It should be made clear that the terms *"Haradrim" and "easterlings" are what we'd call; "catch-all-terms".* Meaning not all Easterlings (anyone from east of the realms of "the west") or Haradrim (literally means; those "south of", the Gondorians) served the dark lord, *some were even openly against him* and his followers because both regions are just that, regions as in *there is no single kingdom of Haradrim or single realm of Easterlings, there are literally hundreds if not thousands of unnamed peoples and tribes* that make up the cultures (plural) of those lands. *Simple put some Southrons (harad) and kingdoms (or chiefdoms) of the East followed Sauron...some did not.* But sadly like the orcs we only know (and not that much) about the "groups" (does not represent all) that have been actively hostile to the free peoples of the West. @Admire Kashiri Baranor does indeed hale from the lands of Harad, but remember there's no such thing as a single "Haradrim" culture or tribe. We don't know what Baranor's people were called, what tribe or culture they came from, what they would've referred to themselves as because they were slaughtered by ruthless mercenaries when he was still just a young boy and spent most of his life being raised Gondorian by a Gondorian family, a well of one I might add too. Baranor may come from one of the (I'm sure of) many ethnicities found in the lands south of Gondor proper or what is called "Harad" by the Gondorians in their tongue but he probably considers himself Gondorian through and through and many of his peers would agree.

In the Silmarillion, Tolkien talks about Bòr and his sons who fought for the Noldor and the other Edaìn against Morgoth. And in the tales of the elves they are always remembered as friends of the Elves. 2) The reason why all Southern populations are described as dark skinned, it's only for evolutive and geographic reasons. 3) Tolkien was not racist, Tolkien letters can help you with that.
The Haradrim men were not even evil. They were enemies of Numenorian men and their descendants people of Gondor. That's why they joined Sauron, Saruman and Orcs. Mankind had issues in middle earth before the war of the ring. Haradrim and Duneland men were treated bad by Gondor and Rohan men. Sauron, Saruman and their Orcs took advantage of the wars between humans. Elessar (Aragorn) made peace among human races after Sauron was defeated.

