The only excuse that justifies this is the fact that both companies are now owned by Universal.
that's good
you better make more corrections
The title should say Top 10 Big Studio Animated Copycat Movies, because they’re not all Pixar or DreamWorks.
Cars was Pixar, CarGo was The Asylum, Over the Hedge was DreamWorks, The Nut Job was Gulfstream Pictures, Redrover International, & Toonbox Entertainment, Finding Dory was Pixar, Izzie’s Way Home was The Asylum.
Cargo is not DreamWorks
I never really saw Shark Tale as a copycat of Finding Nemo. It was more like a Parody of The Godfather and other Mob movies.
Agreed.
@@cheyblake2475
Especially when it stared two voices who are known for their mob movies
And better than nemo
True
Shark tale is better tbh
“Dreamworks arguably took a page out of Pixar’s book” The Secret Life of Pets is made by Illumination, not Dreamworks
Correction: Secret Life of Pets was made by Illumination, not DreamWorks. Thanks for letting us know of the mistake. It's still a copycat, but a copycat by Illumination. thanks!
And the nut job isn’t Disney
Dreamworks and Illumination are owned by the same company
@@Jollyjose251 Doesn't matter. Illumination and DreamWorks are still two separate studios, and DreamWorks wasn't owned by Universal yet by the time The Secret Life of Pets came out.
And cargo is not made by dreamworks
As a kid, I used to think that "Shark Tale" and "Finding Nemo" was the same movie, but maybe it's because they both starred fish.
maybe I don't know 🤨
That's like saying Spongebob and Snorks are the same
Shark Tale & Finding Nemo both features fish but their stories are different
Yeah every time someone made a movie starring of fish or even an animal everyone think that it's a copycat from a famous movie that they watch
Even though they don't have a similar design or story and they just got inspiration if they are claimed by the director or even the creators of it
Finding Nemo was about adventure and parenting while shark tale was about gambling and romance.
Ratatouille and Flushed Away may be slightly alike, but they are both great
I loved Flushed Away when it came out.
Slightly?? One story about a rat and the other one is about a mouse...
i agree and i highly doubt anyone copied anyone with those 2 cuz only a year apart is too short for how high quality the movies are. like i can understand if it was some trash straight to vhs/dvd movie but both were high quality and to me the stories are completely different.
@@peterang6912 the storyline is totally different
@@timmy3957 Plus, Flushed Away Came First.
I think comparing _Flushed Away_ and _Ratatouille_ was a bit of a stretch.
Very
Flushed Away came out in 2006
Ratatouille came out in 2007
Many of these are that way, especially "The Crudes" and "The Good Dinosaur" as the latter was inspired by a book and has spent years in production hell. I'd rather compared "The Croods" to the "Ice Age" and "The Good Dinosaur" to "Brother Bear".
Ratatouille was in production for years before flushed away even started.
they aren't even a copycat though the only thing they have similar is that the main character is a rat the premise of them are way different.
@@darknation7 yeah they were really stretching with a few of these
So did cargo it was made a DECADE after Cars by the way I think the animators were high while making this
@@Luis_257 Cargo is a definite rip off of cars that deserves to be on the list
Ratatouille and Flushed Away are not comparable at all
Well, they need to complete the Top Ten lol
@@jesseowenvillamor6348 as others suggested they could of done it with many other movies 😆
They just star rodents but the story is completely different plus flushed away was made mainly by aardman
@@petesmart1983 no comparison only the animal they're based on makes no sense
@@jesseowenvillamor6348 They could've used Ratatouille and Turbo to fill the list
This list should've been called Top 10 Animated Movie Copycats
Most of them aren't even rip offs
Only simulatity between Ratatouille and Flushed away, is that the main protagonist is a rat. That doesn't make them same.
Your right about that.
They Clearly Didn’t Do Their Research.
I really wouldn’t call The Secret Life of Pets a rip off of Toy Story, but okay. Using the same plot device doesn’t make another film a rip-off.
True.
The woody buzz story has been done so many times
If anything, Small Soldiers
SLOP is to similar to Toy Story IMO.
