*gives up Life Bonus so Demi can keep Focus + Divine Shot* *game repeatedly hands me obscure situations where Life Bonus would've saved me* The Infinite Light range is tragic, and some Luci deaths are to be expected (even Life Bonus doesn't protect against wacky stuff like High King into Hades crits or double High King) but the most egregious of these is definitely the first death. Kagutsuchi phase 1's damage is boosted or reduced depending on the moon phase, meaning Omnipotence + a regular attack on Demi-Fiend while the moon phase is 6/8 is a range kill (at full moon he only uses Vast Light so this isn't an issue there.) This has nothing to do with the video, but I'm starting to think the AI in Nocturne is sentient. I just saw an Arahabaki use dragon eye, and then immediately flee from the battle. They're just taunting me at this point.
It honestly feels like the code was at least thought of by Dante himself. All demons have style ranks which they get by doing disrespectful thing like in his games. Or at least that's how it plays out.
This is super late but I think there is reasoning to that usually, lone demons are able to use Dragon Eye to keep them dangerous, so they're programmed to immediately pull that out. After that, they're free to do whatever they'd normally do. Sometimes demons just take a look at the situation and say "Screw it I'm outta here", usually on account of having low health
@@dmua9551 That's mostly likely the actual reason, but since I was playing the game on hard (which disables your ability to escape from battle normally) I took seeing enemies run away very personally.
Kagatsuchi was the cause of most of my Hardtype deaths. He gets into loops where he just nukes your entire party and dekundas you, or the same but Heat Risers himself. Your only hope is that he gives you any amount of time to breathe while you set everything back up (endgame demons have Heat Riser and Anticthon, so you can try to buff race.)
Well Arahabaki and Claydol's designs are both based off dogu figurines so it makes sense that they would look similar. Shakkoumon also has a similar design.
And in the Hardtype mod, Evil Gleam is indeed VERY EVIL. It causes many status effects, and coming into the fight without status resist is a death sentence - this means if your healer doesn't resist status, or they do indeed have status resist but end up being the slowest in the party, or they don't use Prayer, you will die. Speaking of which, Luci's version of Mazandyne has chance to inflict charm. If your healer gets hit by that, chances are it might heal Luci.

Well, DDS was originally written as a novel, converted into a video game plot, and then converted back into a complete novel, so the characters are actually characters. Strange Journey is incredibly interesting as a game as a whole, and while the story might be lacking in some places, it's constantly pushing you forward with people you've established as friends and comrades backing you. SMT3 probably has one of the best SMT stories of all time, though. There is no Law and Chaos, no Good or Evil. All there is are six people, the horrible world they now inhabit, and the choices they make to establish a new way of living, however flawed their intentions may be. It's also just basically like a drug trip from start to finish, and is purely meant to be *experienced* first-hand, rather than have the game feel split between having a story followed by having a dungeon. DDS probably feels the best to play, imo, in terms of progression, characters, and pacing. Strange Journey has the best overall gameplay from a strategic standpoint, where every decision is important, but you won't get horribly punished for just existing, usually. SMT3 has what feels like really outdated gameplay supported by its amazing worldbuilding, character motivations, and atmosphere. Postscript: 4 just has no redeeming values to me, tbh. 8 hour long tutorial is the hardest part of the entire game, and then it gets really easy. Grinding DLC just feels like it's mandatory if you don't want to get stuck with basically no App points to get basic things other SMT games give you by default or if you want to have literally any amount of funds (actually getting macca takes forever without it.) It's the worst version of Press Turns imo, with Smirk just adding on extra punishment on top of the standard turn system. Some demon designs like Minotaur are neat, most are either stolen from Devil Summoner or look awful. Also haha party members going "I'M THE LAW/CHAOS GUY" literally minutes in. Apocalypse doubles down on a lot of this, but it at least makes Smirk into an interesting system addition with how it modifies attacks, rather than making it Super Heat Riser.
Strange Journey - best atmosphere, very mature story, very well writen characters except maybe Alex from Redux version, the game has also best endings in any SMT games in my opionion (especially new law and new neutral ending from SJR). Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2 - based on japanese novel, much more focused on characters than Nocturne or other mainline games, very dark motives (kanibalism), many references to Hinduism (Road to Nirwana), one of best antagonist in jrpg history. Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha games - action rpgs, character driven stories, cool detective setting, Taisho era (Japan 1920). Soulless Army is more light hearted, King Abbadon added alignment system from SMT games (LAW, NEUTRAL, CHAOS) and is bit darker than first part. Also featuring Gouto - much better cat than annoying Morgana. If u like Noir movies u will love Raidou. Devil Survivor 1 & 2 - great balance between light hearted story and ,, SMT experience''. If u want game more focused on SMT, play Devil Survivor Overclocked. If u want more ,,Persona'' driven story, u like some anime cliches / generic characters - play Devil Survivor 2. DS2 also has a Social Links. Devil Summoner Soul Hackers - cyberpunk, more light hearted story, but with some dark elements. Much more character driven story with mature plot. Many references to American mythology. SMT III Nocturne and SMT IV - have awesome story, but is more focused on philosophy, world building, and atmosphere. Hard sometimes to understandings. Less focused on characters. SMT I and SMT II - focused on phylosophy, world building, motives from christian religion (SMT I - Adam & Eve, SMT II - Jesus), those games have one of the best story but gameplay is rly outdated (those games need FULL remake and official West localisations). SMT IV Apocalypse - is direct sequel to SMT IV neutral route. Sometimes is very similar to Persona (some dumb cliches like beach scene, generic underage characters, power of friendship). Not good ,,Mainline experience'' but a good bridge between the transition from Persona to SMT. in my opinion the best story have Digital Devil Saga and Strange Journey.
I think other posters will provide more complete answers (haven't got round to SJ yet) but I should say I really love the story of the DDS duology most of all. Agree with people that the appeal of Nocturne is more about the feeling the world conjures than the story per se - the world is fascinating but the actual plot is rather bare bones and minimalist and this can turn people off.