No wonder he portrayed dark skinned groups from the East and South of Middle Earth as evil and barbaric. It reflected early 20th century European ignorance, bias and racism when it comes to “foreign” cultures and especially the Muslim people who basically ruled the East during the Middle Ages up until the first world war (Ottomans).
The Witch King was very likely a Black Numenorean King/Lord. As were 2 of the other Nazgul, so my guess is they probably had a few more low ranking Black Numenoreans/descendants around as well.
The Gondor people descend of Numenorian men and Numenorian conquered Haradrim men's country and made them pay tribute (colonization). That's why they fought with Sauron and Orcs against Rohan and Gondor as revenge. A bit similiar to dunland men who hated Rohan people and fought for Saruman and Orcs. Later King Elessar (Aragorn) made peace with Haradrim men.
That’s true but it was the King’s Men division of Númenoreans(ancestors of the Corsairs BTW) who were on board with the whole “enslavement and human sacrifice” thing. Gondor people were descended from the Faithful division.
@@jeffreygao3956, in my opinion Gondor and Rohan people should have made peace with Haradrim men and Duneland men much earlier. These people then wouldn't have to join Sauron, Saruman and Orcs to free their race. Instead they would have helped their fellow humans from Gondor and Rohan , Elves and Dwarwes against Sauron. Sauron and Orcs took advantage of inner human conflicts.
They could have easily used these characters in the amazon show if they wanted more racial diversity but I guess race-swapping dwarves, elves and hobbits is more appropriate........Just more insulting tokenism and mockery to actual black people who like fantasy.
@@Xo-3130 oh yes, so true. But that would have required actual writing talent, appreciation for Tolkien's work, and then giving a damn. They lacked all three and it ended in failure(a billion dollar failure)
I always felt like Tolkien didn't pay attention to the Haradrim because they were black and of the South. I never understood why the the blue wizards didn't prevent them from joining Sauron but hey maybe one day we'll know.
acrylup There's more known about the Haradrim than the Variags, the Eastern Dwarves, or even the river men of the Enedwaith regions, etc.. No need to hint at Tolkien being a racist unless you have no idea what you're talking about.
forests burning I'm not hinting it. A lot of people are hinting it and with proof. The fact that the more black you are the more bad you are quite some proof. And no need to argue, I deeply love Tolkien's works, it has changed my life but I won't be the one to say his works are perfect. They're not, nothing is, so yeah you'll always find things you don't appreciate in a book.
And I said I thought he didn't care about them not that he didn't care. But this video showed that they have a story and interaction with Numenor. I was saying that I was wrong to think that way
@@tyronechillifoot5573 I don't really agree with u, their clothes when going to battle looks a lot like the Arabs (their weapons their armor), and they "as always" mixed between the Arabs and the Indian, as the made them have elephants (this is done many times in the western movies, they always mix the history between Arabs and Indians which is not historically accurate).
@@tyronechillifoot5573 *Tom Shippey:* "The mention in ‘The Battle of the Pelennor Fields’ of ‘black men like half-trolls’ certainly sounds racist. I think I would say here that Tolkien at this point is trying to write like a medieval chronicler, and when medieval Europeans first encountered sub-Saharan Africans, they were genuinely confused about them, and rather frightened. As Tolkien pointed out in his early scholarly works, the ancient English seemed to have a belief in fire-demons, who naturally enough had skin like soot - their word for them, ‘harwan’, is related to Latin ‘carbo’, ‘soot,’ or carbon. An Anglo-Saxon meeting an African for the first time might then really wonder (for a moment, from a distance) whether this was a demon from his own mythology. This doesn’t mean that Tolkien shared the mythology, or the mistake." *Correct, Tyrone - well at least from Shippey, though Tolkien and his son Christopher support these points - especially the notes Christopher posted in 'The History of The Lord of the Rings ' ~*
Because most Europeans blindly hate Islam and all of its adherents. They are racist and ignorant bigots who are unwilling to accept the fact that the various but equally horrible narratives they have been fed for so long concerning the Muslim peoples around the world are entirely wrong.

Please make more GoT vids

Good to know
Hello (=
First!
They could have easily used these characters in the amazon show if they wanted more racial diversity but I guess race-swapping dwarves, elves and hobbits is more appropriate........Just more insulting tokenism and mockery to actual black people who like fantasy.
To be honest they would have a lot of room to do whatever with their culture and even throw in an anti-imperialism message.
I was saying that I was wrong to think that way
acrylup
Glad we agree that you're wrong.

so they made Arabs in lord of the rings? cool!
wait a min... they made them the evil guys?
actually they aren't meant to Arabs more so Saharan African tribes
@@tyronechillifoot5573 I don't really agree with u, their clothes when going to battle looks a lot like the Arabs (their weapons their armor), and they "as always" mixed between the Arabs and the Indian, as the made them have elephants (this is done many times in the western movies, they always mix the history between Arabs and Indians which is not historically accurate).
@@tyronechillifoot5573 nope there is no Sub Saharan Africans.
This doesn’t mean that Tolkien shared the mythology, or the mistake." *Correct, Tyrone - well at least from Shippey, though Tolkien and his son Christopher support these points - especially the notes Christopher posted in 'The History of The Lord of the Rings

Their only the bad guy because they got colonized.
WE WUZ HARADZ AND SHEEIT
Quite literally yes.
Funny thing though.
By Tolkien's own lore Numenor turning colonizer is portrayed as a bad thing.
Why is the once who look like muslims, the bad guys
That Ork because they are corrupt people.
...More like those were the times. We're still being projected that image today.
You mean the ones who look muslim... but black furthermore lol
Peter Sivert it was shown In his letters that the majority of Haradrim were against sauron
Because most Europeans blindly hate Islam and all of its adherents. They are racist and ignorant bigots who are unwilling to accept the fact that the various but equally horrible narratives they have been fed for so long concerning the Muslim peoples around the world are entirely wrong.
