- It's the Zoo Med x Snake Discovery Enclosure Build-off, 2024!! If you haven't seen Part 1, definitely do so before watching this video. Here in Part 2, we feature the final results of the players' beautiful enclosure builds! Now it's time for YOU to vote on your favorite! No offence to the youtubers, but the zoo med team absolutely crushed this challenge. Im in love with all the extremely naturalistic environments. Yall need to invite Serpa Design to one!
Yeah, it would be cool to have him in one! But I almost want it to be a longer and bigger build, with only contestants who make their living making naturalistic enclosures, so the experts can really show off.
They’ve tried inviting him in the past I think. Not sure why it didn’t work out but I’d so love to see them collaborate in the future!

The difference in the quality of enclosures made by these professionals versus the regular build-off contestants is astounding; these are absolutely works of art that do an amazing job providing animals everything they need, while the regular entries are more gimmicky. I can't wait to see which team wins this build-off and how they do in the regular competition; I'm sure they'll crush it!
Not only is there a difference in how they were made with an eye towards the animal. But with an eye towards the keeper as well. Those enclosures would actually be practical to keep animals in the long term. Each place in those enclosures was accessible for cleaning. While also being able to make the animal comfortable and secure. That is a very hard balance to master. Really shows their experience of animal care in the long term.
so far Team Red is in the lead at 53% because of the amazing water feature. In fact the top 3 spots are Team Red, Team Yellow, and Team Orange because of the water features. there's 14 hours of voting left.

A lot of the others went for more unusual or obscure reptiles (or amphibians), but I really appreciated that they picked a species that’s familiar to most of us and a really great species too.
Plus, they knocked it out of the park with their build. It’s beautiful!
There isn't a single enclosure in here that isn't amazing to look at. The tropical ones are fantastic but I am amazed at how awesome all of the arid enclosures came out because it seemed like it would be the less interesting climate between the two. Teams Gold, Denim and Red are my favorites but I don't think I could possibly pick between the three! It was hard to narrow them that far.

I love how many of/ if not all the teams made so many peep holes and viewing areas. And they were so differently competitive to the regular build off lol i love this! And so many different creatures represented!
Zoo Med has fantastic customer service. I had a piece break on a front open terrarium (the lock tab). Emailed their wonderful CS team and they sent me a replacement part completely free. Shipping and everything. No hassle whatsoever. Zoo Med is AWESOME!

Team Blue's is so cool (imo) but hardly getting any votes! I love the little cave that you can see into, I think that's really cool.

All the enclosures look so amazing, I'm in awe of the creativity on BOTH the desert and even the more "standard" tropical approach, the sales team really knows what they're doing. I wrote pretty much everyone on my "short list" before they were showing the last enclosure and... suddenly I realized they had already shown every enclosure and I hadn't really narrowed down my vote at all 😂
I usually work graveyard so I think I'll sleep on who to vote for and vote in the "morning"- hopefully I'll be able to narrow it down at least a little! 😆 Team Red already has me biased by bringing in my love of garters, gosh darn them
All of the enclosures turned out so AMAZINGLY like holy crow! It is legitimately difficult to pick who to vote for, geez. Everyone was also so nice and clearly had a lot of fun, I'm so glad. I love how different each team was, but how well they worked together to produce such a level of artistry in these enclosures.
I like how team orange was quick about it but they had everything they wanted so I'm not surprised they were done early
I like how team blue came together with less than what they wanted and did amazing
However I have to go with TEAM RED because they thought of red side garter snakes and built in a mini feeder pond. The animal they chose also went with the team color as an added bonus ❤
So many pass off on garter snakes it makes me sad
It was so hard to choose who to vote for but ultimately I was caught between Gold and Red. The mangrove environment that the Gold team did is completely amazing, although the Red team juuust edged them out for me with that gorgeous water feature; it's a garter snake paradise!
Wow.. These enclosures are better than a lot of the ones they had from previous build offs. Zoo med really knows their products and used it to their advantage. I couldn’t choose a favorite!