Ahh, the old “Antz Vs A Bug’s Life” debate. I don’t think either one ripped off each other. And even if they did, Antz was great on the mature side with adult situations, while A Bug’s Life proved to be the most marketable.
I agree to this. Antz was pretty much an adult version of the kids film. I thought they were both great on their own.
Antz was stated by the creators of dreamworks to be a big middle finger to Disney. So it was a straight up copy
Antz doesn't hold up and is pretty mid compared to A Bug's Life which still holds up
This happens in all movies, not just cartoons. Many movies are created using the same plots as others. They make a few changes such as songs, settings and sometimes color or sex of the characters, but the plot is still the same or very similar.
@@daking912 Just like Shrek
I love Secret Life of Pets, but I was also kinda disappointed, just because the trailer made it seem like it was gonna be more focused on all of the pets and what they do during the day, it was more of "journey home" movie mostly centered around Max and Duke. Which was great, just wasn't exactly what I thought it was gonna be. Poor marketing I guess.
It weird secret life of pets do some things like toys story doing before
Ya I absolutely hated the film bc it just felt SO unoriginal and didn't make sense for that story to be about Pets, yk?
Yeah the first 15-20 minutes were great when they were acting as pets, but as soon as they left the home, it was a pretty poor movie
I actually did a review of this movie on my channel and I thought the movie was pretty good
The Secret Life Of Pets is Good.Underrated
AntZ and A Bug's Life is still a heated debate! That should be a story in itself.
Hilarious that WatchMojo made a mistake.
The Secret Life of Pets was actually made by Illumination not DreamWorks. XD
also the Wild and Nut Job aren't Pixar either
@@TheRealMallard oh yeah surprised I didn’t catch that or forgot.😂
@@TheRealMallard When did they say they were? This list is about copycats of Pixar & DreamWorks movies, not a list about Pixar copying DreamWorks or vice versa.
And also Cargo Dreamworks did not made Cargo
I always thought "Coco" (Pixar) and "The book of life" (Dreamworks) were really similar. I know both of these were in production around the same time even though "The book of life" came out first. I know "Coco" got more positive reviews, I am partial to "The book of life" It just has a special place in my heart.
Book of life was made by 20th century fox, not dreamworks
@@diamondseanhd3621 Thank you for the correction. My bad. Hope you have a good day!
@@girlygirlAMV which basically means Disney ripped themselves off
Totally! Both are about family but different things that the main character wants
I know they're both disney, but in my personal opinion I thought "The Wild" and "Finding Nemo" were similar, not "Madagascar". I was actually shocked with how similar back then...
I knew Antz & A Bug's Life woulda been #1. I'm surprised Monsters, Inc or Shrek didn't have any copycats.
Chicken little is basically a copy of shrek
I loved Flushed Away and Ratatouille as a kid but I didn’t really think that they were similar to be honest
I didn't either! But I can see why people would think that
Me too
Flushed Away has a very different feeling than Ratatouille.
I think Toy Story and life of pets is kind of a stretch. You could argue Boss baby is same, but it’s just a trope.
I agree. I never thought that Secret Life of Pets could possibly be a ripoff of Toy Story. If anything, it is more of an animated ripoff of Homeward Bound 2: Lost in San Francisco now that I think about it.
I remember the controversy between Antz and Bugs Life and I remember in a show where they said that Antz made $170million in the box office but Bugs Life made $350million!
In my perspective point of view, “Shark Tale” is sleeping with the fishes while “Finding Nemo” has found a way into the hearts of fans and critics alike.
Both Dreamworks and Disney are just as bad as DC & Marvel copying each other.
Wait a minute, did you just compare Ratatouille with Flushed Away? And even assumed it's a copycat of it?
Those to movies are nothing alike!

Love the watchmojo videos ❤ keep up the excellent content!!

What? He was in a handful of movies and some shows as a young adult before CarGo
@@panthastaa34 really ok thanks for correcting me then
Haley Joel Osment's been the voice of Sora from Kingdom Hearts for about 20 years. He's in a Ted Bundy movie, he's in Silicon Valley, he's also doing voices for characters in DreamWorks productions.
