Interesting that when Dave Roberts was asked about Roki being posted he said no comment. Mike said AJ learned some words in Japanese. I wonder if he is aware Dave Roberts was born in Japan and was there last week with Roki.
Japanese media reported that Dave Roberts was in Okinawa Prefecture with his family, while Sasaki Roki was doing his off-season training in Ofunato (in Iwate Prefecture) and already took a flight to the US to meet with various teams. Frankly, having a Japanese mother or being able to speak a few words in Japanese or not will have zero relevance for a Japanese pitcher choosing an MLB team. It was reported in Japan that one of the reasons why Ohtani chose the Angels was that their GM at the time built a good relationship with him.
@@yo2trader539 It has also been reported in Japan how frustrated Roki has been with his team and their lack of success in the postseason. He has pitched a perfect game as well as 8 perfect innings and his individual success has not translated to the success of the team. He is extremely competitive and wants to win at the highest level. He wanted to be posted last year when Yamamoto came but his team denied him. He pushed them and finally got them to relent this year. Roki’s comfort level with a team and organization as well as their history of development and winning are absolutely a factor in which team he will choose. Shildts confidence doesn't mean jack squad tbh he didnt say anything new about the situation. We knew all this stuff before and he repeating what we all know doesn't mean anything. I fully expect sasaki to sign with those damm doyers, and that will feel like the nail in the coffin for me, doyers have the better roster on paper and on the field given the fact that they won the world series... sasaki must want a real challenge if he decides to sign with us, that real challenge is beating the doyers and winning a world series.
With the way things are going right now with payroll and spending winning a WS in SD might be seen as impossible rather than a real challenge. We are not investing in the team. Roki is competitive and wants to win. He has 6 years as a rookie before he hits free agency. He’s going to get the biggest contract for a pitcher in history. We need him more than he needs us. He can do more for us than we can do for him. He also needs a 6 man rotation.
If the Pobres were making moves and trying to get better, I would give SD more credit given their confidence, but they’re basically banking on Sasaki being the only big move. I just can’t see them making any other major move, and their likelihood of retaining a competitive roster given the price of their future FA going higher, I just can’t imagine Sasaki wanting to go to SD, unless he gave them the word already and want to honor it. That's what a good GM and a good organization does. Tampa Bay spends no money but somehow finds a way in one of the toughest divisions to be more than competitive. I realize how impressed some people are over attempts like this but it just doesn't impress me. Build a team the way the Astros did, then you'll impress me. These attempts by trading away everyone in the farm system to try and win one time has grown old with me. If we do manage to get this guy my advice to Padre fans is, Don't get too close to him, he probably won't be here long.
Right. And his agent and advisers know this. Why would he want to be a rental? Why would he want to be traded and give SD that opportunity to trade him?Or if he becomes a FA, why would he want to change teams? Don’t all players, not named Soto, dream of playing for one team their entire career? Would Darvish be selfish enough to prevent Sasaki from going to a better destination to strengthen his own legacy in SD? If SD gets Sasaki, good for them, but it doesn’t make much sense for Sasaki to go there. There are better destinations outside SD than LA. Yankees are better than SD. Geography can’t be set in stone if he wants a legendary career.
SD hiring Park and Nomo in the FO is almost futile. They are former Dodgers that have only great things to say about LA. And it doesn’t help that Korea and Japan have historically been fans of the Dodgers.
I still think the Padres are going to take the wrong approach. They are going to try to convince him to be the enemy of Ohtani and Yamamoto. Which is basically like trying to convince him to be the enemy of Japan. His focus is on him personally being the best pitcher in the world he has no motivation to try and derail Ohtani and Yamamoto. Which is why I honestly believe if he doesn’t sign with the Dodgers it will likely be with a team in the AL that won’t be seen as a direct rival to the Dodgers. I can honestly see the Mariners or the Angels before I can see the Padres. Unless Roki has a deep hatred for Ohtani and Yamamoto. Which I dont think he does considering Yamamoto is his best friend in baseball
Very true. As someone who has traveled to Asia multiple times on extended trips and stats it amazes me how Americans assume cultures around the world work the same as here in our country. As Padres fans we assume foreigners “hate” other teams and their own countrymen simply because we do. I don’t hate Ohtani or Yamamoto or the Dodgers. What the have accomplished in baseball is admirable. We should be trying to emulate and learn from them and stop trashing them.
@@JackGeezy Please man what? Roki Sasaki has called Yu Darvish both a friend and mentor. Two compliments I don't recall him giving to any other friend or former WBC Teammate. Given their history, Roki (the rookie) and Yu (the veteran) would make a great pairing in San Diego's rotation.

