    Has anyone else noticed how beauty commercials NEVER feature women with this length and texture of hair? They will feature a woman with short hair juxtaposed with women with long, loose textured hair.
    The only place to find long, voluminous, textured hair on women is on social media.
    Even the so called blk hair care lines refuse to showcase long textured hair unless it is wavy.
    I dare them to feature this woman in a hair commercial. This will shut down all of the internet.❤

      Hi Eve, yes ma’am, I’m in the entertainment industry so I have definitely taken note of this. I actually posted about it on my TikTok months ago, if you’d like to take a look.

    • @beeznhoney4323
      @beeznhoney4323 Год назад +16

      @@PatriceMarjorie @Eve Hi ladies, my comment/opinion is NOT meant to be raYcially charged. I'm simply pointing out what I've noticed another reason why BWomen's natural (or relaxed) _LONG_ hair is not promoted in mainstream media/beauty/fashion.
      First, im sure you're very aware that Caucasian women have been upheld as the beauty standard for centuries. The idea that their hair grows healthy and long is always automatically given. However, when I started to pay closer attention it became RARE to see WWomen's hair (without extensions) any longer than a BWoman's healthy hair🤷🏾
      Oftentimes, a LOT of WW hair is _short or barely collar/shoulder length. It's damaged, thin, dry with lots of split ends_ due to their love of abusing bleach to obtain various shades of blonde or other light colors, curly perms and heat tools. The only times I've seen Caucasian women with healthy hair is when they're very young girls, or women in the Mormon community who don't do lots of crappy things to their hair and regularly trim it and wear simple fish tail braids.
      Next, the natural hair community gained a strong platform to highlight the beauty and versatility of BWomen's healthy _type 4_ hair. NON-blacks learned a lot about black hair care from SMedia. They're surprised to see videos that a short afro can turn out to be nice shoulder length hair when stretched or straighten from a shrunken state. It became evident that a lot of BWomen actually have very long, thick, beautiful hair and that goes against the long standing _false narrative_ that black hair can't grow long.

    • @AminaPhilosophy
      @AminaPhilosophy Год назад +8

      @@beeznhoney4323 I agree with your entire statement. I want to see a BWoman version of a Loreal or a cute slogan similar to “Maybe she’s born with it”. I do not expect this to come from white corporations because like you alluded to in your statement, there is a need keep BWoman “buying beauty” as if we aren’t the prototype💅🏾. Unfortunately, even the major black owned companies have failed to properly promote and display the image of BWomen that is becoming common place online: Rich melanated, Happy BWomen with Long/Big/Voluminous HAIR!

    • @beeznhoney4323
      @beeznhoney4323 Год назад +5

      @@AminaPhilosophy @Patrice M has got the goods to make that L'Oreal commercial happen. I hope she keeps posting about this disparity of representation and tag these companies and their diversity depts. Maybe other long 4c hair ladies can join forces. I'd just make sure that its well KNOWN that long 4c hair (projects) can no longer be co-opted by loose curly hair representatives😒
      BWomen are beautiful👸🏽✨ Our short and long hair is so versatile and unique. I wear my hair relaxed but I'm always happy to see BWomen's channels like this.

      I’ve seen the commercials that have had long thick hair , not always . Some people feel it’s fair to show more short and tight textures vs long coarse. I myself have long coarse hair so I know when I see it on someone else and it’s nice to see yourself . If all women have long hair then those with shorter hair fill left out so I think it could be difficult to make everyone happy at once 🤷🏾‍♀️ I def get what your saying esp because I don’t like seeing a small collection I prefer diversity however keeping everyone happy is not possible!!!!

    It was so nice to hear you say you didn't have negative feelings about your hair at a young age...my sentiments are the same. We're always hearing the opposite and I knew not everyone hated or disliked their hair. Beautiful hair.

      Thank you Nicole! I also think that demographics can play a huge part in informing the relationship we have with our hair. In my youth, I spent a couple years in a predominately white neighborhood and boy can that mess with you. Not to mention, I'm an 80s baby- the creamy crack era did a number on a lot of us mentally.

    • @5050TM
      @5050TM Год назад +15

      My mother always acted like my hair was a hassle and relaxed it early. That's the story many women experienced. Also stylists will insult us as children calling out hair too coarse and unmanageable, pulling on it, burning us with chemicals and the hot comb that they say we need. That's why you hear so much of the opposite.

