    The last line is very significant. "We could not have done this without you." A murderer can't become a celebrity without the cooperation and complicity of the audience.

      Yes, I find Roxie's comment Chilling all the time I hear it.
      All the murders, All the fame Around Murderers and the glamour in the courtroom. It sells, the people are enthousiastic for it.
      We could not have done it without you.

      That's very true. The songs in this movie are great but if you really pay attention to the story Roxy should be in jail, she committed murder and got away with it. I think that SJW weren't all that active when this movie was made.

    • @threesisterstrilable
      @threesisterstrilable 7 лет назад +257

      I'm pretty sure everybody gets that Roxie is not a good person, that's the point of the musical right? It doesn't make someone an SJW because they didn't explain the main theme of the story to other people.

      i think that's the tragic part of the musical.. Roxie and Velma got away with their murders with a manipulative lawyer who knows how to glamor their murder stories. The Hungarian girl who was in the cell with them was innocent but was executed due to a crime she did not do. It just shows how cruel life can be.

    • @trinelangohr6661

      Roxie: Forget it. It'll never work

      The moral of the story I think is that fame burns out the moment there's someone new. Velma was the hot thing until rosy came, and then the same thing happened to rosy with Lucy liu's character. Especially how after she was announced innocent, no one cared because some new scarlet shot someone.

    i remember hearing on the directors commentary that they added that rumble at the end of the movie to remind the audience that behind the glitz and glamour the story was actually a tragedy; two killers got away with murder. if the victims had been children this would have been more apparent, but because they were filandering men, its perfectly acceptable.

      B Taylor Velma Kelly is the experienced singer-dancer in the show and Roxie is the amateur with almost no experience who wants to go into show business, so it wouldn't have fit if Roxie was as good a singer-dancer. Remember when Velma tells her after an audition that she's really not bad? Velma is the experienced one the whole way and Roxie is trying to get work based on her notoriety.

    I find Catherine's last line amazing. It was so fierce, it looked like Velma was Queen of the world and she was simply thanking her people. Catherine was so in character that she probably did it unconsciously, but it turned out so good! If you look at the way Catherine said "Thank You!" and notice her facial expression and movements, you'll see why it was so appropriate for Velma Kelly to say it like that. I think it was Catherine's best line.

    There are things I do not understand, one is why people who do not like musicals are going to watch musicals? Just to say that Chicago did not deserve the Oscar? I agree with the choice of academia. The Pianist is great but movies similar it come out almost every year. Chicago was new to the cinema because he could mix the atmosphere of classical musical and update them has succeeded respect for this genre again (along with Moulin Rouge!)

    I understand a lot of people prefer Catherine’s performance over Renee’s obviously because Catherine is a profession singer and dancer who has had a lot of experience in comparison to Renee. However even within their characters, of course Velma is going to look a lot more professional as this was her job, whereas Roxy always dreamt of this. Thus she is going to have fun with it and look a little less professional
