In this video, I'm sharing my advice on how to get into publishing. I've worked in publishing for a while and I know that getting into the publishing industry can be difficult. There's a lot of competition and it can be difficult to know how to create a compelling application. So I've shared some tips and insights that can help you land your first publishing job!

Thank you for this! I am wanting to get into the editorial aspect of publishing. I've worked for Disney for over 10 years, so children's stories hold a huge and special place in my heart! I'm hoping that when the time comes it'll be a standout fact when I'm applying to jobs!

Wow! Just when I thought I was having doubts regarding my career choices but then I came across this video. I'm Indian and a law student (IPR Honors) though I'm in my final year of uni I'm thinking to dive into publishing as I'm a writer and written tons of fiction in my spare time. I'm thinking to go for masters in publishing in the UK only because I'm a foreign national just like you said. I really hope I'm making the right decision 😣

One question about the cover letters: Is it supposed to be a unique cover letter per application or do you keep general info for all the applications and adapt it to a specific application? What would be the idea behind writing a good cover letter?
Thanks for watching and great question! Yes, you should always tailor your cover letter to each position you are applying for. I wrote some tips on my website (title is 'How to Write a Great Cover Letter').

Thank you so much! This is really helpful! I have only just begun looking and applying and am worried that it is going to take me a long time to land a job, especially in the current climate! I have found that there are not too many jobs advertised for publishing at the moment - is this normal or is this just because of the ongoing pandemic?

hey i have an urgent question because i’m deciding whether or not i should defer fall classes...... i’m looking for advice from anyone in the industry on this: is it looked down upon to take 2 internships at once/ not a good look? i would be transparent with both companies but i’m worried to even ask

Hi, Ain! I'm from Brazil and my biggest dream is to work in a publishing house outside of my country. I'm graduating next year and I've started to think what exactly do I need to study to get a job in the market. Did you study something specific that you knew would help you or is there maybe a course I could take?
Hi Ana, it really depends on individual circumstances to be honest. I did an MA in Publishing & it helped me, but it's not necessary to enter the industry in the UK. Have a look at my website www.ainsnotes.com, there's lots of info on the industry 😊