    • @Gladiator_in_a_Suit
      @Gladiator_in_a_Suit Год назад +4

      I hated my hair growing up and I hated being black too because it was instilled in me at a very young to feel this way by my own mother, but it’s never too late to change a negative mindset about yourself-- I did and I also went no contact with her and the rest of my family 3 years ago because they are toxic. I began to love my natural hair and I love everything about being black with natural hair when I big chopped 5 in a half years ago and I’m now almost waist length. Sometimes it’s the people we look up to who are our own role models that teach us to feel certain ways about ourself and other people and I had to relearn and re-raise myself to be different than that person. I also learned that don’t expect people to love you and respect who you are if you don’t feel it about yourself on the inside. When you don’t have family who love you you learn this really fast.

    I LOVE seeing people with MY hair type and it's long like this. It's never been THIS long, but my hair has gone to bra strap length if I didn't cut it. I'm sure that it would have been past tailbone length had I kept it now. Its currently at the top part of my back now.

      I love seeing people with my hair type as well! I appreciate all hair textures but I feel the most inspired when I see women with hair texture that is like mine. Aww, beautiful story baby thank you 😊. At times, I get frustrated. Do this, do that, don't do this, don't do that. Grow it in 2 days, put oil, no use water, no, the air is damaging it, and the list goes on and on. Am gonna look at my hair strands and see my hair type and look at the community, which can help me. And see how it goes, but I am still welcoming all journeys.

    New subscriber here! My goal is waist-length; Im currently right at nip length lol. I just watched your washday video. Do you blowdry your hair for stretch after each washday before you twist? Do you keep your hair in twists most of the time? Do you finger detangle?

    • @PatriceMarjorie
      @PatriceMarjorie  Год назад +1

      Hi!! Welcome!! ✨✨ Thank you sm for subscribing. I don’t always stretch my hair on wash day. I finger detangle every wash day and typically wear my hair in twists or protected somehow never out- I get too many tangles and single strand knots when my hair is out

    • @MT-yx5cu
      @MT-yx5cu Год назад

      @@PatriceMarjorie oh okay! Thanks for responding. My hair is the same-it tangles so easily. I can rarely wear it out. Do you ONLY finger detangle or do you use a comb as well? Im thinking of going to "fingers only" but I'm not sure if that would cause issues down the road. I feel like the combs and brushes are so harsh on our coils.

      @@PatriceMarjorie Thanks for answering this! I'm glad @pragooutube asked, because I was wondering as well. I'm almost 5ft11, so waist length on me is a whole lot of inches. The only time I reached that point was when I had locs. But with loose hair, it seems like I just get to a standstill just above bra strap length. Not to mention the front and top of my hair are tighter in texture and seem to constantly break. I love my hair, but I'm really thinking of going back to locs because I'm so tired of the breakage. Just wanted to add I would love to be your height. My mom is 4ft11, and I've always wanted to be short like her.

    • @PatriceMarjorie
      @PatriceMarjorie  10 месяцев назад +1

      You are so welcome! I can surely understand the frustration from hair breakage. I recently stopped combing and brushing my hair so much and instead finger detangle. This has helped a lot! I also protect my ends as much as possible and keep protective styles in as often as I can. Isn't it interesting how we often want what we don't have? What I wouldn't do to be 5"11 for a day ;-) @@Kindred04

    I do agree that genes have a lot to do with how thick your hair is. I have type 4 hair and it’s very difficult for my hair to be thick and long. I think it’s because my genes….

    • @PatriceMarjorie
      @PatriceMarjorie  Год назад +3

      I agree, genes play a huge role, and not too many people talk about that. There are things that also support having thick hair that you might want to incorporate or remove from your current hair care routine. For example, do you comb it a lot?

    Don't leave your braids/twists
    in for longer that 8 weeks. It will matt so bad you will be breaking it off trying to unmat it.
    I left mine in for three months on e, and I experienced breakagd from unmattin it,😲☹️

    • @krazyxki
      @krazyxki 9 месяцев назад

      Happened to me too :( I left it for way too long, sewn under weave bc my hairstylist was in another town, It took days-weeks to untangle and I slowly unmatted it. But def some hair loss. I stopped getting sew ins since earlier this year, my hair never breathed for over like 12 years so even though I don't use glue or damaging products, my edges are short from the constant tight braiding under a sew in. Never realized how much damage I was doing in a "protective style". Constant tight braids is not good and I didn't know any better. I now will wear wigs without sew in when I go out but mostly keep my hair in loose protective twists at home. When I wash my hair, I air dry, no heat. I hope your hair journey goes well!
