Exactly! 👍 It's just that people have expectations because of the way I'm kitted out, I guess 😊 I just remind them every once in a while that I don't wear all the protective gear because I'm so good 🤣 The main bit is having a good time 🤙
Hi, yes - GoPro Hero 8, I’ve since added a Hero 10 so that it’s easier to get external footage at the same time. I’ve not been back to Grenoside recently as there was a lot of work going on with the trails - apparently some are being re-worked again after the Steel-City race.
Hi Marie, i went down the pubrun in september at 7am one tuesday morning, it was a lovely dawn/sunrise after i finished work so i thought why not...and headed off on the bike, i cheat....its an ebike, i (pedaled) up the hill from ecclesfield to the traffic lights at grenoside and first went down hill to hillsborough to hopefully catch my son on his way to work..i missed him by about ten minutes, so then i headed back up from hillsborough via foxhill and the "back edge" which is a little bit of a techy climb and then all the way up to grenoside. When i got to the pubrun it was my first time up there and wasnt expecting to see anyone around at that time....as i got to the place where your video commences there was a guy coming up the access trail....another early bird. I stopped and asked him "Hi, i'm a bit of a noob....haha, i'm looking for a blue trail up here is there anything" He told me they were all red and black runs up there but the trail i was at the head at was about the easiest and a bit of a warm up for the other trails....and if i took my time i would be able to keep both my wheels on the ground with only one little "jump" to negotiate which i could steer around. So off i went.....with my tyres with extra pressure in to help with the road riding i had been doing and a lot less sag in my suspension for the same reason, the bike was set up a little bit stiff. So.......by the time i was two minutes in to the run..........i was shaking my bones to pieces....and my forearms were killing, really bad vibrations due to the high pressures in the tyres and stiff set up suspension., after i did the run i climbed back up the acccess path and crossed the road and took the path from the carpark which is fast back down into grenoside and then back home to ecclesfield.......well would you believe it, soon after this run i began with stomach problems........several episodes of abdominal pain lasting for hours after eating etc right up until last week which resulted in an ambulance ride at 4am felling every bump in the road with my skin and eyes very yellow to the hospital A&E where i was then admitted to a general surgical ward over the course of the week, and recieving multiple blood tests, an ultrasound, CT, MRI scan then diagnosed with acute pancreatitis as a result of a gallstone becoming stuck in my common bile duct! Thank god for morphine!! Inbetween the second and third scan at about day five the gallstone cleared the ducts but i have been put on the urgent list to have my gallbladder removed as the scans showed i have stones in there........i cant remember swallowing any on that pubrun.....but i'm sure i shook the ones in my gallbladder loose hahaha!! Next time i go up i'll soften my tyres and suspension!!! What a bone shaker....i've got stones pinging around my body now like a pinball table!! :)
😬😬😬 Well, that just sounds... painful! Really, really painful! Pub Run is a bone shaker, but I didn't think it would be capable of putting people in hospital without spitting them off their bike!😂 I really do hope you're OK, that genuinely sounds horrible and scary! I think you've earned your medical exemption to be on an eBike with that one!!! 😮😉 When you go back up there, you've at least seen the other trails now. Truthfully, I actually find both of them smoother than Pub Run, and there is absolutely nothing on either Steel City DH or DH3 that can't be avoided.
@@WussyCatMTB Thanks Marie, yup it was so painful and scary the last episode, although the blocakage has cleared i still have to go back and have the gallbladder out soon, i anxious about eating because i dont want to trigger another blockage in the pancreas which the consequences could be very bad, so the sooner i get the gallbladder our the better! i'm Carl btw. Yup....thanks to your videos i get a good look at the trails and i think i could handle the other trails up there if i take my time. When i went down the pubrun i went quite quickly with the ebike being heavier and feeling planted but it still shook me to bits, not so experienced on mtbs..but i used to ride off road motorbikes so i'm ok on traiils as long as i'm not attempting things way beyond my skillset. The next time i go on such trails i'll be making sure i have more sag in my suspension and a softer rebound with less pressure in my tyres too. Think i'll rename that trail to the stone shaker! Can't wait to get over to bigger diggers at rother valley what you went down, that looks lovely and smooth and "swishy" with the turns and berms.
@@WussyCatMTB ps.....having watched your videos i would be playing catch up with you......so brave on some of the challenges! I remember walking around parkwood springs and there is a stone slab section that comes up very quickly which climbs upwards.....you fly up it, when i was walking around the trail i remember thinking wussycat made this look so easy!! I was like omg!!! hahaha
Stone slabs… comes up just after some drops/steps? I think I know which one you mean. You can actually bypass that bit on the left, and I did that for a very long time, before I worked up the courage to try it. Surprisingly, it’s not actually any more difficult than going around the outside 🤷♀️ I really am still pretty slow - I’ve definitely picked up speed and skills from where I started off, but by comparison… To me, it more often than not feels like I can’t actually do it, if you know what I mean.
@@WussyCatMTB Yes thats the section, i remember thinking it looks easier to go up and around the slabs to the left of them but watching you fly up it you made the more direct route look easier so when i go up there next but with my bike...i'll probably go for it, by the look of it its important to carry momentum into it rather than hesitate. :)

Aww, Thanks 😊 I'm sure I disappoint everybody who yells 'Send It!' at me on the trails, though 🤣
