The Sheriff cars deserve a mention too. I remember one we blew up the day before thanksgiving the first season. One of the boys (supposedly) shot an arrow carrying a stick of dynamite into Roscoe's car sitting across a road by a farm. There was a friendly horse in the paddock that we could not get to go away. But we were losing light so ... BOOM!. The horse ran and ran circles in that paddock. I remember the date because we had Thanksgiving off. The day after Thanksgiving we shot part of Daisy's Song in Downtown Atlanta. When I rigged the lights on the car, I put the batteries in the trunk only to notice that the car had been burned out. Over thanksgiving, you guys repainted reglazed, reupholstered, put on new tires, and replaced the interior. The trunk was the only evidence of two days before. That was an impressive feat!
You worked on the show back then? Cool. I am always so interested in the "behind the scenes" stories from the show. Do any of the cast members or people like yourself have any pictures or scrapbooks?
@@jdtractorman7445 No pictures. No time. I was surprised to find a picture of myself on the hood of the General Lee on a different RUclips that John posted. I never knew it was taken! And with my hair that long, I didn't recognize myself at first.
Yeah, he made it look so easy and good in the opening credits! When I was a young, dumb kid, I tried that once with my '73 Monte Carlo. Only once. I hurt myself, scratched the paint and never made it across the hood...
Yeah i done an AWESOME slide across my mums car when i was about 12.. was well chuffed.. then looked back at the car to see the biggest scratch from one side to the other 🤦♂️ 🤣
I'm a Mopar guy but fact is in 1979 they looked around for a big, plentiful, cheap muscle car...bam charger! In 79 my dad said u couldn't give one away, by 1985 (end of Duke's) u couldn't find one!
I was never more nervous (for a CAR!!!) than the Carnival of Thrills episode... As a kid, I was all about the General Lee... Bo and Luke, well, honestly didn't even think about them being IN the car during the jump! LOL
I wish that dodge would do something for one year where it’s kinda like a throw back Thursday. Where that it looks like a 69 charger but updated and a hell of a lot more horse power
I had a friend that lived next to the corner of Ledge Ave and San Fernando Rd. South in Sun Valley, adjacent to Burbank. His family ownd alot of income properties, across the street was Old Trappers Lodge ( the grandfathers ) that Lookheed eventually bought. Next to him was a business whose fenced lot had about 15 General Lees crammed into it. I think it was around the later seasons when I was about 20. They were some of the cars they used in the Dukes of Hazzard. Around the corner on Clyburn Ave is where Jay Leno has his car collection today.
They didn't choose the charger for the dukes because of the suspension. John schneider said it got chosen because in 79 the charger was the cheapest to use at the time , as they had a budget of 1600 dollars per car.
I love dodge they’re durable as hell I had a choice between a dodge wheelchair van, and a Ford wheelchair van I chose the Dodge and it happened to be redline red in 2014 and if I didn’t need a wheelchair van I would’ve bought a Dodge charger😎
They use to put Dodge Muscle cars on thoes type on track for 440 six pack 426 Six pack and even 340 six pack or 383 and the Daytona 500 cars in the 50s from the 70s on NASCAR only for Hemi
I can't believe that a guy who worked on the original TV cars is driving around in one with an orange panel on the back. It's just so wrong. John Schneider mentioned about one of the reunion shows they did where they used one with an orange panel in one scene, but he saw it and pointed out to the crew that it was wrong and they gave it a quick paint job to fix it.
they should make a kit car to replicate the 1969 Charger. the General Lee has been my dream car since about 4 years old, but by the time I was old enough to drive, they were already super rare. I don't even care if it has the grille of the 500 instead of the r/t, the wrong color interior, and no roll bar, it would still be close enough for me to die a happy man.
Funniest part about the General Lee was they actually had made the choice to use the Chevelle as the General Lee and the only thing that stopped them dead in their tracks was the cost per car. Chevelle's were pretty popular and they cost more per car than the studio wanted to pay. 68-70 Dodge Chargers were pretty cheap and plentiful and the budget they set per car completed as a General Lee was $1500 - $1700 and that included the purchase cost.
@@clabszero I believe you. I bought a '69 Charger R/T in 1980 for $50. The owner wanted $75 but he couldn't fine the title so we agreed on $50.It was a beautiful rust free body and had a lot of options like A/C and disc brakes. But it didn't run. A year later I bought a running 69 Charger 383 for $500.
I've heard the show destroyed between 75 and 300 Chargers. I get the fanboy aspect, but I'd bet several thousand clones have been built. Which is kind of a shame, for people who like 2nd gen Chargers for what they are.
Actually, they went through 320 Dodge Chargers during the Dukes of Hazzard. Only 15 made it out sort of intact including the one they used in the last episode.
They really had nothing better to do in hazard county. I mean if Rosco really wanted to he could have got a warrant, raided the Duke farm and arrested everybody. but no they played the game cause they were bored.
Few people know this but they actually wanted to use the Chevelle but it was cheaper to purchase and fix up Chargers. The car was originally John Schneider's too and he loaned it to Warner Bros.

