    This is a well thought out build. It focuses on dealing a lot of damage by using high strength and boosting flurry of blows with the tavern brawler feat. You mentioned using ki for patient defense or step of the wind, but with your armor class it seems to me that you'd mostly be using your ki for flurry attacks.
    Players will spend most of Act 1 as a level 1 barbarian/level 4 monk. This means that resource management will be important since they will only have 1 rage and 4 ki points. On a short rest, they will get their ki points back, but not their rage. I'd recommend only using ki for flurry of blows at this point since this build lacks the second attack feature gained by most martial classes at level 5.

    Neat synergy between Tiger Heart and Monk: Tiger's Boodlust inflicts bleed, which gives affected enemies disadvantage on Con saves. Follow up with Stunning Strike, which requires the enemy to make a Con save or get stunned. And you know how strong Stun is in this game!

      You should seriously consider a Barbarian6/Monk6 (Berserker/Open Hand) build with Great Weapon Mastery & Tavern Brawler. It's a common misconception that you can't use a Greatsword/Greataxe as a Monk, cuz you totally can. With a 6/6 split, you get 55ft movement (+10 from Barbarian & +15 from Monk). My starting stats were 16/14/16/8/12/8. STR hits 20 by Act 2 (Tavern Brawler +1, Hag's Hair +1, & Potion of Everlasting Vigor +2).
      While Raging and wielding a +1 Heavy weapon with 20 STR, GWM, & TB:
      Reckless Attack + Extra Attack + Flurry of Blows
      = (2d6+10+5+2+1) + (2d6+10+5+2+1) + (1d6+5+5+2) + (1d6+5+5+2)
      = 66 to 96 damage per round!

      Got bored playing pure barb and diceded to give a try to tavern brawler barb monk, but i really didnt want to run around with no weapons at all, and ive discovered interesting interraction with great axe. Use preparation for extra dmg for 1 turn (5 with 20 str), hit 1 weapon attack with no tavern brawler effect, but with all the might of 2h axe, and then use unarmed stunning strike as extra attack (usable even with weapon equipped) with tavern brawler dmg and with extra dmg from preparation, and then flurry of blows with each attack triggering that preparation dmg. And for the rest of the fight u have 2 options: use axe for actions and flurry attacks as bonus actions, or u can unequip your axe on second turn (doesnt waste any actions) and finish the fight unarmed. Actually looks like a bug, because same interraction doesnt work with glave preparation, but until its patched you can try it

    You can also fix your low dex mid to late-ish into Act 1, depending on pathing, as well (I recommend between level 4-6 to be safe). Going to Creche Y'llek the merchant there sells the Gloves of Dexterity, which gives your attacks a +1 to attack rolls and sets your dex to 18. So if you don't want to use the gloves that give you Wrath stacks you can opt in for those bad boy's.

    This is what I respecced my dark urge monk to early on. ITS SO THEMATICCC FOR A GOOD DARK URGE O MY GAWSH. Monk dialogue to resist the urge, barbarian dialogue options to sorta rp giving into the urge. ITS SO GOOOOOOD. Ugh. As well as being an incredibly good and fun mobile, jumping around, and pushing/disabling build.
    I am doing a shadow raging monk tho which definitely isn't ideal, open hand is probably best with barbarian/tavern brawler. Still doing great tho on tactician. But I'm still way more of a beast in combat now that I took tavern brawler and respecced for strength, wearing gloves of dexterity, as well as +2 strength clothing, still have stunning strike, can push anyone, and have the shadow step and some utility sneaky skills, as well as silence and darkness which are great abilities for crowd control. And the cloak in shadows ability. And I like the thematic element of being a shadow monk as a dark urge origin. I dunno, my own rp. Might respec for open hand once I'm in act 3 (end of act 2 now), and just have a teleport item equipped and keep that god tier invisibility on kill dark urge cloak. No monk subclass reactivity so id just maintain the shadow monk personal RP.
    This games build options and RP options are soooo good. I'm a big fan of all crpgs, and there's technically far more MATH wise/number wise build variety in a pathfinder or 3.5e or 2e based crpg, but the roleplaying and reactivity for this game in terms of build and class or multi class is unparalleled. And its actually FUN to mess with 5e builds, whereas the 3.5e/2e/pathfinder games are BRUTAL and punish non optimal builds or character ideas, therefore limiting actual roleplay a lot. Leveling up takes forever and i often need to follow guides on level up. And it takes SO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT to build pathfinder or 3.5 characters. Pretty much a spreadsheet simulator (I'm looking at you pathfinder kingmaker/wotr, even tho I adore wotr)
    Bg3 has class dialogue options all over the place, and even "some" subclass reactivity (not for monk paths tho) as well. And multiclassing gives you BOTH dialogue options. UGH. One of the best games of all time.

    Great build, and very well explained!
    One small caviat in regards to leaving strength at 18 for the potion. The potion actually lets you go to 22 strength base if you do push it to 20. So I would definitely recommend going 8 monk 4 barb for single target beatdowns, or leaving it at 18+2 from pot if you want resonating blasts for AoE.
    Personally I want my barbmonk to be a boss killer, with a warlock & cleric handling the AoE needs.
    Using the gloves of dexterity is also very nice, or you could dump your strength, fill dex, then use the gloves of hill giant strength, but those are only available very late in the game, and are not easily accessible.

    • @Blood_Ronin
      @Blood_Ronin  Год назад

      Oh for sure. Most of the other builds show it at 22 str. With tavern brawler and the double score, it just hits so hard.