‘Cars isn’t exactly the most beloved film in Pixar’s filmography’
How dare he say that. Am I the only one that loved cars when I was younger, collected all the toys, watched all the movies? Pls tell me I’m not…⚡️

3. Here’s a shocker, Shrek and Ice Age are also kinda copycats. Who can figure out why?

Can you do comic book origin of Marvel's the Elementals (Hellfire, Magnum, Hydron and Zephyr)?
To me, Finding Nemo shows fish living like fish. Shark Tale shows fish living like humans
I would love to see you make a vs. battle between Antz and A Bug's Life to see which one is better.
540: 10 -Not so much. Both might be from New York but the animation is different
9 -Similar title but that’s years apart
8 -I don’t think so. One wants to cook and the other has a difficult relationship with a friend and love interest, in a underrated gem
7 -No. Sorry. Both have a A-List cast but the comedy is more better in Over the Hedge
6 -Definitely. I like Finding Dory but the other one looks beyond bad
5 -NO!!!!!!!! Those two have nothing in common. Another thing, they’re years apart. I really don’t see how toys and dogs would be compared other than finding their way home
4 -This is a so so
3 -One is a family and has a great sequel but the other one is underrated
2 -I’m sorry but no. Father and son is more focused in Finding Nemo but in SharkTale is a big lie that Oscar uses to be famous, the father and son is one sided. Sorry, Robert De Niro
1 -Same year, similar story, huge cast, it stands out
In no way Ratatouille is a copycat of Flushed Away, both are goated movies
I guess Aardman wanted to follow in the trend of using CGI for Flushed Away rather than the signature claymation we’ve always known.
Then again, Aardman’s crew did say clay wouldn’t have worked for this film since the majority takes place in a water setting.
Turbo's similarity to Cars is even more blatant when you think about how Turbo, like Lightning McQueen, resurrected a small community of shopkeepers who had lost hope in finding more customers.
I think that Atlantis and Road to el Dorado are somewhat similar in concept. Both of them are set in cities with a great resource that are used to allow them to succeed, however an outsider wants to use the resources for the wrong reasons and the main characters have to stop each one from doing those things.
You forgot Megamind and Despicable Me
Despicable me is made by illumination and the only similarity is that the main characters are both villains that turn into heroes at the end
In retrospective The Nut Job felt like it's ripping off Over the Hedge
but it is a copycat
I did love Over the Hedge as a kid and I still do but The Nut Job is pretty mediocre
Can you do top 10 facts about Marvel's the Elementals(Hellfire, Magnum, Hydron and Zephyr)?
I felt like this tried too hard making certain films seem they “copied” each other
growing up I always preferred Antz over a bug's life.
3:14 wtf is that? Cars trilogy, on my opinion, is an underrated great work
WatchMojo: Do you agree with our picks?
Me: HELL NO!
This is interesting because we have gotten to the point where studios are more connected than they used to be. The way it worked years ago was that some movie would get made and another studio wouldn't know until the release. But then you have these things happen involving creative minds thinking alike. It's a little surprising that it has not sparked a inner conflict within studios.
Good thing you didnt mention Zootopia and Sing. I seen some "complain" that one was a copycat even though they don't have the same stories and such. (guess its due to animals living in a city and such they thought of)
Animal in city is overused
The finding nemo/shark tale was a stretch ngl
You should do a Top 10 or 20 Darrel Mayes skits. That'll be fun and new.
There are some shows here I had no Idea existed
Not to mention that both movies of #1 had a lawsuit against each other
Not going to lie this list is not a good list WatchMojo, Turbo is not even close of being a copycat with each other just because they both have to do with racing doesn't mean it's a copy of it same with ratatouille and flushed away just because they both have talking rats as the main character the story and premise of the story are not even close to each other.
13:20 I really thought a video discussing decades-old animated films would be safe from this reference. There is no escape.