In Japanese culture, it’s considered disrespectful, and, as a result, Sasaki has been subject to false _*_rumors_*_ and accusations._ _"'A lot of people jumped on board there, creating some false _*_rumors_*_ about him and his family,' Wolfe said. 'It was very detrimental to his mental state.'_ _"Because of that, Wolfe was asked if Sasaki would prefer smaller market teams versus big market ones._ _"'I think that there’s an argument to be made that a smaller, mid-market team _*_might be_*_ more beneficial for him as a soft landing coming from Japan, given what he’s been through and not having an enjoyable experience with the media. It _*_might be - I’m not saying it will be - I don’t know how he’s going to view it, but it might be_*_ beneficial for him to be in a smaller market. _*_I really don’t know how he looks at it yet because I haven’t had a chance to really sit down and discuss it with him in great detail.'"_* But I'd like to focus you all on what I highlighted in bold. _The Fansided_ jumped completely into the pool with hypotheticals, conjecture, and *_unsubstantiated reports._* Here's what _The Fansided also_ wrote about Sasaki's potential relocation to Los Angeles. _"The Dodgers, who have a longstanding relationship with Sasaki dating back to his high school playing days, immediately emerged as the favorites to land him. A completely _*_unsubstantiated rumor_*_ even said that Sasaki reached a handshake deal with LA last month, but the Dodgers being toward the top of his list would make sense - longstanding relationship, two Japanese superstars, World Series win."_ My question is, how are those two articles not engaging in the same behavior of promoting an "unsubstantiated rumor"? And I'm not refuting that Sasaki had issues with the Japanese media; I'm more referring to what his state of mind was and is now and what impact that *_may_* have on his decision-making today. _All_ of those things are *_"unsubstantiated,"_* or, in other words, *_"rumors."_* 😝 If this accounts for what "journalism" is in today's world, no wonder we're so confused as a nation.

You are making WAY too much sense. You will be scorned and bullied for having sound reason and using logic Mike.
@JumboJuneau that may be true but don't forget, AJ knows a few words in Japanese 😁
@jdsthird I'm used to that 😁
I still think the Padres are going to take the wrong approach.
You don’t know anything
you;re making this narrative up in your head. All these doomsayers in the comments might as well leave the sport. You're too scared
You said "honestly" so many time I know you're a liar.
@@GJLCreativeStudios What narrative have you made up in your head?
HOW CREATIVE CAN OUR PRECIOUS ORGANIZATION get....*(sips hot chocolate)
Roki Sasaki would make an excellent pairing with Yu Darvish to the Padres starting rotation.
I agree brother 🤝
darvish is getting old tho, maybe two years more , he's out of the mlb
@@Prizeee409 once he hits 41 he can save and not start. Guy has incredible endurance , might lose his fastball,
And not with Shohei and Yoshi? Please man 😂😂😂
@@JackGeezy Please man what? Roki Sasaki has called Yu Darvish both a friend and mentor. Two compliments I don't recall him giving to any other friend or former WBC Teammate. Given their history, Roki (the rookie) and Yu (the veteran) would make a great pairing in San Diego's rotation.
Whatever helps y'all sleep at night 😂💙🏆
Fun fact: Darvish has been to a World Series...
as a DODGER 😂😂😂 let that sink in lol
Obvious fact
Now tell the end of that story you Fraud. Talk about how Yu was robbed in the World Series and how you assclowns of a fanbase didn't stick by him and let him walk...even going as far as calling him Yu Garbage. Stop with the nonsense stupid, your stupid fanbase disowned Yu that's why he came to SD and continues to own you Frauds. Now let that sink in.
Did you even bother to watch Ben's video before you posted your "Fun fact"? He already said that.
Just to correct you, Ben. Preller did learn Japanese years ago in order to recruit Darvish. He worked for the Rangers and ended up getting Darvish to come to Texas.
@@johnnypalooka ok well that may be true but I think Shildt was referring to Ohtani and mixed up who he was referring to
And the the Rangers lost Darvish to the Dodgers. After a stay with the Cubs.
Agree to disagree. Shildt isn't stupid. He hears Preller talk Japanese with Darvish all the time. No matter.
@ I didn’t know Mike Shildt spoke Japanese too. Cool 😎
Alright, leave it up to ol' man jds III to bring the snark! I hope you're on board with the Padres this season or is it gonna be a whole new year of Preller bashin' to come? This man loves some Tingler talk.
Padres keeps talking about being the face what if he doesn't even want to be the face. He will have so much pressure in SD. With LA theirs no pressure and would benefit his career for long.

According to _Fansided,_ the author wrote, _"Wolfe specifically talked about Sasaki's relationship with the Japanese media, which has been adversarial over the past few years, especially after Sasaki reportedly left the Japanese players union and his performance declined a bit in 2024. The Dodgers are now inarguably the most popular MLB team in Japan, _*_but that might not be_*_ a plus for them if Sasaki is looking to get out from under the eyes of Japanese media a bit."_
_Fansided_ piggybacked off what _The New York Times/The Athletic_ reported below.