    Another option I like running is instead of taking three more level in monk to instead go rogue/thief so you not only get cunning action (meaning you can save your ki using these instead of the monk’s versions) and expertise (making athletics even better) but you also get another bonus action passively. This means you can attack 4-7 times a turn (assuming if you have the special monk buff up from open hand). The only real negative I’ve seen from this is losing out on 3 ki but trading that, resonant fists, and some extra movement speed if fully worth an additional 1-2 attacks and utility. Granted sneak attack doesn’t work on fists but they work with bows which you’ll have if you ever find yourself at a distance.

DEX 10 is also not good. When respeccing at Level 9 you can go 16 Str and 15 Con and use your 2 Feats for Tavern Brawler and getting back to 18/16, thats frees up enough Points for Dex 13, using the Point from the Hag you have Dex 14 instead of 10 and a feat that only gives Initiative...

Since I had sheart go both alch wizard and guidance cleric I left her at camp for daily potion brewing, longstrider, aid and mage armor, when I come back for long rest. I have a dozen colossus potions still because guidance makes her medicine roll succeed almost every time, goes well with having a weapon set your strength to 19. Since all attacks are unarmed or throws and elixirs stay active until long rest, it doesn’t matter that the club is kinda ass. It’s a light club so it can be paired with another light weapon in the off hand without the dual wielding perk, or be wielded with a torch without unequipping it.

Your healer will give you perma blade ward anyway so barb with 2 dmg and no conc wasn't too attractive for me. I find that mega bless staff the best for early and then bare fist mid game once you go past 5 with lightning glove and passive and illithid debuffs. You get miles and miles of item options that'll let you rock one strong item concentration with high 20+ ac if you go str dex con early then 8 str dex con wis after you get any of str modification item (could go cloth mage armor/mirror image/stone skin if you prefer, up to you if you can manage the micro. I just barked through easier encounters with blade ward healer). For those rare encounter where mobility beyond your monk dash jump does kinda matter, just use speed pot, misty scroll, jump boost etc etc. Push to 5 for extra and all monk stuff but go monk 5 thief 3 for juicy 6 hits. Then dip into battle master for action reset and riposte. This was carrying majority of the game and in the final form, you get 4action attacks + 4 bonus hits + 3 lightning explosion per turn + however many illithid kill explosions you trigger + 23 str + 21 ac (can be higher but I prefer no crit) who stuns, prone, riposte + 2 debuffs on hit. If you insist on barb monk hybrid then I'd look into tiger bleed version for triple str dip or frenzy throw specialist to make full use of action/bonus economy with mobile throw equipment in the mix. My stance on 3 thief doesn't change though. 2 extra cc infused hits (or extra dash jump) gives unbelievable boost to open hand monk. And if you are looking for 1 turn boss kill challenge, then definitely duergar for free enlarge.

    I like taking 3 levels of Rogue for the Thief subclass and the Fast Hands passive which gives you 2 bonus actions letting you use Flurry of Blows twice per round, and 3 levels of Fighter for the Champion subclass and letting you crit on a 19 or 20. I usually also keep my strength fairly low, and use giant strength elixirs.

    • @mr.e822
      @mr.e822 Год назад

      If you are doing that, try making a strength monk instead! You can sacrifice mobility for armor and a shield, then pick up the tavern brawler feat. Now you have twice strength mod coming up on all of those unarmed strikes.

    • @Inshokuten69
      @Inshokuten69 Год назад

      @@mr.e822 I am a strength monk, I just use the elixir of hill giant strength and later the elixir of cloud giant strength. That way I can get my wis a bit higher because of the boots that give wis modifier to unarmed damage. In the end each hit gives twice the strength modifer and the wis modifier.
      I think at the end of my monk playthrough I was getting 6 attacks per round doing 1d8 +16(strength), +3(wis), +1d10(Gloves), and then manifestation from another 1d4+3. I started off with the bonus actions because if they did fall prone the advantage and larger crit range meant I crit probably 2 rounds in 3.
      Tbh I never really read wholeness of body giving another bonus action so I never used it other than to regen ki points, but if it stacks with fast hands could get 8 attacks a round.

      @chrisgee8441 Год назад

      @ZielonyBob since you can respec whenever it's really proficiency based and skill based. Early game barbarians are insane. You halve most damage while raging and get the most starting hp. Then immediately take monk and work for those 4 levels to get tavern brawler. It's up to you to let barb sit and start working on rogue. I'd recommend taking monk to 6 for multiattack at 5 and extra damage at 6 though. Those starting stats are great, and have Wis at 14 to pump that monk 6 damage. Your AC will be pretty bad with this build, but if you end up taking bear barbarian you'll treat your hp as if it was doubled (unless dealing with psychic damage).

    For my STR monk or Barbarian I like using Tavern Brawler and Athlete plus the Act 1 permanent bonus to get the ability score to 20. There is an elixer in Act 2, and a buff in act 3 that lets you boost that to 24. Hand to hand for Monk or throwing for the barb. That said, I am also fond of Dex builds for monks that take advantage of 2 handing versatile weapons and great weapon master.

    Important Note! Rage doesn't work with unarmed attacks. "deal 2 extra damage with melee and improvised weapons, and when throwing objects." It doesn't work with unarmed. It still can be great with tavern brawl if you are using improvised weapons and throwing, so it does still help. It's just not specifically boosting unarmed.

    From there I just try to punch all the time as much as possible with the empowered attacks. The damage is absolutely insane on single targets. You are also pretty mobile, i'm running it with wood elf, but if I did it again I would use gith for the jump racial spell
