Dear Benedict i wanted to share my experience in case you dont get an answer. I, too, experienced deep sense of fear and pain in the chest multiple times now. In my case i think it is triggered by stress but hints to a deep basic fear that could be resolved by contemplation/meditation/inquiry and i see the symptoms as an invitation to this. But i also went to get my heart checked at the doc. That would also be my advice. With the knowledge of physical health i am sure it will be much easier to face fear as just fear All the best from germany
Also, if you are not talking about fear, but just a beating heart. 3 times now i experienced this also in meditation for different reasons, but the feeling was always like falling in love and dissolving into "the beloved". This was the most impressive positive feeling but my heart started beating fast and so i started to think maybe it is best to open my eyes and stop the process and so i did not go further into the experience. But again, that is also because of fear, i guess!
