Now... I spoke with Fred at length this morning and he took full responsibility for the glitch. He said he was only trying to get more screen time because he's going rogue and starting his own channel.
He did promise, however, to do his best not to do it again but he is a cat and we all know that cat's aren't trustworthy!
Here's a version without the glitch in the Matrix. We can now all rest easy.
NOTE: A General Lee is, after all, a state of mind. wild yours in any wa that makes you smile but please don't judge others because you feel the "got something wrong." This is a list of Dont's from my perspective.
But hey... I was actually there. Some out there with an ":expert" opinion mearly wish they were and I don't blame them! IT WAS FUN!

OK here is my "duck" tape joke:
An old man is sitting on his front porch and sees a boy walking by with something in his hand. He calls out "What you got there boy?"

I still remember seeing the General Lee for the first time in “ One Armed Bandits” back in 1979. I loved the car the minute I saw it. Little did I know that I was watching the show that would be part of my life for 40 years. The Dukes of Hazzard and The General Lee are like old friends to me. Thanks for an amazing 4 decades!

John thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping the Dukes of Hazzard and the legendary General Lee still going I love the show so much. It's plays a role in my childhood growing up. No matter what I'll always be a true and loyal fan. I miss Boss Hogg. As well as uncle Jessie. Of course we the fans love the Duke Boys but we also enjoyed sitting with families in our homes and enjoying the best entertainment of all time. I just found me that special sounding horn and we installed it on our car. We are trying to build us a child of the General Lee 😂 lol if you want to call it that. It won't be the legend General Lee but it will be a reminder of my good days and keeping my dreams and the love going for the best show I ever watched. I loved you guys so much. I miss those days. Great times for sure. I love the Dukes of Hazzard too. I miss the pep talks Uncle Jesse would give Bo and Luke. We need more characters like Uncle Jesse on TV.
@@fraudbuster5232 I agree with you. The Dukes of Hazzard stood for a lot of good things. The love uncle Jessie showed Daisy and the boys was truly amazing. I wanted him as my uncle Jessie. I got a lot of good out of the show. That's why I'm such a fan. We saw the General Lee as part of the show and part of of the Duke family it was just a car chasing good old time. They Duke Boys only had a bow and arrow no guns. Never was violent. Just good family times. I miss the good old days even with Boss Hogg and those him hocks and hog jowls. Oooooooie. But I got a kick out of it. Need more people like this instead of nonsense shows.
@@debbiesmitherman9295 I still laugh when Boss has his afternoon snacks. There was one episode where Boss had a mountain of (either pork chops or fried chicken), to his right and an empty baking sheet to his left. A few scenes later, the sheet to his left was a pile of bones. lol.

Roscoe begging for just a taste. Chitterlings woooooooo those things to. I loved the Dukes Christmas of the Ghost of The General Lee. Boss sure turned into a big old sweetheart. Man I wish those days were still here. I want my grandbabies in the future to know all about the Dukes of Hazzard. The way I did. For the show itself was my favorite of all. Of course Dallas came in second. Those good old back woods dirt roads that seem to be no more.

I was born in 81. And live in the Appalachian mountains of southeast ky. grew up watching Dukes of Hazard. I love it that John has a yt channel. It's just awesome

John, as a father of seven children, I grew up on Dukes when it was first on the air and now we own all of the original Dukes on DVD...and we're raising our kids on the "funnest' family show of all time! Our kids are loving your videos!

I also wanted to ask you: in Smallville, what engine was in that charger Tom drove in his guest appearance episode, and also, did they allow you two to actually do the driving in that episode? I know for a fact you're still very capable of stunt driving. And how's Tom, Cathrine, Sonny, and Ben doing?