_"Wolfe noted that Sasaki has had a hard time with the media in Japan over his desire to leave NPB for MLB at such a young age. In Japanese culture, it’s considered disrespectful, and, as a result, Sasaki has been subject to false _*_rumors_*_ and accusations._
_"'A lot of people jumped on board there, creating some false _*_rumors_*_ about him and his family,' Wolfe said. 'It was very detrimental to his mental state.'_
_"Because of that, Wolfe was asked if Sasaki would prefer smaller market teams versus big market ones._
_"'I think that there’s an argument to be made that a smaller, mid-market team _*_might be_*_ more beneficial for him as a soft landing coming from Japan, given what he’s been through and not having an enjoyable experience with the media. It _*_might be - I’m not saying it will be - I don’t know how he’s going to view it, but it might be_*_ beneficial for him to be in a smaller market. _*_I really don’t know how he looks at it yet because I haven’t had a chance to really sit down and discuss it with him in great detail.'"_*
But I'd like to focus you all on what I highlighted in bold. _The Fansided_ jumped completely into the pool with hypotheticals, conjecture, and *_unsubstantiated reports._*
Here's what _The Fansided also_ wrote about Sasaki's potential relocation to Los Angeles.
_"The Dodgers, who have a longstanding relationship with Sasaki dating back to his high school playing days, immediately emerged as the favorites to land him. A completely _*_unsubstantiated rumor_*_ even said that Sasaki reached a handshake deal with LA last month, but the Dodgers being toward the top of his list would make sense - longstanding relationship, two Japanese superstars, World Series win."_
My question is, how are those two articles not engaging in the same behavior of promoting an "unsubstantiated rumor"? And I'm not refuting that Sasaki had issues with the Japanese media; I'm more referring to what his state of mind was and is now and what impact that *_may_* have on his decision-making today.
_All_ of those things are *_"unsubstantiated,"_* or, in other words, *_"rumors."_* 😝
If this accounts for what "journalism" is in today's world, no wonder we're so confused as a nation.
You love to hear yourself talk
Question....Why does everyone assume that EVERYONE with talent wants to be the "Face" of a franchise?? Thats more of a Western Culture way of thinking.
Well, if Rokii wants to win, stay away from San Diego .
Yet we don't win but YOU stay ON OUR page.... He should follow your footsteps
@huskydawolf187 All im my saying they couldn't win with a lineup that consisted of tatis, machado, soto, and Josh Hader.. besides that, Bogey contract is awful .. Padres window has officially closed.
@comala27 you're not wrong. But is it closed ??? Were coming off a 93 win season and we made NLDS with a first season manager. And lost to the world series champs 🤔🤔
We should let You make the case to Sasaki lol because you got the assignment fr fr
I wouldn't rule out the Cubs either. In fact I wouldn't be mad if he chose them, as long as he ain't a Dodger
I wouldn’t mind if Sasaki went to Cubs either if not the Dodgers. The Cubs are never going to compete with the Mets or the Dodgers, or even the Phillies and Atlanta.
@@xXIronSwanXx I really want to see Roki compete in the WS. It would be a waste for him to be like Ohtani and waste all those rookie years on a team that isn’t competing. I love baseball and seeing great games. I’m a fan of baseball as well the Padres. I want to see great games.
@@jdsthird Cubs can low key be a WS contender, you never know 😉
@ Low key. They can at least tell and show Roki they have won a championship in the past 10 years. There’s that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ 😂 good one
Lol have you never watched The Last Samurai. Tom cruise thought they liked him in beginning but really just being hospitable and disliked him.
Roki is not gonna say , oh ya no thanks. But he will be nice about it. He’s still heading to LA.
Anywhere but LA or SF. Hoping the Padres but if not go to the Yankees or AL
He’s gunna be a dodger so easy to see… keep crying little madres fan… SD taking a huge step back next year… will be loosing a lot of players because of that horrible contract yall gave to xander
HELL NO he will be a Dodger
I see the Padres fans discussing about getting something in a very desperate way by selling Cease. That is the reality. That is how poor your team is at the moment. Why would Sasaki come to this organization knowing that you guys will keep reducing the team's payroll.
Sounds like were becoming the same ol cheap padres again

@@GJLCreativeStudios but we don't have money what's the narrative ??
Dodgers will have a dynasty which means he will not win a championship in San Diego.. and no, the Dodgers kept the most international money available in case Roki was posted!! And don’t forget to look at his home country, they are predominantly Dodgers fans. Being a dodgers fan will make him a rockstar in Japan
Lol goes to the padres, realize darvish is retiring. Figured out the hard way be used as a work horse. Get injure. Then gets traded like they did to soto.
Might as wel go to La while yamamoto and ohtani in their primes. Win championships before he gets a real contract.
