Noise cancelling is a mess in this headphone. As you said, when moving around, it feels like the headphone is bouncing up and down your head, which i think comes from a poor seal of the pads. Because no matter how tight I try to adjust them, they still feel loose. And they get worse. I rode the subway and all the buzzing from the train not only did it leak in, but it felt like it was being amplified. It was unbearable. What i did was to tune down the noise cancelling to a middle level and it sort of fixed the issue. But still, they are not good to go out and about, which is a bit missing the point from ANC heapdhones. I hope they can do something via a firmware update
It’s weird that you find that because my ears get a decent deal despite having a pretty large head. I do have to say that the middle frequencies like talking and what note aren’t really blocked out and that may be why you heard more of the train.
The headband is too short for those who have a normal big head. I had to return this. I'm not the only one. I found several people who had similar issues from replies. Unfortunately, no reviewer points this out. I did not have any size issue with any other headphones.
I too have found that I generally prefer tws/nc earphones when I'm out in public vs higher end IEMs bc the noise canceling offers more benefit than the sheer technical ability of the higher end options. I'm not sure, though, that I think Bathys offers any substantial benefit vs a tws earbud?
Convenience is king when traveling and EDC uses, that's why airpods is people's favorite IEMs for a while, even DMS admit he use it 90% of the time compared to his other gears.
Have to comment again on this great Headphone. I received it now and am listening to the FF VII Remake OST Symphony Orchestrated game music... I am literally crying on how great the sound on this Headphone is, and i havent even got myself a good DAP as well as the application for this Headphone to download the update. This is just perfection! Thanks for your review and the great work again.
I can't bring myself to buy active headphones with batteries that aren't user replaceable. I understand that that is a nontrivial problem to solve but I don't care. Figure it out, headphone-makers!
Hey resolve wanted to ask if you think the bathys is better than audeze maxwell,i'm looking for something wireless,i don't care all that much about the noise canceling feature because i'm gonna use it mostly in home, the main thing here is sound quality
I actually think it comes down to comfort more than anything else. If you can handle a heavier headphone, there's a good argument in favor of the Maxwell. But I wear headphones all day, and for that the Bathys is definitely better. Also, if you prefer a more relaxed, thicker lower midrange kind of sound, go Bathys, if you prefer a more clarity-focused presentation go Maxwell (stronger ear gain).
thank you!,i have the hd800s and no matter how much i eq them i feel like i can't get enough punch from them, will the bathys provide it? cause i saw in your review of the maxwell that it doesn't have that punch as well@@ResolveReviews

HUGE DISCOUNT on the original Focal Bathys here in New Zealand and Australia at the moment. 45% off aint no joke and a steal. Just sold my Airpods Max for $650 and bought the Bathys for $820 ❤ $170 dollar upgrade
I am by no means an Audiofile but I loved the look of these headphones but not at $1200AU. I was waiting to see if Apple was going to release the Airpod Max 2. Then I also found these Focal Bathys on sale and just had them delivered today for $650... 100 bucks less than the Airpods Max's are going for now and 100 more than the XM5'S. 2 hours in and I am loving them👌
Friend from work let me try these for a bit and I ended up using bathys the whole day. I wear XM5s everywhere I go and was shocked by the huge difference in audio. Friend then tells me they're 650 and not like 1350. I bought them. Xm5 are now just gym headphones
The Bathys are quite placement sensitive. I've found with my big head and weird ear canals, angling the front of the front of the cups outward a bit with most of the pressure behind the ears gives me the sound I'm looking for with the comfort to boot.
@@patrickmartineau1008usually with large drivers, shifting the headphone can affect the sound such as the Hifiman Arya or HE1000 but since the drivers are much smaller on the Bathys, it should not matter how you place the headphones…it is weird that you get such different sound effects
Dude I love lights, they flex so much ... I like new color but original is still going strong. Agree with you,, these are all-day headphones, comfortable, excellent battery and everything. If anything, they should make a charging stand for headphones in the future, that would be nice touch.
Had both and returned the T+A. They sound good to me but they're not as comfortable, they don't feel like full sized headphones as compared to the Bathys. I also prefer the sound on the Bathys, but that's perhaps because I'm very used to it now.
