- Very nicely restored '56 Olds Holiday in a classic Red/White color combination. 324 CID Rocket V8 with power steering and Automatic transmission. Perfect for cruising the entire family around in. Additional information at: westcoastcollectorcars.com
In the 70s I owned three 56 Oldsmobiles, a black 4 dr post, two 2 door hardtops, one white, the other red and white. Olds brought out in 56 the hydramatic jetaway auto trans which shifted far smoother than the hydramatics of previous years. The 56 324 V8 was higher compression and some other tweaks, it got with the program, compared to the 324 V8 in 54 and 55 Olds. I found the car to be unusually stylish and it got about 17 mpg highway driving, good for a big, powerful car. You might also appreciate I am originally from Portland, Oregon and moved to Texas some time ago. The 56 Olds has got to be one the best Olds offerred.
My dad had one of these, same year ,color, 4 door hardtop. Great car!
My first car was a 1956 Olds 88 Holiday four door hardtop white and light green two tone! Had factory green and white leather seats, a Novi Air Conditioner and only 50,000 miles in 1965 when I bought it. It was a nice car to drive. Relatively fast for the day and could drive through a brick wall if needed. I was very proud of that car! Many fond memories of dating my future wife. Drove it for three years until soft plugs started going out. Wish I still had it.
Thank you Cliff, nice memories. Rich
Magnifique voiture de l’âge d’or des voitures américaines.
Yes indeed! Thank you.
I liked the Wheel Covers for that Year
Beautiful car. Thank you for video. Two comments: 1) in 1956 the 324 engine with Quad carb had 240 H.P. not 260 H.P. (2) in 1956 Jetaway automatic transmission was installed for the first time. This is four-speed, not three. The shift from first gear to second is so soft that it does not feel. If selector is set at L, auto part at 1 and change to
X
Not a fan of the Jetaways. They always felt like they were slipping and weren’t nearly as robust as the bulletproof Hydramatics that they replaced.
That was the TV advertising that Oldsmobile once used. Olds once had a 455 Rocket as their top engine, as in the 98 or Toronado.
Beautiful car!
Thank you!
Very nice Olds! Lots of fond memories I did a total restoration on a 56 88 2 door hard top in the early 90's same exact color combination. Wonderful automobiles.

I remember riding on my bike as a kid and not looking where I was going, running in to the front of this car, and getting the point of that hood jet right in my navel. Hurt like hell.

Key Fob..?
Hydra-matics were four speeds.
Hydramatics were 3 speeds during most of the 60s all of the 70's and part of the 80s.
@@larryhawkins3294 56 Olds had 4 speeds.I raced my daddy's.
Yep, we had a '58 Olds with a 4-speed Hydramatric. The gear selector had an 'S' position, called 'Super', that just downshifted from 4th gear to 3rd.
Every Hydramatic has 4 speeds...
Lovely car, like the review, however I'm from Cape Town South Africa n these vehicles not available here anymore, what's the difference or differences between like a 'normal' oldsmobile and the Holiday version? Also between the super 88 and the 98? Thank you.
The Holiday was Oldsmobile's name for the hardtop body style - pillar-less between the windows - the B pillar. If you had a pillar, it was not a Holiday. The 98 was the designation for the top of the line model. It was more luxurious and a little bigger - longer wheel base I believe, with different chrome treatments and seat material. The 98 had more options than the 88 line as standard. The Super 88 was the top level on the 88 line, chrome and interior appointments. More standard options than the regular 88. Painting schemes were also different.
@@montymatilda fantastic, thank you so much for that info
My parents looked at GM cars in late 1955 or early 56. Perhaps at the auto show. Therefore I have some advertising brochures in pristine condition for 1956..especially Oldsmobile.
Куда делись те автодизайнеры ? Давайте опять начнём такие машины делать
I agree! thank you for your comment. Rich
Why do we have to have the nowadays cars that suck?
We were all waiting to hear the sound of the engine and the train ruined the entire video.
Welcome to my world! I've had to redo so many videos because of that train storming by at just the right moment. I probably said "To h--l with it on this video. Sorry about that. Rich
Trunk floor doesn't look as good as you say
Thanks, Randy

Rocket V8 must have sounded spectacular. I would imagine.