Hi John, I've watched "our show" since day 01 (lol)..I was 4 years old and now turning 45. I'm a super creative designer and car lover/ GENERALLEE fanatic. We met in 2008 through Mr. F. Harrington in Ont. Canada when I was helping YOU and HIM at the Canadian Dukes Museum booth at the Motion Custom Car Show. I was the guy with the light blue OLDS DELTA glove box door you were so kind to autograph for me for free. I enjoy your channel and what you do to help the show live on as it should. I hope you don't mind me adding to what you said in this video. 69 Chargers also had a DELUXE OPTION of adding a RIGHT HAND SIDE MIRROR. Chargers which came equipped with only one LEFT HAND SIDE MIRROR were just not fully optioned. Also, ONE OF THE BIGGEST MISTAKES people make in building a GL is the colour. The first 3 GL cars ever filmed on the show were 1975/1976 CORVETTE FLAME RED. Just wanted to participate here and also say THANK YOU SIR. God bless. Dean "THE BEAST". Cheers Cuz.
Just found that out. Never saw one of those on the show though.
My first car was a '68 Charger. Dark olive green with vinyl roof. 383 motor, but not the magnum(they came out in '69). Drove like a beast.

My personal favorite look for the General Lee is the very early ones from the Georgia epsiodes- LEE 2 and LEE 3 specifically. Narrow pushbar, early roll cages, cross flags behind the window, etc.
ALSO- Not all Chargers had vinyl tops. If they DID have the stainless, they had a vinyl top.
Also, passenger side mirrors weren't standard on '68s as well.
Hopefully I don't sound rude, just want to make sure it's totally accurate.
Other than that, spot on, as one would probably expect.

Thank you John for reading my post, :) it' really means allot... Ya I don't doubt that none of the Chargers used on the show were fully loaded/optioned cars as that would bring the cost up on a Charger and as you've mentioned, Warner Bros. budget was low for total build cost of making each GENERAL. I agree with you on none of THE GENERAL's used being '70 Charger's..however, it wouldn't be impossible as it's just the doghouse (fender's/hood/bumper/grill/hood latch) that would have to be swapped to change a '70 Charger into a '69. Costly yes, but possible. With MOPAR's and '60's cars in "general" (lol), there were sooo many variables/option configurations that a highly optioned car could still not have a deluxe mirror installed. Plus back then. safety concerns on using a passenger side mirror weren't as important to car buyer's..Or, to achieve the "uniform" look of THE GENERAL's, the transportation dept. could have removed some. Lol I obviously love talkin cars, hope that's cool. Cheers John.

Supposedly there is an older gentleman in my town that helped build the General Lee's for the television series. Rumor was that he has one that he built stored inside a semi trailer. He is said to have driven it quite a bit in the late 80's around town. I've never seen it though. I moved here in the mid 2000's. I've met the guy several times. He owns a towing service. He's towed my P.O.S. truck on multiple occasions.
Who remembers getting the General Lee Big Wheel when you were a kid and making ramps in the driveway much to the anger of our parents? Of course you always pretended to be Bo thinking you were driving just like him. Truly enjoy your channel John.

never did or said anything that kids couldn't see or hear. Me being a car guy also along with anyone that is know's no one can jump a car like that and NOT bend it in the middle. Some toy models of the General Lee are now being sold without the Confederate flag on top. It's disgusting when people try to erase history. I know a guy who bought a Cooper Mini, had it painted orange, put the 01 on the sides and the flag on top. He changed the wording on top to "Generally". It's a big hit wherever he drives it. People wave, laugh, point and whip out their cellphones for pix. Dukes is still a very popular show!

Hey. French Canadian here. I was 'round 3-4 years old when I watched "Shériff fais-moi peur" (Translate loosely as Scare me sheriff), aka Dukes of Hazzard. This car is a HUGE part of my childhood. I gotta say that I haven't rewatched the show since then, as I'm a little bit afraid that it would be like '60s Spiderman cartoon (Yeah, we had '60s Spiderman cartoon on TV up here in the '80s): You've got fond memories of it but then rewatched it and it just destroy your childhood memories because, it didn't grew old well.