I thought Secret Life Of Pets was Illumination.
it is
I read "Illumination" in a minion voice🤣
I remember watching The Wild as a child it's so nostalgic
The wild actually came first despite release date. In my opinion it is an underappreciated gem.
Meh, it’s okay, not my favourite.
Um, shounldn't it be called Top 10 Animated copycats instead of Pixar because some of these aren't Pixar and DreamWorks.
Ikr
All of them are Pixar and DreamWorks.
I never Thought Shark Tale as a Ripoff of Finding Nemo! I always saw Shark Tale as a Parody of The Godfather.
Nemo and Shark Tale are different. The fathers are practically opposite, one is a journey, another a scam. One had romance, other friendship.
Antz > A Bug’s Life
A Bug's Life
Only die hard Dreamwork’s fans say that. Critically speaking Bug Life is better than Ants.
Kids movies are usually seen during childhood. Most adults lose interest in kids movies as they grow up. So, it doesn't matter if film makers use the same plot over and over. Because when they make films in the past, they create them to cater to the people of that era. When they make a similar movie in the future, they make them to cater towards the kids in the new era. So, if it's the same plot people usually don't know because it's a whole new set of kids.
The Secret Life of Pets is actually a Illumination movie dude. It's not a DreamWorks movie.
A friend of mine who knows a lot about movies says the original Little Mermaid closely followed Anderson, but it was changed because children cried too much at the ending so they changed it to a happily ever after story.
so your friend just stated the fucking obvious
A bugs life is better than Antz.
ye
Antz is way better lol
@Carlin Ytc when I saw it in this video it looked like A DAMMN NIGHTMARE
i'd say turbo is similar to planes because it has an underdog story.
I was going to say that Planes is definitely considered a Disney PIXAR Cars spinoff
Never really thought of shark tales as a copycat of anything. I saw the movie as its own thing when I was growing up. As for Ants and a bugs life, they were copycats of each other outright. I grew up watching Ants because my parents had a VHS copy of it, and when I was 8 we got a copy of a bugs life. It was actually kind of fun for me to pick out the similarities and differences between the two movies, and I still find them both enjoyable today.
The copy of Madagascar looks like a beautiful film!
The moment I saw this pop up I was immediately reminded of Antz and A Bug's Life and had the feeling that would be number 1
Over The Hedge and Flushed Away are both DreamWorks movies in 2006.
CarGo was made by "Asylum", not by DreamWorks. And people will never admit, there were times that DreamWorks was better than Disney. Its true.
I have troubles accepting anthropomorphic cars and yet I have no problem with talking snails. I suppose it has something to do with one of them actually being alive. "Turbo" was way better than I imagined it could be and the series wasn't bad either. "Cars" was okay, just tough to accept.
Nah Cars is miles better than Turbo
@@jesseowenvillamor6348 😆 I like the way you worded that. Nicely done.
Lmao, I've also found myself being taken out of animated movies because it's too "unrealistic", and then wondering why, because it's not like talking snails is any weirder than talking cars.

I’m sorry, what?! Ed Asner, Melissa McCarthy and Hayley Joel Osment in Cargo? The movie itself is bad enough but why would they have a A+ List cast in this? I think they’re the ones that are ripped off. The cast in Cars in phenomenal, even for the other two movies.
You know, in Sweden, The wild is listed as one of the mainline Disney animated movies, but not Dinosaur or Winnie the Pooh from 2011. I bought an official Blu-ray collection with every movie from Walt Disney animation studios from Snow white to Big hero 6 that had the Swedish order of movies, so The wild was included among every other high budget blockbuster like Lion king and Little mermaid, but no Dinosaur or Winnie the Pooh. Just to be clear, the collection didn't have any other movies from the smaller studios like direct-to-DVD movies or movies like a Goofy movie or the Winnie the Pooh movies except the first one.
I disagree with Ratatouille vs Flushed Away, The Croods vs The Good Dinosaur, and Finding Nemo vs Shark Tale. Really the only similarities between them were the animals (or setting) they had. The first two had rats, the second two had cavemen and was set in prehistoric times, and the third two had fish. Those are really the only major similarities. Otherwise the stories are vastly different.