Would be great to get some reviews on the mic / call quality. The little section in this video seemed decent, but would love to see some call testing in different environments, as well as sitting at desk and doing calls in Zoom/Teams etc. Wired vs Bluetooth. I would have thought that most folk buying these would have one eye on music, but the other on work (to pay for the damn things 😂)
I just wanted to add a bit of a PSA that Richer sounds who I purchased my Focal Bathy headphones from have been in touch with Focal and Focal have informed Richer sounds that's the battery is not replaceable at all. When the battery goes it cannot be serviced.
04:40 I love my Bathys, but the ear cups aren’t angled inside like my Bose QC, and also the ear pads are flat, not angled, so the Bathys touches my ear, and I’m not a fan of that at all. If Focal would produce an angled ear pad I’d be on cloud nine! For me, that’s the only real drawback of this headphone.
How can an audiophile Bluetooth headphone not have LDAC? I love Andrews reviews, but I'm surprised he doesn't even mention it. I believe the Maxwell has LDAC for less than half the price.
I love mine but the BIGGEST issue I have is the sounds it keeps making 'beeping and door knocks' during phone calls on an iPhone. Focal has ignore my pleas for help too which doesn't bode well with me
I just bought a pair of these. I find them exceptionally good. Certainly a massive step up from my ageing Ferrari Cavalino T350i’s - fine tuning them with the sound test and EQ modes really helped. I did find the listening to really complex music whilst travelling on a bus with the silent noise reduction switched on did produce some odd effects which disappeared when I switched to soft noise reduction. At home I don’t need the noise reduction which sounds the best to my ears.
the software update does also apply to the none dune edtition i assume?! Anyway thanks for the nice review on bowers and wilkins, lewinson and the focal. Big thanks for that.
Yep the software update is for all versions of the Bathys. You don’t have to worry about missing out as the new Focal Dune color way is just a new look to the Bathys, they simply released a big update at the same time they released the Dune edition.
Nice review. I'm wondering, however, if the noise cancelling issue you sensed while walking around might be helped by trying the weaker setting, as maybe it won't try so hard to compensate. Just a thought that came to my head when you were mentiong it.
When I received my Bathys almost a year ago I was really disappointed in my purchase especially for the price. The Focal punch and detail wasn’t there. But as I used it more and more the drivers must have broken in and loosened up and they’re a fantastic portable. I use a lightning to usb c OTG cable and quality steps up tremendously with lossless source music versus Bluetooth but the Bluetooth is convenient and sound pretty good as well.
Hi mate. Can you explain what OTG means? I tried a standard white Apple lightning to usb cable for my iPhone with my bathys but couldn’t get a sound 😢. Any help appreciated ! Cheers
@@rockon856 OTG or On The Go cables tell the iPhone to become the source host device on the lightning side so it can connect to the USB DAC in the bathys (or I use it with a Schiit DAC) as a destination device. Without it your regular usb c to lightning connected DAC both sides are destination and nothing happens. I use inexpensive OTG cables from Meenova on the usual mass online store.
Like others on this thread, I had to send them back because they were too small, which never happened with any other headphone. I seem to have a relatively large head, but not a super-large head. I have a hard time understanding why they cannot add some moderate further extension for the headband.
That’s weird because I’ve found the headband to be quite big. I have a pretty large head and have the click increments at 6 out of 8. Of course they look absolutely wack considering I need to use such a large setting but the sound quality really is unlike no other for Noise Cancelling Headphones.
You wear glasses, do you have any seal issues while using these? I have B&W headphones that break seal pretty easily, and I have similar frames to you.
Can you compare the earpad opening on the Bathys to the traditional closed-back Focals? I had a pair of Elegias and found that the opening was a bit too small for my big audiophile ears. LOL
Thanks for the review! I'm getting my Bathys the day after tomorrow and after playing with a demo unit a bit I was left disappointed with a very basic EQ functionality of the official app. So my question is - what do you recommend to use for EQ with an Android phone, is there a good app for that?
