated that the Asheville Will would not open at all and had to be removed from the fairgrounds. Amazing how the story gets twisted

if you ask me the quality of the Ohio State Fair has really gone down hill recently. that sucks. it was amazing when i was younger but now it just seems sorta meh.

ItsJudson the fireball there was a tragic accident in 2017 with that ride at the fair when the ride was swinging to the right it hit the support bar that holds the ride which cause a gondola to come off and 1 died and 7 other were injured later it was caused by excessive corrosion that was holding that one swing arm and there was photo tooken by a bystander before accident there appeared to be a crack running across the gondola that broke so they had to close the fair temporarily to get rid of the fireball after the tragic accident it was told they’ve been using the same metal throughout the years which cause the ride parts to get all old and rusty which broke it every swing was lowering the ride when the people were on it until boom the tragedy struck.

The Amusement company that did the fair was 100 times better than Amusements of America and their traveling junk show.

If you're taller than 5'10" I wouldn't recommend it. Those cars are cramped and the lapbar staples you in because it's attached to the top part of the car (hard to explain but the car's top folds outward and downward to seat passengers, then is pushed back and down to lock you in). I'm only 5'9" and my head touched the top of the car and my feet touch the front of the car

When I went on crazy mouse on one of the jerks I almost fell out 😨but I’m ok! This was like me 2nd time almost falling off a ride the other I almost fell out of was scorpion bc the bard lifted up and I slipped down on the seat it was scary!