my first case of 4-wheel love was the old GTO saw one as a kid and totally fell in love
such great history given to the charger in this video
My favorite T.V. series since I was a Kid with My favorite Muscle Car The Charger King of Muscle!!! MOPAR OR NO CAR MAN💪💪💪😎👍👍👍👏👏👏
I once a seen a family who found a general Lee in a barn on a property it was awesome to see them blessed with a awesome dodge
Love that green charger with the last hemi.
I wish that dodge would do something for one year where it’s kinda like a throw back Thursday. Where that it looks like a 69 charger but updated and a hell of a lot more horse power
Dodge heliphant
fuck that just make reproduction versions id rather have the old car than a new one with the old body style
The new dodge challenger is the recreation
Some dude is rolling around here in a new charger with an 01 on the doors.
I guess bright yellow was the closest color they offer too.
Fords are junk as fuck. never buy a Ford. haha!
This car got me into cars !
Years later such a beautiful car
Imagine Dodge produce charger '69 again! They would sell like crazy
Imagine if Dodge produced a 1969 Charger with a Hellcat engine!
i would be in line to buy one for sure
Only problem is they made the Charger a four-door.
Watch your bloody language mate about the general Lee
My buddy had a 318 2bbl also.. Slow as molasses

@11:38 the back end of that Charger is wrong for a General Lee, according to John Schneider. It's supposed to have a black accent. 😂
It's interesting to see how ford still has dodge parts in them and how the built model Ts
They didn't choose the charger for the dukes because of the suspension. John schneider said it got chosen because in 79 the charger was the cheapest to use at the time , as they had a budget of 1600 dollars per car.
We need that kind of thinking in 2022 again
The Charger was the best tv mopar. The 1970 challenger was the best movie mopar.
Ford guy but not so narrow minded not to respect the greatest “other” cars in human history. Long live the General, beautiful car in so many ways…

that charger is bad ass

Tail panel needs to be satin or flat black...
Dream til the day I die........
Search for General Lee Crown Victoria. Stunt shows are making The General out of a CVPI and sheet metal
One of the sexiest cars ever
Nice video... but you need to paint the tail light panel black like the original, the red panel just sticks out and does not look right.
+JB85128 You're right
JB85128 I agree the painted panel is plain ugly and wrong. mine is black.
nice i aint the only one who saw that
Also the grille support needs to be black and not orange.

That was the lamest "hee-haw" in all the history of hee-haw-in'! Sheeeeeeesh :-D
God Bless Dixie! Let's go Brandon!
They used a Charger in Christine as well
Wasn't it beautiful, in blue?
Dennis had a b-5 blue charger
Even though I'm pretty much a GM guy, I have much respect for Mopar
I love mopar
9:10 NO Steve did not drive in that scene of the movie. he tried first and sort of spun out so they had a stunt driver

Chromer Pimpson build one out of a crown Vic
Cool
Sexy ass car always bad ass and unbeatable for a time with that 440 wedge.
Why he talks about hemis? in dukes of hazard they NEVER used Even ONCE A Hemi
Camaro's and Torino's both had leaf spring rear suspension.

Its so hard to watch the cars get damaged like that.... LoL.
But they only wrecked about 300.
They made a shitload more of em.
Nothing more american than a dodge charger and AC/DC
@Tropic Lightning lol, right?
MOPAR, or NO CAR!!!!
wanted the car commission for this show
Thank you!
Watch the video closely at 2m.52s you can see the body work distortion when lands!
Hell Yeah!
The flag was on backwards on that Generals roof, the point on the stars should point to the drivers side, not the passengers.

Schneider once said in an interview that they destroyed 1 and 1/2 chargers an episode. Lol
Back in the day,it hadda be about 84.
My babysitter was dating a dude with an orange charger.
Haha he was like a god.

Too bad an iconic muscle car has been ruined and disgraced by 21st century car builders.
A big part of the reason the '69 charger is so iconic is BECAUSE of the General Lee/The Dukes of Hazzard
Badest car on earth!
Please use the correct rims on these cars, make it look official
Too bad they couldn't find a better looking General Lee clone for this taping
Now dodge maid there charger a 4 door pos that every pimp and gang banger wants to put 24 to 26 in rims on it and phantom fromt gril on it lol
I want a super bird, with General lee paint, the General gets a 200 mph upgrade....
Few people know this but they actually wanted to use the Chevelle but it was cheaper to purchase and fix up Chargers. The car was originally John Schneider's too and he loaned it to Warner Bros.
Really, George Barris came up with the charger and the paint
@@derekrogers3426 . No he didn't

they should have remade it not the challenger
Charlie Ferguson I agree with you 110%
they did remake the charger but they made it a 4 door.
Are they going to bring back the Charger?
I am , but in 1/10th scale
Yes.
is it a smole block
The answer is simple. Make a new Dukes show and use a new Charger, plenty of them around to smash up.
No way! Use the Dodge Challenger that's both a coupe and hemi. I don't know what dodge was thinking with a 4 door charger.
Dodge is thinking money. The name Charger will sell more cars than if they called it a Polara.
wrong wheels on this general lee too many spokes....supposed to be vector wheels
orange tail panel on the last shot too nooooo good
Oh sssshiiiit.....dont show the roof of the car lmao...p.s....joking ofcourse lol
YEAH TOM NOW KEEP DESTROYING THE DAM CARS ONLY 2000 LEFT
About 70-100k
i much rather they wrecked hundreds of shitty Camaro's
Jesus Christ Dodge made some ugly fucking cars