Man all of the teams deserve a round of applause! All of these enclosures look gorgeous and natural. And even better they will be comfortable, enriching homes for whatever animals end up living there! So excited to see who takes the crown.
I'm partial to mangrove environments, and I've never seen that done before! I hope Team Gold wins! They're all world-class though! 🤩
They did these in 4 hours, folks! These are incredible! They are definitely the types of enclosures I hope to see in build offs. They are extremely functional and superbly done.
I still think that a special build-off in the future should be a big one. I'm thinking something like 6x3x3 or even 4x4x8 enclosures sizes, a build-off that takes place over 2 or even 3 days in teams of 3 or 4 people. (With access to carpentry tools and supplies) I get that the smaller enclosures are more likely to get sold in a home, but I mean, there are also larger reptiles that would love those awesomely-built enclosures too!

Every single one of that terrarium are incredible. They look all so well put together and taught trough it is unbelievable they are made as part of a timed challenge.

As an Australian I find it so perplexing "going for an Australian look" is that Tasmanian rainforest, central desert, coastal beach, far north tropical daintree forest, eucalyptus bushlands or plains etc. Our continent is so massive and has such diverse landscapes that could all look like completely different countries it makes me so curious as to what people think it looks like here. Where I live I can be in three vastly different landscapes if i go 30 minutes in different directions.

It's so interesting to see how the enclosures are quite different to the usual built offs. It is so evident that they all know their products and the enclosures look absolutely stunning! I didn't think I'd enjoy this more than the original built off, but I actually did. Outstanding work everyone!

I'm so used to English in the Snake Discovery videos so I was a bit confused by the German introduction. I'm from Germany and understood it straight away, but my mind couldn't handle this surprising change. :D

These enclosures did not disappoint. I really like the way the hanging sphagnum moss looks!
Team Red and Team Gold were the best. Team Gold did a perfect rendition of a mangrove swamp and that water feature was such a clever idea. Team Red doing a whole paludarium for garter snakes just hit it right out of the park though.

I've never liked so many arid tanks. Truly amazing what they did. They're so much harder to make aesthetically pleasing and those are gorgeous!

I was torn between Team Gold's mangrove set-up & Team Red's for the garter snakes. I finally went with the Team Red's garter snake build 'cuz it was just gorgeous & I have a soft spot for garters. I think the snakes will love that enclosure! Good luck, everyone!

My runner up pick is the anole build. Great scale and quantity of hides and enrichment.
I really love that these two builds focused on common pet trade species that tend to get undersold on their environments.

This was SO HARD TO VOTE ON. Even picking a top 3 is tough! All amazing builds
Voting on this was really hard. Still not sure if voted for the best as all were absolutely fantastic.
I voted Team Red, because I absolutely loved how they balanced the needs of the animal with both aesthetics and while also keeping the "view-ability" of the animal in mind. Of course the animals need should always come first, but for me it is also important to be able to keep an eye on my pets and to know where they are; if only for health reasons.
Team Purple and Denim were close seconds for me for similar reasons and because they stayed true to the arid theme by only adding plants that would make sense in an arid environment (If I had to choose between them I would go with Purple, but only because I am German and I loved the confusion they caused, hahah).
While most of the other enclosures (especially the tropical themed ones) were more "conventionally" aesthetically pleasing, I felt they were a bit overcrowded sometimes. Like the teams still some more time left and tried to improve them by adding things, but instead made it worse. Ironically we have a word in German called "verschlimmbessern" (lit. to make-worse-improve), which means "to make something worse by trying to improve it".
But lets be honest, all the enclosures were absolutely amazing and I would not be able to make an enclosure even a quarter as good as they did. It was very clear that they all knew what they were doing and had the animals best interests in mind. I look forward to seeing the winners at the Snake Discovery Build Off soon! 🐍🎉

I loved all of them, but I'm torn between voting for red or orange. I loved the sound of the running water in both of them and the bromeliads in the orange tank were gorgeous.... But Garter snakes are one of my all time favorites, too...hmmm.
All the enclosures look amazing! And they're so we'll thought out. I love that they made so many little hides so that the animals could have plenty of areas to feel safe and secure.