Crazy! My sister had a beloved cat who looked just like yours! Not crazy? His name was Fred and they called him Fred the Cat!! When I showed her this video, she almost cried. Fred’s not dead, he just went to stay with the Dukes! Thank you!!

Thanks Mr. Schneider for all of the Comedy and drama as well as the fun of the Good Ol' boys. I loved the show so much that I finally bought The Dukes of Hazzard 33 disc set so that I can see Bo, Luke, Daisy And Uncle Jesse Duke when ever I want.

Mr. Schneider, I wonder if you remember me. I met you at that nice restaurant in Walker, La. I told you that I remember having the McDonald's Happy meal that the box turned into either the General Lee or Roscoe's police car. You said that they were the first happy meals ever sold. I'll remember and consider that a great memory for the rest of my life.
Hey, you forgot to weld the doors shut! (-; I like Your smaller, custom steering wheel. I put one in my 65 Ford Sprint convertible. I don't crush my junk when jumping over the door with the top down. I can still do it at 70 years old, but not very well. It looks like slo-mo now. I bought the car when I was 18. Your General Lee is beautiful.

Luv ya John! I ran into ya at a Spring Fling event at Woodley Park in Van Nuys years ago when I had my General out there. Being a dyed in the wool Moparian I have to say I was appalled at just how many donors sat in the back lot out at Universal ! I can gladly say that I helped with the show as I sold one of my “roller” ‘69’s to the Trans. Dept. It was a 318 powered “500” and I’m sure it got trashed during the course of the series run! Now that I too am relocated to the Lone Star State, maybe I’ll run into you again!

I saw you one time in person, but did not bother you and what I assumed was your family while eating at a restaurant at the Laughlin Ramada Inn (railroad themed). This had to have been in the early 90's, wanted to approach you but I, unlike others, respected you and your families time. Keep it up man, cheers.
John I thought of another mistake I don’t think you mentioned. Sometimes there would be a full cage roll bar, not real often. That and the push bar always bothered me. Lol also sometimes cb antennae was not as tall and had the thicker black in the middle of the mast. Thanks I appreciate your videos! And am honored to be able to talk to you like this! Rich Gardiner

The first name for Duct Tape was DUCK. During World War II the U.S. Military needed a waterproof tape to keep the moisture out of ammunition cases. So, they enlisted the Johnson and Johnson Permacel Division to manufacture the tape. Because it was waterproof, everyone referred to it as “duck” tape (like water off a duck’s back). They still have a brand of duck tape today with a pic of a rubber duck on it.
I believe the term "duck tape" is from earlier than that. It comes from it being made of cotton duck fabric.
@@caulkins69 that was all I could find on the tape. They not only used it for this they also used it for sealing up wounds on the battle field.

Still love that car! Also loving the Pontiac Fiero you have there in the background. Looks exactly like the one I used to have before I had a 2nd child and had to get a bigger car. I miss that car.
I’m a Charger Expert. Got my 1st one in 1991. John is right on many points however. The 1968 did not have dual side view mirrors. 1971 was the 1st year of the Charger that had 2 mirrors. John is correct about that rear of the Charger light assembly to be flat black. All 1968/1969 came from factory with flat black rear light assembly. 1970 was the 1st year where that assembly matched the color of the car. I like John a lot and would love to ride with him in a Charger. I was born in 1974 and was 7 years old during the peak of the Dukes I miss my childhood.

John, first of all, my childhood thanks you for all the entertainment you gave me growing up. As for questions, what are some of your favorite memories of your costars? Any special scenes they did that really got to the heart of their characters? Did you have any favorite guest stars? Can you use your influence to get the fans a DK Publishing Guide to the Dukes of Hazzard? So many TV shows and movies have coffee table styles books, but most Dukes ones are just epsiode guides. Would love to see a 'map' of Hazzard County, with aerial maps of the town, the homestead, the Boar's Nest, etc. Even include where in Hazzard some of the named locations where, including the jumps: over the railroad, over the barn, down the road (first jump in credits), the jump from end of opening credits, and one over the creek bed (camera attached to right side front), High Octane truck, etc. Character bios, locations (the white bridge), Hazzard facts, etc. We need it!