I may be getting a pair in the next week, and I'm super excited...but to answer your question, I use Wavelet on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra for EQ purposes and I've been very happy with it

As someone with big but not huge ears, I have to say im pretty frustrated by the reviews of all Focals claiming how great they are. They are some of the least roomy headphones I have ever tried on. The closed versions are completely unwearable. For a portable headphone, flat not fitting a large number of people should disqualify it from being claimed as "the best". Other portable headphones have figured out how to be small and lightweight while at least allowing a modicum of comfort, or at least not outright discomfort (Sony, Bose)
True but tbh, these still have better ear space. All the other Manufacturing like Bose and Sony make the ear pads sit on top of the ears. That is why these are huge looking compared to Bose. Another option is the Aipods Max as I’ve heard about the ear space being pretty big.
Just got the 1st additions in the mail about a week or so ago. I thought initially that I wish I didn't splurge on the Focal Celestee that I've had for a month or two. But if the battery life is 30 hrs. on a single charge for the Bathys,..you can tell why, not enough volume. I realized a/f buying the Celestee,& portable dac, that's they're really not made for transporting around,..esp. if you need your hands. I guess both function for their specific purpose?
My Airpods Max died suddenly, (after 2,5 years) so I had to look for something ew. After trying Sony XM5, B&W PX8 (really bad sound for its price) and Momentum 4 (seriously a sony-killer and THE budget option), I went for the Bathys, though I really miss the Airpods ANC and Buttons, the Sound is a good step up and the design has grown on me. Now I hope, that they refine the ANC. When I really need silence, I go for my Airpods Pro 2 as they run circles around the Bathys ANC.
I had been accepting the sound of my QC35 for wireless listening... but I had been looking for a more neutral & detailed substitute. I did not found it yet. All I have tried was not good enough (I was exited about the Dali hype, but when I did try them the sound level was really low). In the last two years some new contenders got to the market and make me think if I should listen some of them. I am thinking about the Bathys and about the Master&Dynamic MW65. To give you some context I listen my music on a Topping DX7 Pro and I am user of Focal Elegia (no eq but needs some), Dan Clark AEON 2 Noir (I eq down a weird bump un the bass, but I like the details). Do you think with the Bathys I would get as detailed sound as in the Noir, but with a more neutral sound? What about soundstage? Thanks in advance!!
The Zenfone 10 hast Aptx Adaptiv and losless and some Dirac correction Software! Maybe in the near Future you can buy an losless Adapter which you can use with bathys. And furthermore IT hast some Dirac Software, who are known for theire Roomcorrection Software, which are noticybly improving the Soundstage and clarity of the bathys.
I use Bathys a lot, and almost every night for gaming. Occasional listening session too. Elegia is far better. Tuning is not according to most people, but that doesn't necessarily make Bathys the better headphone.
Please please tell me. Did they add an “off” mode to the noise canceling? The ANC kinda sucks on a bumpy bus I take in commute which caused me to return them. The sound is magnificent though
I had these for a while. I enjoyed the sound signature but it didnt get loud enough for my tastes, could do with another 50% increase in volume, I wanna feel the slam & punch. edit: Beautiful pair of headphones though.

It’s weird that you find that because my ears get a decent deal despite having a pretty large head. I do have to say that the middle frequencies like talking and what note aren’t really blocked out and that may be why you heard more of the train.
You must not have a big head .
The headband is too short for those who have a normal big head. I had to return this. I'm not the only one. I found several people who had similar issues from replies. Unfortunately, no reviewer points this out. I did not have any size issue with any other headphones.
Seeing reviews mostly reving about Momentum 4s and Focal Bathys as the best sounding headsets for audiophiles, im ordering for both. 😂
Any favorite between the two? I’ve got the M4s. Love the sound quality but the headband is so uncomfortable.
😢 I just bought Focal Bathys (original one) 4 months ago...
I really love the new color. I'm willing to sell it second hand for the new color.😂
I'm still debating it lol
how much?
The price is justified looking at that beautiful headphone. Top notch audio quality too for its segment, I don't doubt it.
