    Diese Aufnahme ist musikalisch und technisch die beste, die jemals in der Musikgeschichte gemacht wurde. Jede Note wird nicht gespielt, sondern im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes gesungen. Der Paukist zu Beginn des dritten Satzes lässt mir jedes Mal durch den zeitlichen Abstand zwischen jedem Schlag mit dem Schlegel eine Gänsehaut vom Kopf bis zu den Füßen entstehen. Und alles, was danach kommt, kann man nur im Himmel hören: das Tempo, die verschiedenen Stimmen der Instrumente im Raum und das gemeinsame Singen des ganzen Orchesters... Alles und jedes in dieser Aufnahme ist absolut einzigartig und so genial wiedergegeben, wie man es noch nie gehört hat.

    Manfred Honeck is one of the greatest living conductors...NDR Elbphilharmonie is one of the worlds greatest orchestras.....Together they take a journey through this symphony where no one has gone before! Phenomenal!!!!!!

    Abgesehen von der absolut einzigartigen Aufführung und Interpretation dieser Symphonie ist auch die Aufnahmetechnik die beste, die je gemacht wurde, dank der Klarheit, der Präsenz des Klanges aller Instrumente und der Vielfalt der Farben.

      Das ist kein Kompliment, sondern eine Feststellung. Ich wünsche mir, dass alle, die an dieser Aufnahme von Mahlers Erster Symphonie beteiligt sind, einschließlich des oder der Tonmeister dieser Aufnahme, wenn möglich das gesamte symphonische Repertoire von Bach bis Bartok mit der Klarheit, der Präsenz des Klanges aller Instrumente und der Vielfalt der Farben dieser Aufnahme aufnehmen. Ich habe nur einen kleinen Mangel zu erwähnen, nämlich dass der Kontrabass zu Beginn des dritten Satzes mit einem diskret unterstützenden Stereomikrofon, das nach dem Solopart ausgeschaltet wurde, präsenter geklungen hätte.

    Das ist die genialste Interpretation der ersten Symphonie von Gustav Mahler, die ich je gehört habe. Der dritte und vierte Satz sind eine Verherrlichung des jüdischen Volkes mit dem, was die Juden ein halbes Jahrhundert nach der Komposition dieser Symphonie bis heute erleiden müssen, mit dem endgültigen Sieg von Frieden, Gerechtigkeit und Menschlichkeit über Unterdrückung und Vernichtungskräfte nach mehr als 2000 Jahren. Jeder einzelne Musiker des Orchesters ist absolut einzigartig im musikalischen Ausdruck jeder gespielten Note. Auch beim zweiten Hören dieser Aufnahme lässt mir der dritte Satz mit seiner jüdischen Klesmermusik den Atem stocken und die Tränen in Strömen fließen. Ich kann nur wiederholen, was @libelle176 vor zwei Jahren so treffend geschrieben hat:Manfred Honeck is one of the greatest living conductors...NDR Elbphilharmonie is one of the worlds greatest orchestras.....Together they take a journey through this symphony where no one has gone before!     Thank you Mahler and Thank you NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, for not leaving this masterpiece by the wayside, which Mahler had to face many critiques which forced him to rework the composition, but his sacrifice was worth a lot, because hearing this work in 2021 is a blessing to our ears, in a world of so many challenges and trials.

    Wunderschöne und detaillierte Aufführung dieser spätromantischen und perfekt komponierten Sinfonie mit seidigen Tönen aller Streicher, milden Tönen aller Holzbläser und vor allem brillanten Tönen aller Blechbläser. Der zweite Satz klingt echt lebhaft und auch melodisch. Der intelligente und geniale Dirigent leitet das ausgeziechnete Orchester im relativ langsamen Tempo und mit möglichst effektiver Dynamik. Einfach wundervoll!

    Grandiose Interpretation dieser metallischen Sinfonie mit perfekt entsprechenden Tönen aller Instrumente. Der geniale Maestro leitet das routinierte Orchester im veränderlichen Tempo mit perfekt analysierter Agogik. Alles ist wunderbar!

    I really love Maestro Honeck's interpretation of this Gorgeous symphony. Everytime those cellos kick in 4:47, I get goosebumps! That's why Gustav Mahler is my favorite composer of all the time! ❤

    Absolutely modern sounds of Mahler 1! Such balanced, such clarities, such melodic, multiplicative progress, and such harmonic!!! NDR produced absolute sound! After this performance, other orchestras may hesitate to play Mahler 1.

    Sensationelle Performance vom Elphi Orchester unter Manfred Honeck! Sensationelle Aufnahme! Es ist wohl von Vorteil, wenn auch die Bild-Regie die Partitur lesen kann .. 😉
    Danke, dass man das Konzert hier noch x-mal nacherleben kann. Es war bereits ein Genuss, das Konzert live zu erleben. Ich freue mich schon jetzt die Aufzeichnung von Mahlers 3. vor wieder vollem Haus .. 😉

    Richtig schönes Konzert. Bravo dafür. Schade fand ich (Ri Bildregie) das im 4ten Satz der Einsatz der Hörner nicht gezeigt worden ist sondern nur in stehendem Zustand. Aber vielleicht beim nächsten Mal 😅

    Mahler in my own estimation never composed at a higher level than his S-1. Just my opinion.

      We are so sorry! Seems, the algorithm during the export got overwhelmed by Mahler 1 and thus we received this compression. We'll find a workaround - and then will get back with another upload.

      ​@@NDRKlassik & @Fafner888 please do not throw out the compression out completely, just check with the sound engineers what level should be applied and where. Because live real time concert experience is not the same as listening to the music recordings. In recordings compression is simply a must since audio electronic equipment we have cannot replicate acoustic qualities of a good symphony hall where every sound can be heard from any position without losing its tonal quality (dynamic level included). RUclips videos are mostly impossible to listen in a random row because they have chaotic individually set volume levels coupled with various levels of compression.

      @@gorankatic40000bc I know all of that, but it doesn't mean that dynamic compression, though necessary as you said, can't leave some room for contrasts between loud and soft without making it too excessive. For example the Frankfurt Radio Symphony upload their live concerts on RUclips with a very good dynamic range, not to mention commercial CDs. On this upload (in spite of having an excellent audio quality otherwise) the dynamic range is like on old cable tv broadcast which is not suitable for today's classical streaming standards.

    I wonder why Gustav Mahler did not incorporate Wagner tubas in place of the standard Horns in F during the climax of the Finale? They would have projected better and the need for the one trumpet and one trombone to support the seven horns would have not been necessary.

    I'm a bit baffled. I thought it had been established that the subtitle "Titan" only applies to the original, five movement version of this work - which Mahler revised and called "Symphony No.1" in all subsequent performances and published editions. 🤔