Great video! Great job! This General is wonderful but wayyyy too perfect. The boys’ General wasn’t cherry. It was a country boy’s race car and daily driver.
There is one note that I’d like to make. The smaller grille guard lasted for the first few seasons and then the car guys switched to the larger grille guard around season 4 and so on. Sometimes, due to editing, early on with the larger grille guard you’ll see both grille guards used in the same episode.

Love the thumbnail pic of Boss Hogg! Very fond memories of Hogg sitting in front of a huge plate of food and Roscoe would try to snag a nibble and Boss would do his scream to get him to go away. 😅
Hi John, I love the dukes of Hazzard, nice of you to post a video explaining some of the details about making a general Lee, for me the car was always one of the best parts of the show, I even at one point had an RC general Lee that I used to race out in front of my house when I was growing up!
Always been my 2nd favorite car on a tv show first was K.I.T.T. but the show was and is a all time favorite as well as Smallville cause I am a big fan of Superman thanks for making both shows awesome Sir 😁
Me and my dad cleans out houses for this guy that owns this trailer park and he had this old trailer and we had to clean it out the other day and I found every season of the dukes of hazzard on VHS tapes still in the cases

I've got a question for you: It's fairly common knowledge that the show used up Chargers at a frightening pace---well, frightening for those us who are fans not only of the General Lee, but of the 2nd-generation Dodge Charger overall. My question is: How many times would they rebuild a damaged car before they wrote it off? Did they rebuild them at all, or just throw them away after a jump?
What made Gy Waldron or any of the other production staff decide on the '69 Dodge Charger? Was it just random, or did they go out to the studio's vehicle lot, see the Charger, and decide that that was their choice?
On the subject of the tail panel color: The name Dodge assigned to the R/T-equipped Chargers was "Argent Silver"---it came out as a flat black that looked like it had silver metalflake in it. That tail panel color was only for the R/T models. Later it would be added to the SE trim line as well. Regular old plain-jane Chargers (and there were NOT many) would keep the tail panel in the same color as the rest of the body. :)

John Schneider you have no idea the impact you and the cast of Dukes of Hazzard on the many kids and adults back in the 80s. I was a young boy then and loved watching the show through out the 80s and 90s actually. I really miss those days and sometimes wish Back to the Future was not fiction. You know where Im getting with that statement. LOL. The General Lee was my favorite, followed by Roscoe, Boss, daisy, Boe, Luke, Jesse and Cletus. The one moment during the show when the Boe and Luke was replaced by Coy and Vance destroyed one of my summers back in the day. thank god Boe and Luke returned shortly after. Jon, if you’re forced to use the magnetic antenna, you can obtain orange vinyl and place it on the car & on the magnet. We had to used this method on a 2018 Corvette for a rally. Worked beautifully! Not a scratch on her & the antenna is still there. Just hate to drill holes.... ouch!
Actually even better is a piece of clear vinyl. It lets the actual color show thru so the color is a true match.
Mr. Schneider, if you get a magnet mount in Tenna, glue felt to the bottom of the magnet, that’ll solve your problems you’re not scratch the paint
Hey John the black trim around the tail lights is black in the very first shot of the reunion movie( it is the first one because Denver was still alive) I remember you and TOM and Ben found the car in a garage where Romeo the rooster was using it. Anyway you boys got it running and when you were ready to take it out for a spin, it shows you doing a brake torque and you clearly see the trim black
The decal thing he mentions at the end is funny because today anyone could make them at home with a vinyl cutter and a printer easily using adhesive vinyl
