  • This is a common and simple chord vamp that will make you the singer/songwriter’s best friend. A combined strumming and picking pattern for the chords G - D - Em - C.
We will develop open postion chords, strumming, alternate Picking, right hand and harmony. It works well for both mandolin and octave mandolin, and I demonstrate that in this video.

Magnus, this is very helpful, especially demonstrated on the OM, since that is what I play. :) No complaints---I always take good things away from our mandolin videos, and information tailor-made for OMs is almost as rare as hen's teeth. Your English is virtually impeccable, but I thought you might like to know that we will receive noticES in our e-mail. To be noticED means that people are starting to pay particular attention to one. For instance, if a musician is "getting noticed," that would mean that word is getting around about his or her playing, and more people are starting to show up at his or her concerts. The tales I could tell you of the perfectly logical things I said while living in France that did not translate as i had intended! Many of us are so blessed by the fact that you are willing to make videos in English.

Thanks Margaret! Very appreciated, noticES it is! I will put it that way in the future. However I've got videos in the pipeline with the old version (noticed) so you have to live with it for a couple of months or so. :-)

Magnus, Thanks so much! I get a lot out of your Mandolin lessons for my OM playing. I can understand how having a lone OM player constantly asking if what you are doing applies to her instrument in your Mandolin Secrets course, and I have no complaints, but it is kind of a relief to hear something applied to OM by someone whose expertise I respect. :) Thanks again. Oh, also, your English is virtually impeccable, however in English, one "Gets (as in receives) noticES" of upcoming videos--- To "Get noticED," is to have have people suddenly paying attention to what one is doing. If, for instance, a musician is "Getting noticed," it means that people are putting the word out about his or her performing, and more people are starting to come to her his or her concerts. The same person, however, might "Get notices" of upcoming events in his e-mail or mailbox. Thanks again for all you do. I have yet to watch one of your videos without taking something good away from it.

What is the picking pattern? How do you know which strings to pick?

    • @MandolinSecrets

John, it's always Down-Up-Down-Up and to know what strings to pick, I suggest you have a look in the Tabs.
