This might just be the best action game on the Famicom without a fan translation that could use one.

That’s… specific, but you’re probably right

Remember finding this game while working, watched a whole playthrough from a japanese dude and forgot I was at my job 😅😅

Everyone has this one in their collection it seems. I bought this back when Famicom games were mostly around $1 and it was a nice surprise.

This does feel like a good game that coming out of a second tier publisher, but Bandai was considered the LJN of Japan, and the Bandai-Tose joints usually resulted in awful games, so seeing a good game from Bandai is rather surprising. It was not the best one based on Magical Taruruuto-kun, the Mega Drive one developed by Game Freak was really the hidden gem for the system.
Not entirely sure if Bandai ever release a game of this quality on the Famicom though. (Update: That never happened. The second Taruruuto game turns out to be the ultimate challenge on the Famicom. It is still well-made though)

Agreed on this review and it’s sequel. Also worth noting both are incompatible with the everdrive n8 (mapper incompatibility) so worth picking up both physical carts.

As soon as you said best, that got me thinking I need to come back around to this. I got this game as part of a small bundle I got a ridiculously low price on and hadn't the time to get into it largely playing another I focused on for the lot. I do like the fact this series was also pre-pokemon rooted, Game Freak had a hand in this one and it shows in the quality.

This one's alright. Fun to play, if somewhat difficult at times, and rather long. The series is barely known outside of Japan though, so I'm not surprised that these games aren't remembered either. This is what I'd call a 'hidden gem', even if the term tends to get somewhat overused.

I think I played one of these on SFC? wasn't bad as I recall. would definitely look this one up! also that is quite the easter egg, wow.

Probably the main reason that easter egg happened is that the original source material is by Tatsuya Egawa, a mangaka well-known for a lot of adult works like Golden Boy.
Despite Magical Taruruuto-kun being the only work from him that received games based on it, he actually worked as a character design on a couple of titles, though the only one that is worth looking is Naxat's Holy Umbrella for the Super Famicom.