I too have found that I generally prefer tws/nc earphones when I'm out in public vs higher end IEMs bc the noise canceling offers more benefit than the sheer technical ability of the higher end options. I'm not sure, though, that I think Bathys offers any substantial benefit vs a tws earbud?
Ditto, I prefer 3ANC over my maxwell.
Maybe comfort is a benefit? Which TWS earbud is most comfortable for you? That's what bothers me about earbuds and even some headphones.
You're pathetic
I have these..I also have Stellia ordered. If the Stella's sound so much better than the Bathys I will be thrilled..The Bathys sound is impressive...
I can't bring myself to buy active headphones with batteries that aren't user replaceable. I understand that that is a nontrivial problem to solve but I don't care. Figure it out, headphone-makers!
They've said it is replaceable. Whether it is USER replaceable, that I'm not sure about yet.
If it is, it should be in the manual, right?@@ResolveReviews
I would buy non replaceable battery headphones but not for 700 lol
What ANC with user replaceable batteries are there now days? It's the reason why I'm still stuck with my Bose QC25.
Focal charges $100 for labor and $100 for the battery
@@barlevi5683 not as much as a clear or utopia, if we're thinking of the same quality. But yeah I think the bass is better on the Bathys compared to HD 800... but totally different headphones with very different sound
@@barlevi5683 Try using an OTL tube amp with your HD800s. That will get more bass out of them.
@@barlevi5683 i bought Dan clark aren 2 noir before look up the bathys. and asked a guy who had tried both of them and he recommended me the Dan clark. i personally feel good, but never get the chance to try bathys. and the Dan clark the voice is so small when i was just got it. but and searched it on the online and solved it.
i thought bathys probablly better?
Thanks for this Andrew, much appreciated
I have compared Focal Bathys and Focal Celestee, and despite the Bathys sounds good, Celestee sounds even better. With more room feeling, more energy, more details. And I can't say that Bathys is more comfortable. Their pads are softer, but not as big as at Celestee. And clamp forse of Celestee was not very strong, though I have a big audiophile head too))
The celestee are a full sized passive headphone, they of course sound superior :)
I’m deciding between these and Audeze Maxwell. Will use for both music and movies.
I would definitely avoid light fabrics on any wearables
Let's hope they will add LDAC as they hinted in the past with the original pair are there any news about that??
That would be wonderful. Do firmware upgrades allow for added BT codecs?
HUGE DISCOUNT on the original Focal Bathys here in New Zealand and Australia at the moment. 45% off aint no joke and a steal. Just sold my Airpods Max for $650 and bought the Bathys for $820 ❤ $170 dollar upgrade
Grabbed a pair of Utopia 2022 for an absolute steal (relative to MSRP). Couldn't be happier.
2 hours in and I am loving them👌
@rocket0123 yeah Apples slow on releases.I stayed Android my last upgrade.
Friend from work let me try these for a bit and I ended up using bathys the whole day. I wear XM5s everywhere I go and was shocked by the huge difference in audio. Friend then tells me they're 650 and not like 1350. I bought them. Xm5 are now just gym headphones
Spewing I didn't know about these back then :( Im wanting a pair so bad but too expensive. Who was selling them at that price?
Nothing softer than the utopia ear pads. Maybe you mean more density? Fantastic long term review!
The Bathys are quite placement sensitive. I've found with my big head and weird ear canals, angling the front of the front of the cups outward a bit with most of the pressure behind the ears gives me the sound I'm looking for with the comfort to boot.
Are the drivers angled?
@@Hijynx87 I don't believe so. But I have weird ear canals and I find myself doing this with other headphones.
@@patrickmartineau1008usually with large drivers, shifting the headphone can affect the sound such as the Hifiman Arya or HE1000 but since the drivers are much smaller on the Bathys, it should not matter how you place the headphones…it is weird that you get such different sound effects
@@dbean5174Very weird.
@@Hijynx87yes they are I have a pair
Dude I love lights, they flex so much ... I like new color but original is still going strong. Agree with you,, these are all-day headphones, comfortable, excellent battery and everything.
If anything, they should make a charging stand for headphones in the future, that would be nice touch.
