    As long as John adds to this team. This team deserves the help, and more importantly, the fans deserve a great team. I hope we add some talent while there is some left.

  • @mike-vq8zw

    Since Peter was well aware that the end was coming for him, I'm sure this must be playing out according to his wishes. I would imagine he had spoken to everyone including his wife how he wanted the Padres set up for the future. Not spending wise, but who would be in charge and how it would be run. That's the benefit of knowing when you're end is coming. You have an opportunity to get all your ducks in a row to give you SOME peace of mind. I'm sure he didn't tell them anything like where he wanted the payroll to be exactly but more or less how he expected the Padres to continue to be relevant in baseball and in San Diego. I'm sure he spoke with all these people involved as to how he wanted the organization to go forward. We can only hope this means an influx of some more cash for payroll so the Padres won't be forced to get rid of players who aren't actually making the really big money but too much currently for the Padres. So hopefully the trades that are made and other acquisitions that are made aren't strictly due to finances. Hopefully they will be baseball trades and acquisitions that will benefit the Padres NOW.

      Did you read the article? John will continue with the cost cutting and lowered payroll for years to come. It’s the new operating model going forward. To be responsible owners. They are all the same and on the same page. Nothing is going up but the ticket and concession prices. Ben says give them grace and be thankful for the billion plus they spent on aging stars earlier this decade.

    • @mike-vq8zw
      @mike-vq8zw 5 часов назад

      @jdsthird if the Padres continue with what appears to any normal person as a partial tear down I think you can kiss those continuous sellouts goodbye. At this moment right now it appears the only players safe from being traded away are the ones who are actually CAUSING the financial problems on this team. For the life of me, I just don't understand the blind optimism that's being shown to this organization. They refuse to discuss ANYTHING that pertains to the direction of this ball club. What's the figure they are working with as far as payroll goes? I as a season ticket holder I would like to know, and I would imagine other season tickets holders also would like to know, and I think we have a right to know. The worst position any team can be in is sitting on the fence. They are half in and half out and that equals a 500 ball club. It looks like the next left fielder is going to have to be another Profar like player. Someone who will play for a million dollars on a one-year contract and in turn AJ hopes he gets a career year out of them. Putting a bench together is a difficult thing and it is especially difficult for AJ. Last season was the first time in 10 years he supplied the manager with capable players both on offense and defense, but now they are gone. By having a good year they instantly priced themselves out of any chance of being back in San Diego. Likewise, Profar playing over his head most of the season also probably eliminated any chance of him returning to San Diego due to finances. Apparently Dylan Cease must also leave America's finest city in spite of the fact his current salary is actually a deal compared to what others in his class are making. What will we get in return? Most likely a pitcher, either young which means a low salary or someone who would be considered another four or five starter. Most likely a five in the rotation of a desperate team. There is talk of trading the first baseman but this is a player who in the last 3 years has won three batting titles but won them on three different teams, WHY? Now he might be headed to his fourth team? I've even heard Jake's name has popped up now. It's not the money that's the problem it's the length of his contract so for someone to take on that lengthy contract you have to ask, how will we get screwed on this trade? More youth? We let a starting catcher get away for a little over 6 million a season, and it appears the Padres have given up on the relatively young catcher they led everyone to believe would be the next great catcher for the Padres. The problem is he's inconsistent, AND LAZY BEHIND THE PLATE. The contract with X has just handcuffed AJ with being able to make ANY kind of pure baseball trade. The starting pitching is one old guy, one middle-aged guy going through Tommy John surgery, then the only shining star left from the Soto trade, King, but he also needs to be extended or HE must be traded. The rest are all just fillers, mostly number four or five in their rotation of a 500 ball club. Padre fans need to wake up, be honest with this picture. I don't see how even the great AJ can fix this mess. One thing is for sure , unless they find a way, ANYWAY, to rid themselves of Xs contract this team is going to be scraping the barrel for players. They are in the worst position a team can be in, half in and half out. The only splash they have any hope of making this season is getting the Japanese pitcher and the only reason they are going hard at him, is his price. The idea that so many fans are relying on the great AJ to work his famous magic and come up with some miracle trades and miracle signings to keep this a contending team, when actually he is the one who helped create this mess in the first place. Fans actually need to think this through, and actually see what kind of position this organization has put themselves in.

    Padres are the only small market team with all these 100 and 300 million dollar contracts. We spent our billions earlier this decade. Now it’s let the fans pour in to see the stars on the books for the next 9 to 10 years and rake in profits from rising prices. It’s business 101. It is what it is. And they are telling us to suck it up and appreciate what was done years ago.

      @ Attendance won’t drop. You don’t understand. This is the only game in town. It’s like you said before fans will keep coming. The so called superstars were bought and paid for when they spent billions earlier in the decade. Greupner prepared us for this last year when he said be thankful for what we already have. Most fans are satisfied with these players giving us entertainment during the regular season. I see why you are so happy with things. It is what it is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He could hit, Hit for power and steal the base ANYTIME HE WANTED. TAKE SECOND AND THIRD WITH EASE. WHAT A GREAT SMILE HE HAD ALSO.