I'm also curious if you've checked out the T+A Solitaire T. I've been listening to that for the last couple weeks and I'm pretty impressed
That one is on my radar for sure.
Clamps too hard
I know what you think about the PX8 but I think they sound Fuuuun..! ✌️and the bass drowns out traffic and footsteps
Yup… the Focal Bathys are all of that! I have B&W PX7’s, had the PX8… and the Bathys are far better than either of the B&W headphones
Resolve is Doug Demuro for headphones.
the software update does also apply to the none dune edtition i assume?!
Anyway thanks for the nice review on bowers and wilkins, lewinson and the focal.
I am not interested in comparing headphones technology, drivers, features and so on for hours through, but do respect the ever growing community which offers a brief detailed overwiev and opinion, whichever is the best headphone on the market, so i could make up my mind on what headphone suits my needs in roughly under an hour.
Big thanks for that.
Yep the software update is for all versions of the Bathys. You don’t have to worry about missing out as the new Focal Dune color way is just a new look to the Bathys, they simply released a big update at the same time they released the Dune edition.
Need to review the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones.
Nice review. I'm wondering, however, if the noise cancelling issue you sensed while walking around might be helped by trying the weaker setting, as maybe it won't try so hard to compensate. Just a thought that came to my head when you were mentiong it.
Focal Bathys vs B&W Px8? I am a huge fan of bowers and wilkins but I would like the comparison lol
Superb review
Love what you're doing bud! Are you still using these headphones? Focal Bathys
Focal Bathys VS Audeze Maxwell ?
I heard the Maxwell build quality is terrible and no ANC
@@btam83build quality is solid, but no anc or carrying case. More meant for gaming/office vs travel
Weaker ANC modes are typically for windy environments, where ANC is detrimental at high.
It's also really good to relive the "sound pressure" feeling when using it all day
You wear glasses, do you have any seal issues while using these? I have B&W headphones that break seal pretty easily, and I have similar frames to you.
Personally love the self deprecating jokes, they always make me laugh and then reflect on myself and how similar I am LOL
I may be getting a pair in the next week, and I'm super excited...but to answer your question, I use Wavelet on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra for EQ purposes and I've been very happy with it
@conroyscott2206 thanks! As of today I've already sold my Bathys, no EQ magic could ultimately fix the sound for me. I am now a very happy owner of Dali io-12, these headphones are just sublime, just another league
Resolve, how do the units sound when listening through the USB-C and internal DAC? You briefly mention it but do not go into detail. Thanks.
700 dollars is a big money dip for a pair of wireless headphones. And here I thought I was crazy for spending 250 on Momentum wireless 3
So you bought a mediocre headphone for 250, what you wanna get now, a cookie?
@@RafiGishyeah…Sennheiser has some work to do on their ANC headphones. While the Momentum 3’s are tuned decent, the Momentum 4’s are horribly tuned. They have more bass than the Bose 😂
My dune colored Bathys is coming in tomorrow morning (IM SO EXCITED BRUH)! I'm assuming that soft/firmware updates are via the tailored app, yes? Was just wondering as it seems like the new updates are imperative for the Bathys.
I have the Black ones --- These Dune Edition look AMAZING!!! ...My Issue is they dont Best the "PX8s" ...So sad!
Just bought a pair of these brand new for $650 aud which is very relatively cheap, no not the Dune version. I'm looking forward to getting them.
Where from?
Thank you for this informative review. I am considering replacing my BOSE QC45 headphones with these Focal Bathys headphones, due to a consistent crackling in the left ear cup of my BOSE. The QC45's are not even 2 years old and BOSE is not responding to my Emails. How would these Focal headphones compare to the QC45's. Thank you in advance.
My Stellia doesn’t get much use and I want to go full wireless since I’m always outside nowadays. Decisions decisions
Why would you use these with a DAC and cable vs. bluetooth? Is there a difference in sound quality? I own the Bathy but want to know if I'm missing anything by not using them with a DAC.
I went to a party and they gave these out for free 😵💫
Got the silver version…love em to bits 😀
Are there any plans to review the Zeus Elite? Thanks in advance.
Not at the moment
Thanks Resolve! Is it true that wearing them will attract sand worms?
Facts
@@TheHEADPHONEShow Fact: the regular coloured Batys sounds great and I now use it instead of the Celestee for casual listening.
Fact: If you wear your Batys in the Dune Universe, it will cause your eyes to glow a deep blue, even in DAC mode.
I got scared when i saw that title. I thought it might come with a better driver or something, having bought the Bathys only a couple of weeks ago... ooofff. Cheeers
Which of these are the BestBluetooth Wireless Headphones 🎧?
1)Mark Levinson No. 5909
2)EDIFIER STAX SPIRIT S3
3)FOCAL - Bathy’s Headphones
4)Bowers and Wilkins PX8
5)Sennheisser over ear Headphones
6)Sony Headphones
In terms of sound quality, which one would win, Audeze Maxwell or Focal Bathys
Just got the 1st additions in the mail about a week or so ago. I thought initially that I wish I didn't splurge on the Focal Celestee that I've had for a month or two. But if the battery life is 30 hrs. on a single charge for the Bathys,..you can tell why, not enough volume. I realized a/f buying the Celestee,& portable dac, that's they're really not made for transporting around,..esp. if you need your hands. I guess both function for their specific purpose?
On my PC I use them at around 20-30% volume, that's a wild statement haha
@@Darthozzan13yeah I’ve found 30% in quiet songs and 20-25% in louder songs to be good.
Man I love Bathys
Are they truly worth every penny ?
I love loud volume and i love bass .
Sadly they are to small for me. I hope they will add some "headband clicks" in future versions
About the update with the personalization feature: is that saved on the headphone when connected to different devices?
with this firmware update it’s better than my AirPods Max 🤩
Do these have better sound quality than the AirPods max? Looking to see if I should replace them for this.
Does this one have the capacity to reproduce cd quality 16bit/41khz when it’s wired?
Yes even 24/192KHz through internal USB-C DAC
The Zenfone 10 hast Aptx Adaptiv and losless and some Dirac correction Software! Maybe in the near Future you can buy an losless Adapter which you can use with bathys. And furthermore IT hast some Dirac Software, who are known for theire Roomcorrection Software, which are noticybly improving the Soundstage and clarity of the bathys.
Apart from noise cancelling how is it better than the Elegia? Does it have more punchy bass. Does it have cleaner Highs?
Bathys tuning is wayyy better than Elegia.
I use Bathys a lot, and almost every night for gaming. Occasional listening session too. Elegia is far better. Tuning is not according to most people, but that doesn't necessarily make Bathys the better headphone.
@@ResolveReviews Elegia tuning is easily fixed with EQ.

Could you please give a comparison between the Bathys and Maxwell? My intensional use is for Gaming on a couch
Looks nice! For me, this or wait until next April for AirpodMax 2. Not sure if I have the patient for 6-7 months.
How is it compared against Dali IO-12?
Good question .
Please please tell me. Did they add an “off” mode to the noise canceling? The ANC kinda sucks on a bumpy bus I take in commute which caused me to return them. The sound is magnificent though
No, but there's a softer mode
Have you tried turning the ANC off with the app? Also, I too had that issue before but after a software update it got fixed.
would you get these or sony mdr z1r? slight price difference aside
I had these for a while. I enjoyed the sound signature but it didnt get loud enough for my tastes, could do with another 50% increase in volume, I wanna feel the slam & punch. edit: Beautiful pair of headphones though.
My only worries would be that once the battery died could these be used wired instead?
No they cannot, but Focal has a battery replacement program
Sadly, at the moment, the Bathys must be used with the Headphone turned “on”, meaning that if your battery dies, you must charge it.
I just bought a pair a few weeks ago and wear them constantly, also got them half price
Houston we have a problem, under neath the headband that soft material is fading away I notice only had my focal for maybe 4 months
Are these considered “gaming” and is it better than the Maxwell ?
Which is the best for travelling flying for use with a macbook please?
the bathys but if you want cheaper, get the Accentum Plus. note, the accentum plus not the non plus version
